Boston Logan Car Rental Introduce
For anyone flying into Massachusetts, whether for business in the Financial District, a weekend getaway to the Berkshires, or to visit family in the suburbs, securing transportation is the first critical step. The Boston Logan Car Rental facility, a massive, consolidated hub officially known as the Rental Car Center (ConRAC), serves as the singular location for nearly all major car rental agencies at Logan International Airport (BOS). This centralized approach, located off Tomahawk Drive in East Boston, was designed by Massport to improve efficiency, reduce traffic congestion around the terminals, and offer travelers a streamlined way to pick up and drop off vehicles.
This facility is not a single company, but a four-level, modern structure housing multiple car rental agencies, including industry giants like Avis, Budget, Enterprise, National, Alamo, Hertz, Dollar, and Thrifty. The goal is to provide a competitive marketplace with a vast inventory of vehicles in one place. While the concept of a consolidated facility is intended to simplify the process, local users and frequent flyers note that high demand, especially during peak travel times, can lead to operational challenges, sometimes resulting in long queues and hurried service, as detailed in recent customer feedback.
Despite potential operational pressures, the existence of this single hub simplifies navigating a typically sprawling airport environment. Instead of waiting for multiple individual company shuttles, all passengers now take a single, unified Massport courtesy shuttle bus from the terminal baggage claim areas directly to this one center. This system is ultimately designed to save time and provide clarity when arriving at one of New England's busiest transportation hubs. The facility itself features modern construction, shared maintenance areas (known as Quick Turnaround Areas or QTAs), and a vast parking structure capable of storing and servicing thousands of vehicles.
The Boston Logan Car Rental Facility is not attached to the passenger terminals but is located on airport property in East Boston, offering a dedicated space away from the main terminal curb traffic. Its specific address is key for anyone using a rideshare service, personal drop-off, or GPS navigation.
- Physical Address: The primary address associated with the general area and the largest car rental operations is 214-220 Tomahawk Dr, Boston, MA 02128, USA. Other related addresses for various company returns are also in this immediate vicinity, such as 15 Transportation Way and 100 Tomahawk Drive. Customers should always use "Rental Car Center" or follow the airport signage.
- Access from Terminals: Access is exclusively via the consolidated, dedicated shuttle bus service provided by Massport. Passengers should collect their luggage and proceed to the designated Rental Car Center Bus Stop area outside each terminal's baggage claim on the lower level. These large, high-capacity hybrid buses are designed for frequent service to and from the terminals and the MBTA Blue Line station.
- Physical Accessibility: The facility is fully compliant with modern standards for universal access. It features a wheelchair accessible entrance to the customer service center and includes ample wheelchair accessible parking lots, ensuring that all travelers, regardless of mobility requirements, can utilize the services.
As a consolidated facility housing numerous car rental agencies, the services offered are collectively vast, covering every possible transportation need for an arriving Massachusetts traveler.
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: The combined inventory is extensive, providing vehicles for all travel purposes across New England. The available options typically include:
- Economy and Compact Cars for urban travel and cost savings.
- Standard, Full-Size, and Intermediate Sedans for general business or family touring.
- SUVs (Small to Premium) and 4x4 vehicles, ideal for the New England weather and exploring regional parks or ski resorts.
- Minivans and Passenger Vans (up to 12- and 15-passenger capacities) for large group transport, often essential for college groups or family reunions.
- Luxury and Exotic vehicles for an upscale experience in Boston or a special occasion.
- Extended and 24/7 Operations: The entire facility operates with extended hours, and most of the major rental counters (including Avis, Budget, Hertz, and National) are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, accommodating the schedules of late-night or early-morning flights into BOS.
- Pre-Check and Expedited Services: Most agencies offer programs (like Avis Preferred, Budget Fastbreak, Hertz Gold, and National Emerald Club) that allow pre-registered members to bypass the main counter entirely and proceed directly to their designated parking area in the garage, offering a crucial time-saving benefit given the potential for long lines.
