If I could give this business zero stars I would. Absolutely horrible experience. We booked our rental car through USAA months ago, for our family vacation to Colorado. We booked an suv the size of an equinox or similar. We called into the rental place a couple hours early and asked if we would be able to pick up our rental around 10am, as were already in the area. We were informed it would be ready closer to 12, and to show up then. No biggy. We show up at 11:45, and my husband goes in to see if we can pick up our car now. The employee, Elijah or Elijiah Wright was very rude, and informed him that he would have to wait until exactly 12 to pick it up. My husband comes back outside to wait as was suggested to him, and within 5 min the employee comes back outside and rudely waves for him to come back inside. Inside my husband is informed that they do not currently have the car we booked. That there is a convention going on, and they chose to rent the vehicle we booked to someone else. They informed him that all they had left was a jeep wrangler. My husband then comes back outside and informs me of this. I then get out of our vehicle with my two toddlers to speak to the employee. Right off the bat he was very rude to me. Tried to sell the idea of the jeep to me as an upgrade, and states that I should be grateful they are renting me such a nice car. That it is way better and nicer than the vehicle I drive daily. I then informed him that no, it is in fact not an upgrade. I do not care if the car is shiny or newer than mine, I need a car with space that can hold my children’s car seats and our luggage comfortably. I stated had I wanted a jeep I would have booked one. He then proceeded to speak with a degrading tone and try to tell me the jeep was in fact way bigger than my suv. When I replied back saying we booked this in advance and the suv I booked was more expensive than a jeep, and asked for a partial refund if this is really all they have left for us, he declined to do so. He told me that I was rude, and should accept what I can get, and that it was not his job to accommodate the customer if he felt my attitude wasn’t pleasing to him. I stated I was not rude, he was being rude and that I was not happy with the arrangement and it was his job seeing as he is in customer service. I let him know we would take it If it is the absolute best they can do, as we were on a time crunch, but that we would not be doing business with them again in the future. He then declined to give me the vehicle. Stated why would I rent this one to you now if you won’t rent with us again? Then proceeded to get in my face & to raise his voice at me telling me I was rude again, and that the customer isn’t always right. I asked to speak to his manager and he at first declined. So I said it again, and he then informed me that he was the manager. I let him know that I would be contacting corporate and speaking to those above him. I asked him for our money back to which he stated there is nothing to give back as we haven’t charged you yet. I said okay, and informed him that if there does end up a charge, I will call the police and report him for fraud. We then left, and went to enterprise, where the service was amazing. Please do not visit Hertz at this location. They may advertise they have great rates and discounts, but apparently those rates and discounts do not come with manners or human decency. Horrible service. Horrible manager. Horrible experience.

I rented a car from the Hertz Shawnee location two days ago, trusting that it would meet the company’s promised standards of cleanliness and the “no pets allowed” policy. Unfortunately, that was not the case.While driving to college with my friend (who has a severe dog allergy), she suddenly started experiencing itching. Concerned, I checked the back seats and was shocked to find them covered in dog hair. This forced us to visit the hospital instead of attending college — a completely avoidable situation if the car had been properly cleaned before being rented out.Later that day, I visited the Hertz Shawnee location to request a solution. I asked for a different car since the current one was full of dog hair, but the staff informed me that no other cars were available for exchange. I then requested that they at least clean the car thoroughly, as Hertz initially assured me that pets were not allowed in their vehicles — which is why I specifically chose Hertz over other rental companies.However, the staff member I dealt with was rude and unhelpful. He claimed that he had already done the “maximum vacuuming” and could not remove the dog hair. He then told me that my only option was to drive to the airport to exchange the car or continue using it in its current state. His tone was harsh and dismissive, showing zero concern for the fact that my friend is allergic to dogs and that we need to use the car multiple times a week for college.This experience falls far below Hertz’s expected standards. The staff’s attitude and unwillingness to resolve the issue were unacceptable. I expect Hertz to take immediate action — either provide a properly cleaned car or offer an exchange without requiring me to drive to the airport. Until this issue is resolved, I will not be using the car.I urge the Hertz Shawnee location manager to look into this matter seriously and take appropriate action against the staff member involved. This level of service is unacceptable and needs to be addressed to prevent future issues.

This Hertz location has some of the hardest-working employees I’ve encountered. They go above and beyond to accommodate customers, even honoring a rate from another location. I also appreciate their strong stance on respect and inclusivity—it’s clear that they maintain a welcoming environment. While I understand some may feel differently, I always question if it’s you (the customer) and not the actual location. Our experience has truly been different and speculator. I truly think people have nothing better to do than to make bad reviews without taking responsibility for their own actions.The manager (Elijah) genuinely seems to care about both customers and staff, though it’s evident that he’s working tirelessly. I truly hope Hertz corporate recognizes the dedication and effort this team puts in every day. Their commitment to great service does not go unnoticed.

Elijah is ABSOLUTELY incredible. SO very caring and helpful! He even left his office and came to pick me up when Enterprise left me to fend for myself! He is so accommodating to your needs and I will never rent from anyone or anywhere else than Hertz and Elijah! Hertz, I advise you to do whatever you can to keep him around! He is the face of your business and the reason Hertz is the gold star of rentals and NOT ENTERPRISE. Hertz VALUES their customers! Thank you Elijah!

I rent from this location frequently, and the staff are the best! Customer service is outstanding from everyone, but Elijah goes above and beyond. I’ve tried several companies and locations within 30 min of my house over the past few years and, hands down, this is the best. The staff at this location are 100% the reason I switched to Hertz as my primary rental car company over my previous preferred vendor.
