Thrifty Car Rental - Boston Logan International Airport Introduce
For Massachusetts residents returning home or visitors arriving in the Bay State, securing reliable transportation right at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) is a top priority. Thrifty Car Rental, conveniently situated in the airport’s rental car center, offers an array of vehicles designed to meet the demands of both urban commuting and extensive New England road trips. This location provides the essential service of getting travelers quickly from the terminal to the roadways of Massachusetts and beyond.
As a major car rental agency, Thrifty at BOS is committed to offering competitive rates and a broad fleet selection. However, the airport setting, with its high volume of travelers and complex logistics, can occasionally lead to operational challenges. Customer feedback suggests that while the goal is a seamless process, users must be proactive and prepared. Specifically, issues have been reported with digital check-in tools, requiring renters to wait in line at the counter, which can be particularly frustrating after a long flight. Furthermore, some customers have experienced vehicles that were not properly "make-ready," citing cleanliness issues, missing features like GPS, or maintenance warnings such as low tire pressure or due oil changes.
Despite these potential pitfalls, this Thrifty location possesses several distinguishing characteristics. It proudly identifies as a women-owned business, offering a unique highlight in the highly competitive airport car rental sector. Additionally, they offer a wide range of popular vehicle types, including electric vehicles and spacious SUVs, catering to varied traveler needs from a quick Boston business trip to a family vacation through New England's scenic routes. Customers must confirm all aspects of their reservation and vehicle condition before leaving the lot. Being located directly in the airport's Consolidated Rental Car Center is a major logistical advantage, as it simplifies the arrival and departure process by centralizing all major rental brands.
When renting from any airport location, especially for extended travel or cross-border plans, Massachusetts users are strongly encouraged to verify all details—from the presence of a PlatePass tolling device for local travel to the accurate documentation required for driving into Canada—before leaving the lot. This attention to detail will help ensure a smooth, worry-free journey across Massachusetts and beyond.
The Thrifty Car Rental location at Boston Logan International Airport is positioned in the Consolidated Rental Car Center, making it the most practical choice for those flying into or out of Massachusetts. The address is an essential landmark for travelers navigating the airport’s complex infrastructure.
The exact address is:
156 Tomahawk Dr, Boston, MA 02128, USA
This address places the agency within the dedicated facility for all airport rental operations. Accessing the counter requires a short trip via the free shuttle bus from the airport terminal to the Rental Car Center (RCC). Customers arriving by air should follow the signs for "Rental Car Center" upon baggage claim to find the designated shuttle area.
Operational hours are designed to accommodate the heavy traffic of a major international hub, though there is a short overnight closure period. The counter is generally open early morning until late evening, typically running from 6:00 AM to 1:30 AM (closing briefly between 1:30 AM and 6:00 AM). Renters with late arrivals must confirm their flight arrival time against the closing time to ensure they don't face a five-hour wait for the counter to reopen, a significant inconvenience noted by customers.
Key accessibility features at this facility include:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance, facilitating easy access to the rental counter and vehicle areas.
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot, ensuring convenient and dedicated parking spaces.
As a full-service car rental agency operating from a major transportation hub, Thrifty at BOS provides a comprehensive suite of options tailored for both Massachusetts-based travel and cross-country adventures.
The core services provided at this Boston Logan location include:
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Offering a wide selection of vehicles ranging from economy cars for budget-conscious travel to mid-size, full-size sedans, SUVs, minivans, and specialty vehicles like electric cars, all subject to daily availability.
- Onsite Rental Services: All booking, paperwork, and vehicle pickup/drop-off processes are handled directly at the counter within the Consolidated Rental Car Center.
- Active Military Discounts: Providing special rate discounts for active military personnel and veterans, often through partnership programs or specialized booking codes.
- PlatePass® All-Inclusive Tolling Device: Offering an optional prepaid service that allows for unlimited use of electronic toll roads throughout Massachusetts and other participating states (including the crucial New England toll roads), avoiding fines and administrative fees.