- Flexible Payment Options: The various companies within the center accept a comprehensive array of payment forms, including all major Credit cards, Debit cards (note that specific documentation/deposit requirements apply when using a debit card, and policies can be restrictive), and the convenient NFC mobile payments (e.g., Apple Pay).
The true features of this car rental location are its infrastructure and the time-saving amenities offered by the various companies operating within it.
- Consolidated Model (ConRAC): The single building design eliminates the confusion of multiple rental car kiosks and remote lots. A traveler only needs to remember one location for both pickup and return.
- Unified Airport Shuttle: The single bus system for all rental customers is more efficient and simplifies the airport arrival experience, reducing the number of individual company vans cluttering the terminal curbside.
- Self-Service Technology: Several companies within the ConRAC offer self-service kiosks and mobile app check-in options, which, when functioning correctly, can drastically reduce the time spent waiting at the counter.
- All-Weather Protection: Housing the entire operation in a multi-level garage means customers pick up and drop off their vehicles indoors, a significant benefit during New England's harsh winter weather or summer rainstorms.
- Proximity to Major Roadways: Situated near the airport's elevated roadway system, the facility provides quick access to I-90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) and Route 1A, enabling a fast exit from the airport to destinations in Downtown Boston, the North Shore, or points west.
Since the facility houses many separate brands, there is no single public phone number for the entire center. However, the address is the key unifying detail for location services. Travelers are strongly advised to contact their specific rental company's customer service or reservation line if they have questions about their booking.
- General Address of the Facility: 214-220 Tomahawk Dr, Boston, MA 02128, USA
- Type: Car rental agency (Consolidated Facility for Multiple Brands)
- Primary Contact: Use the reservation or customer service number provided by your specific rental company (e.g., Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz) for direct booking inquiries.
The Boston Logan Car Rental Center is worth choosing primarily for its unparalleled convenience when flying into or out of BOS. As the sole on-airport location, it is the most efficient choice for travelers needing a rental car immediately upon arrival. The 24/7 operations offered by several major brands mean no matter when your flight lands, you can pick up your vehicle. The unified bus system, while sometimes crowded, is a predictable and reliable means of transport from the terminals. Furthermore, the sheer volume of companies and vehicles ensures maximum availability, even during the busiest travel seasons like fall foliage and summer vacation peaks.
However, potential renters in Massachusetts should manage their expectations regarding the customer service experience at such a high-volume airport location. As noted in customer feedback, the speed of service can sometimes overshadow the quality, with long lines being a distinct possibility, and staff potentially being rushed or fatigued. To maximize a positive experience, travelers should take proactive steps:
- Join a Loyalty Program: Using an expedited service like Avis Preferred or Hertz Gold is the single best way to bypass the notoriously long counter lines.
- Document Everything: Upon vehicle pick-up, thoroughly inspect the car and document existing damages via photos or video, and ensure any issues are acknowledged by an attendant at the exit booth to protect yourself from unwarranted damage claims later.
- Confirm Policies in Advance: Be clear on your insurance coverage (personal auto, credit card, or rental company) and the specific agency’s debit card or deposit policy before arriving.
