Would not budge in changing my car to premium. Then, they claimed that they do not have premium cars, however, I clearly saw better cars/models coming out of their garage. I don’t have issue driving a RAV4, but I do have issue with customer care and service they provided. Plus no offer to prorate my price for giving me a lower rental cost price.
May 19 · Varun ModiWorst staff experience at 12th street east in Manhattan. The girl at the desk is a scammer along with her manager who said his name was Jordan and refused to give the girl's name and went on to say that we better get out with what ever he's given as a courtesy or he will cancel the car booking! He actually threatened my daughter and me after the horrible service the girl gave us. On renting the car, we pointed it out to her that 3rd party liability insurance was missing and we wanted it. She disnt know how to go about it and told us she would connect with her manager and get back to us that very night. This was at 7.30 pm on 24th July 2025. Around 10.45 pm we went back to the avis place to ask her for an update. She said the manager was unavailable and 1st thing in the morning she would let us know. Next day by 2pm when we did not hear from her, we once again visited her and on seeing ua she said she forgot to check for the insurance. As the manager called Jordan was there we requested him to provide us with insurance and told him that nearly a day had gone by and we weren't able to use the car as the girl couldn't manage the insurance. At that point he tells us that we are lucky that he did us a favor and managed the insurance. That's when we pointed out to him that it's more a mistake and carelessness of the girl who rented the car without insurance and that he was doing us no favor, infact we made a loss of a days rental. That's when he started talking rudely and asked us to leave immediately else he would cancel the booking! When we said we would complain he said do whatever you want and refused to give us the staff names and details!We realized that he was a very scary person and could trouble us even more and hence left quietly. On sunday 27th july when we went to return the car in the evening at 6.30, the same girl was there who didn't make a return entry. Luckily I took a video of us returning the car along with snap shots of miles driven and car tank showing full.We were worried that the girl would create trouble amd hence took precautions on our side.And actually she didn't mark the return and we got a call today morning i.e 29th July as to why we were late and were charged for extra days! Imagine the guts of that girl who undoubtedly had full support from her manager to do this to us!How can avis allow this kind of behavior of their staff? There have been complaints about this place and I wonder why avis has not taken any legal action against the duo? We shpuld have been infact rightfully given a refund for the 1st day due to the girls lack of service due to which we couldn't use the car but instead we had such a horrifying experience. I would want everyone to be aware that this is the worst place to rent a car as the staff have infinite powerr to trouble you! Watch out!Update as of 4th Aug 2025 04We have been charged for 2 extra days just what I feared looking at the girl amd her manager behavior. We have been calling avis everyday and what they say is we have to prove we returned the car! This is such a scam..they should be checking their records and cctv and take action against this fraudulent staff! Instead we the poor customer are getting stressed and sad part is that the company isn't ready to look into the matter..just delaying it..watch out if u planning to rent from avis..especially from Greenwich..u need to take videos at every moment to prove urself else u r in deep trouble!
August 04 · Anishi ShethThis Avis location is terrible. I had multiple awful experiences here before.First, they don’t guarantee cars through reservations, as many people complained. Call the number from below picture to make a complaint to Department of Consumer Affairs.Second, I was once given an EV (not a Tesla, and it looked like a regular gasoline car) with only 25% charge, without any notice. I only found out when I was almost driving out of the city. I could barely drive back and exchange the car with the remaining battery. My weekend trip was completely ruined. What could be worse was, I could have ended up somewhere in the jungle at midnight with a dead car and a toddler in it if I hadn’t found this out by myself.This place can ruin your trip in any beyond-imagination and dangerous way. Avoid it and choose another Avis location, or the National nearby.
July 16 · Dadong HuangAs someone who has rented from this location for 10 years I had the worst experience ever this evening. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism in my life, especially as a status holding corporate member of Avis. I had a reservation to pick up a car at this location at 9pm this evening. When we arrived 10 mins before our reservation, the woman at the front desk told us she would not check us out because she had a busy night and wanted to go on break. She proceeded to tell us we needed to sit and wait until “9:36 when she then would decide if her break was over”. When we proceeded to explain to her our reservation was as 9pm she told us “it’s not her problem and she will check us out whenever she decides her break is over”.As a paying customer this is completely unacceptable. Going forward I will be transferring my business to hertz which is 2 blocks away.
August 21 · Rachel B. RoschelleLet’s start by saying renting a car in Manhattan is expensive. No matter what.I rented a car at this location and we ended up leaving something behind. I tried to reach the office but the call gets diverted to corporate. So I walked over there ( about a mile1/2 ) and the staff there was so super nice! They apologized for the lack of phone contact ( no service underground) and went above and beyond to track down my missing item. The woman at the desk ( Donna?) was so friendly and kind. She called the Warren street location where the car was last returned after I had rented it. Two really helpful employees ( Leon and Tyrone) went looking for my lost item. They finally found it ( yay!!) and held it for me until I came to get it an hour or so later. These folks - in both locations - went above and beyond to help me and I was ( am ) super grateful.Even though the price for the rental was pretty high, I would definitely rent from these two locations again. Thank you everyone at the 11th street, and Warren street locations! I am a customer for life!!
