Budget Car Rental Introduce
For residents, business professionals, and visitors arriving in the heart of the city, the Budget Car Rental branch at 100 Clarendon Street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood provides an extremely accessible and central location for all ground transportation needs. Operating as both a comprehensive Car rental agency and a dedicated Van rental agency, this branch caters to the demand for reliable temporary vehicles in one of Massachusetts' most dynamic and densely populated areas.
The key advantage of this location is its unparalleled centrality, situated right within the Back Bay Station Garage. This makes it an ideal choice for local Massachusetts users taking a spontaneous trip, or for commuters arriving via the MBTA Commuter Rail, Amtrak, or the Orange and Green subway lines. From this central hub, renters have direct, if sometimes delayed, access to a diverse fleet of vehicles suitable for city navigation, suburban trips, or longer New England excursions. The typical fleet includes everything from fuel-efficient compact cars to larger full-size sedans, SUVs, and minivans, often necessary for transporting goods or groups.
Budget emphasizes convenience with Onsite services for a streamlined process, and flexibility in payment, accepting both major Credit cards and Debit cards. In a nod to community appreciation, the branch offers valuable Active military discounts. Furthermore, the facility ensures broad access with a Wheelchair accessible entrance and designated Wheelchair accessible parking lot within the garage structure, making it a viable option for all local Massachusetts customers.
However, potential customers should be aware that, as a high-traffic city location, the customer experience can be inconsistent. Local reviews frequently cite long wait times—sometimes exceeding an hour—due to the absence of express services like "Fast Break," as well as issues with vehicle cleanliness and the imposition of potentially disputed cleaning fees. Therefore, while the location is highly convenient, users are strongly advised to allocate ample time for the check-out process and to meticulously photograph the vehicle both before and after rental to document its condition and avoid unnecessary charges.
The Budget Car Rental office is located in the vibrant Back Bay area of Boston, right inside the multi-level Back Bay Station Garage. This location is one of the most transit-accessible rental sites in the entire city, making it a preferred option for those relying on public transportation or arriving from out of state via train.

For a Massachusetts resident or visitor seeking a rental vehicle in Boston, the Budget Car Rental at 100 Clarendon Street in Back Bay is highly attractive due to its supreme geographical convenience. Its location within the transit hub of Back Bay Station is arguably its greatest asset, providing direct, sheltered access from the MBTA and Amtrak services, eliminating the need for an additional taxi or ride-share to the rental office. This makes it a top choice for business travelers and city dwellers needing a quick, in-and-out rental experience.
Beyond location, the ability to rent a broad range of vehicles—from a small car for urban parking to a passenger van—all from a single, accessible city office is a major operational benefit. The commitment to value through Active military discounts and payment flexibility via Credit cards and Debit cards also enhances its standing as a professional service provider.
However, choosing this location requires a proactive and well-prepared approach from the customer. The absence of an express check-out service like "Fast Break," combined with a high volume of city traffic, necessitates planning for potentially long wait times at the counter, as documented by previous renters. Furthermore, the recurring customer complaints about vehicle cleanliness, smoke smell, and questionable fees (specifically the $125 cleaning fee for minimal dirt/sand) require significant diligence.
The "moral of the tale" from previous customers is a crucial piece of advice for all Massachusetts renters using this branch: meticulously document the vehicle's condition, inside and out, with photographs before and after the rental period. Specifically, note any existing cosmetic damage, interior issues like odors or marked-up consoles, and excessive dirt. By managing expectations regarding counter wait times and proactively documenting the vehicle's condition, local users can effectively mitigate the reported service issues and successfully leverage the superior convenience and comprehensive fleet options of this centrally located Budget Car Rental.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Arrived at rental centre today (18 Aug) to find counter staff inundated with customers. When seen, was dealt with quickly and allocated a car. However, on collecting the car (several floors up) found it hadn't been cleaned inside or out since previous customer. Also had pen markings on side noting issues. Asked staff about this and they said it is "good to go", and there are no alternatives available. Disappointed since no effort was made to bring car to an acceptable drive-away condition and there was issues marked up. No idea if the car is actually requiring work beyond a clean... Inside also smelt of smoke, so presumably the last customer was a smoker. Very disappointed and wouldn't use Budget again based on this experience.
August 18 · D YI've been a Budget customer for many years... I have never had a cleaning fee ($125) for excessive dirt. I complained and they reversed charges, but if they have to vacuum your car before renting to another client, they will charge you! We had a little sand on the floor mats and this was worthy of a $125 charge. They took a photo of the "excessive sand" and you could not see it in the photo. They were just photos of codes. It is obvious they don't do a thorough cleaning of the car before renting it out again because we found 3 empty beer cans in the spare tire compartment. Google "Budget Car Rental cleaning fee "and there are many complaints about this across ALL Budget companies. Protest the cleaning charges and they will reverse. Also, there is no Fast Break at this location and we waited over an hour to receive our car.Moral of the tale: Photograph not only before you rent a car, but AFTER. Make sure you note if there is any Smoke smell before taking it off the lot.
July 30 · Jennifer SearsThey over booked themselves. We had a reservation for 9:30 this morning to take a road trip, but didn't get a car until well passed 1:30 in the afternoon which threw a wrench in our plans :/ There were also many other people ahead of us waiting as well. One of the employees was very rude and dismissive, but the other was helpful and answered our questions kindly. He made the experience slightly better.
June 22 · Bridget BilligAvoid at all costs. I am only giving this two stars to be fair because I ended up with a vehicle, the bare minimum. When I arrived, it was the same situation as all other reviews- overbooked and no available vehicles (despite my reservation). Had to wait an hour for a van to show up (I reserved an SUV). The people at the counter were immediately rude to people walking in, saying “it’s nice you have a reservation but that doesn’t mean we have a car for you”. It was very uncomfortable. Also, they have no capability of refueling the vehicles at this location so several cars anrrived annd stayed empty. Also the Budget and Avis vehicles/workers are the same so don’t expect any difference.
June 07 · Jay BerkoI had a great experience at this Boston location. Location is convenient in my opinion. The car I received was new, clean, and ran well. I had a unique situation and needed to drop off a rental early/pick up a different reservation at the same time, and the employees were helpful, friendly, and informative. All my questions were answered in a professional and pleasant manner. I have not had the best experiences at car rental places, but here was different - it was great!