Choosing the Logan Car Rental Facility is choosing efficiency and maximum inventory availability for your Massachusetts travel. By preparing for a potentially high-traffic environment and utilizing the available technologies, you can minimize hassle and get on the road to enjoy the Commonwealth as quickly as possible.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1As someone who has travelled to over 50 countries and almost all the states , I can honestly say this is the worst car rental center of any US airport I’ve been to. And I’ve had the same experience twice in 2 years, so it wasn’t a fluke.I rarely post reviews but this place really pissed me off. Twice.Apparently all rental car companies are now one, so prepare to stand in a massive line for Avis/Budget/Enterprise. Also be prepared to not be greeted, or smiled at, or acknowledged as a human. You will be offered insurance multiple times, and when you say you’re covered they ask what you have, and will confidently reply it doesn’t cover rental cars (mine does).Next, go to the hot, sweaty garage and stand in another queue. If it’s busy, it’s 1-2 employees facing chaos. When they get to you, expect to get rushed to the first car available. Remember when you picked a car online? Yeah forget that. It was a charade; not even the class of car you picked matters. The needle-bruised employee scans the car and says you’re good. But “hey, I see a scratch on the driver’s door and a dent in the tailgate!?!” “It’s in da system, ya feel me?” I guess I have to feel him.Apparently the person at the exit gate is supposed to mark any damage you found, but they asked for my id then waived me through. No walkaround, no paperwork, no rental agreement. If I get pulled over, I guess the cop has to be patient while I search my email on my phone for something.Returning the car is quick, thankfully. However those scratches and dents I saw when I picked up the car are still not acknowledged by an employee, nor is my fuel state on return. So I guess I have to cross my fingers and hope all those damages from previous renters are “in da system.” Ya feel me?
July 26 · Peter NelsonHORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Please use any rental service other than budget/avis in Boston. There is always a very long line in front of the counter. Many of the employees seem tired of their jobs. When I was returning my car, I forgot to leave the key inside. I came back just to ask whether I should leave it in the car or hand it in there, but they tried to send me to the end of a line of about 40–50 people. They didn’t even bother to answer my question. I told them that if I waited in line, I would miss my flight, but they didn’t care. They said, “You’re not a preferred member; you need to wait in line.” One of the staff members even shrugged dismissively and gestured for me to leave in a condescending way. It was extremely humiliating.I went to the car return area to find an employee, but there was no one there. On the window of the return booth, they had posted a note saying, “We are currently not serving here, please go to the front counter.” But as I explained, the situation at the front counter was terrible. I was so frustrated that I left the place without dropping off the key. While I was on the shuttle bus to the airport terminal, a man called me and said "you had forgotten to leave the key". Since all the people at the front counter were women, I realized that the caller had no idea about what had happened. I asked where I should bring the key, and he said he was waiting for me at the car return area. I went back and handed it over. It’s been almost a month now, and they still haven’t refunded the deposit they took from me. This is definitely a place to avoid.
October 13 · Edip Onur TanI gave it a 4-star due the difficulty in finding it after arriving at Boston/Logan. Directions are clear up until you get your luggage but then we had to ask for directions. You’ll hop on one of the airport shuttle buses, which will take you to the car rental facility. Rental companies are easy to locate. From there, it depends on the specific company.Ours was hassle-free and we walked right up to the vehicle we wanted.Rates were decent. I’ll most likely rent a car again from there in the future.Exiting the airport was confusing, but Google maps navigated good enough to get out and to the hotel.Upon return, signage was sufficient and directed us where to go.
October 04 · D CI have never had to wait so long to rent a car. ...wait for shuttle, wait 45 minutes to get to the counter, wait to have someone point me to my car, wait in line to drive out of the garage. I will say the lady at the counter was very pleasant and helpful. it's the process... worse than going thru TCA.
October 15 · ken Grayburn⭐☆☆☆☆I rented a car from Budget Avis at Boston Logan Airport from September 4th to September 8th and was unfairly charged $125 for “excessive dog hair.” The problem is — there was never an animal in the car. It was just me and my daughter, and we both have long blonde hair. The company showed me one photo of a few crumbs and some hair on the rug, which could easily be cleaned with a standard vacuum. There was no hair in the back seat (where a dog would normally be), and no evidence of a pet at all. When we returned the car, staff even told us to leave our small Dunkin’ Donuts containers in the car, which we did, assuming normal cleaning would be handled.I tried to dispute the charge by email, and they only offered a 25% discount — but I declined because the fee itself was unjustified. This feels like a cleaning charge that should be part of normal service, not an “excessive” fee.I’m disappointed in how this was handled and would like a full refund. I hope Budget reviews its cleaning policy and trains staff to distinguish between normal use and actual “pet hair.” Renters: take photos before and after returning your vehicle — even for something as minor as a few hairs.
