What is worth choosing? Transparency and Customer Service
When choosing Avis at GSO, customers are opting for the convenience of an on-airport presence and the broad range of vehicle options, from compact electric cars to large passenger vans, that a major national brand can provide. The availability of military discounts and accessibility features are noteworthy positive considerations for specific customer demographics.
However, potential renters in the North Carolina region should approach their booking with attention to detail, particularly in light of customer feedback regarding the specific service experience at this location. Reviews from real customers highlight significant concerns that suggest inconsistent service delivery, which should be factored into the decision-making process. These concerns include reports of:
- Wait Times and Staff Engagement: Accounts of long waits, even with advance bookings, and reports of unprofessional or disengaged staff at the rental counter.
- Vehicle Condition: Instances where vehicles were reportedly delivered dirty or with significantly low fuel, leading to disputes upon return. Renters must meticulously document the vehicle's condition and fuel level (with timestamped photos/videos) at pickup to prevent incorrect charges.
- Dispute Resolution: Difficulties in resolving billing issues or damage claims, sometimes requiring significant effort and follow-up from the customer, such as emailing photographic evidence of initial vehicle conditions.
Given these reported issues, while the convenience of a major airport rental agency and its extensive fleet selection remains a strong incentive, prospective customers should prioritize diligence. It is advisable to utilize the Avis Preferred program for expedited service where possible, to thoroughly inspect and photograph the vehicle at the time of pickup and drop-off, and to be prepared for proactive communication with the company's national customer service line (1-800-352-7900) should any discrepancies arise, especially concerning fuel or vehicle damage documentation. Choosing Avis at GSO means opting for convenience and selection, but with the caveat that careful adherence to personal documentation protocols will be key to a smooth transaction.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Do not rent a car from Avis you will regret it. I booked a car weeks in advance. When I got to the rental counter the service was started to go down hill. First, an agent was just sitting playing on her cell phone while I was waiting in line. When I got up to the counter she just to but you name, phone number, and which rental company you booked with on a sheet of paper. That paper was a wait list. The worst part they had the cars just no keys inside and where waiting for a basket full of keys to be brought in. When my name was finally called and I got my keys I went out to the rental vehicle to find it Empty on Fuel and Dirty. When I returned the car they charged me for not returning the vehicle on full. When I called Avis customer service to get it resolved the agent did not seem to understand the concept that I picked it up Empty. I had to email proof of the fuel gauge on pickup and emailed back the following day to prompt the correction. I have had a similar issue with Enterprise before but when I call them they helped my out instantly and removed the charges while I was on the phone. I have never had such a horrible rental experience until I chose to rent with Avis for the first time.
September 15 · Tyler TribleyI went to return my car today and I had some of the rudest customer service I have ever had in my life. Cameron had the worst attitude I have ever seen. He didnt even look me in the eyes and never greeted me. When I asked questions he ignored me and the gentleman beside him (today 8/1/2025) at 3pm skinnier guy was also extremely rude. The guy beside him wrote something on his personal cell phone. Cameron leaned over and they both laughed about it. Cameron was very short, unprofessional, rude and hostile with all the guests. Eveyone in the line was upset. Cameron gave me the wrong receipt and told me incorrect information multiple times. Barely wanted to help me. I work for a a company who uses Avis as a preferred rental service and they are based out of Greensboro NC where they have employees fly in frequently and Im going to recommend they change their rental service after this experience. It is an absolute shame. Someone from corporate needs to come in and evaluate the problems at this location. The employees clearly hate their jobs and it really shouldnt be that way. Also the car I picked up had damage on it and I tried to tell them all week but couldn't get anyone on the phone. I have photos and time stamps of all of this.
October 06 · Benjamin MartinDo not waste your time renting with AVIS from this airport. I travel 275 days out of the year from work, and rent with Avis often, and I am AVIS preferred member. This experience was by far the worst and I was there for vacation with family. I booked my reservation over a month in Advance. My flight was canceled the day before, so when I booked a new flushing 24hrs before my original pickup, I changed it immediately and my new pickup time was within 3 hrs of my former one. When I arrived at the check in desk there was bunch of people in the waiting area by the counter, and we all received the same information. “No cars available for 3 hours”, and then we were told the car we booked wasn’t guaranteed because all vehicles were still out. This only means that AVIS GSO overbooked cars out is sheer greed and disregard for customers. I waited 1hour and was at risk of missing a family event we were in town for so I canceled my reservation. Walked 5 feet over to enterprise which has vehicles ready for pickup. I’ve never had to wait for a rental car pickup and never will. I was told this happens often at this location. So just save yourself the stress and book with Enterprise because you’ll be guaranteed the car you ordered at the reservation time you chose.
August 13 · Harlems DiamondI picked up a vehicle from this airport location only drove to Clt airport location. The car was in poor condition like it had been in an accident BEFORE I received it. I returned the car the very next day to CLT with a full tank. Not only was I charged for gas, I was told I did not return the vehicle and that I committed the damages!!! Look at both airport videos and I have the gas receipt! This is the 2nd time Avis had committed fraud with me and I will be pursuing legal actions and definitely will be no 3rd chances! Avoid AVIS at all costs or it will COST YOU literally! I have a picture of the car in the condition I received it below!
August 06 · Letasia TorresCustomer service doing the best they can, but behind the scenes something going wrong. It makes no sense that so many people have to go on a waitlist for a car they’ve booked online days in advance. Hire more staff.