- Flexible Payment Options: Accepting various forms of payment, including major Credit Cards, Debit Cards (with specific policy requirements and deposit amounts), and NFC Mobile Payments.
- Cross-Border Travel Information: Providing guidance and vehicle documentation for travel into Canada, which often includes a requirement for a Canadian Non-Resident Insurance Card, an essential detail for New England travelers.
- Optional Extras: Customers can rent additional amenities such as GPS units, child car seats, and SiriusXM® satellite radio, depending on inventory.
This specific Thrifty Car Rental agency distinguishes itself with unique operational characteristics and a commitment to certain customer segments.
The key features and highlights are:
- Women-Owned Business: The agency identifies itself as women-owned, contributing to business diversity in the Boston area.
- Airport Convenience: Located within the BOS Consolidated Rental Car Center, streamlining the rental experience for air travelers upon arrival and departure.
- Full Accessibility: Ensuring ease of use for all customers with a wheelchair accessible entrance and designated parking.
- Acceptance of Debit Cards: Providing payment flexibility by accepting debit cards for rental, although this usually requires a larger security deposit and may have other stipulations.
- Toll Convenience with PlatePass®: Offering the PlatePass® All-Inclusive Tolling service, which is a major advantage for navigating the numerous electronic toll roads in Massachusetts and the entire region without the risk of violations.
- Military Savings: Dedicated discounts are available to service members, a valued feature for the substantial military community in Massachusetts and New England.
For general inquiries, reservation assistance, or to confirm the availability of specific features like GPS, specialty vehicles, or the Canadian Non-Resident Insurance Card, users should contact the local number.

Choosing Thrifty Car Rental at Boston Logan International Airport is particularly worthwhile for Massachusetts users who prioritize the convenience of an on-airport location, value business diversity, and require specialized travel amenities. The ability to collect and return a vehicle directly at the Consolidated Rental Car Center, accessible via a short shuttle ride from all terminals, offers unparalleled logistical efficiency upon arrival in Massachusetts. This centralization significantly reduces stress, especially when arriving after a long flight.
The agency’s offering of the PlatePass® All-Inclusive Tolling device is a crucial feature for anyone planning to drive extensively across the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) and other New England toll roads. Given that many tolls in the region are now all-electronic, PlatePass simplifies travel by allowing drivers to bypass complex payment logistics, preventing potential fees and violation notices. Furthermore, the agency’s identification as a women-owned business is a positive differentiator for customers who prefer supporting diverse enterprises.
However, potential renters, particularly those with late-night arrivals or plans for cross-border travel, must exercise due diligence. Given the reported issues with late-night counter closure and the importance of necessary documentation for Canada, renters should call ahead to confirm operational hours and the availability of the Canadian Non-Resident Insurance Card. They should also inspect their assigned vehicle thoroughly for cleanliness, maintenance warnings, and the presence of any pre-ordered devices like PlatePass or GPS before driving off, documenting any issues to ensure a smooth and fair rental experience. While there may be operational inconsistencies, the convenience of the location, the specialty services like PlatePass, and the diverse fleet make it a valuable choice for many Massachusetts travelers.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The worst car rental experience I have had in 40 years! The App & the text instructions did not work at all after numerous attempts. I was texted “ Your car is ready, tap the link to locate, inspect & exit. It didn't work. I then went to the car garage with this info and waited in line for 30 minutes only to find out rudely that I had to go back up to the rental counter where I waited in line for 45 minutes. The counter person was very condescending when I explained my experience. I was then sent down to the garage with no paperwork and waited in line again for 20 minutes. The same attendant was once again rude and pointed to a car that had all its windows rolled down & when we got in it reeked of marijuana. The car wheels were damned and the car was filthy inside & outside. I pointed it out to the attendant and he said “that all I got!” After driving the car a bit with the windows down to air it out, a yellow warning light came on and a message for engine oil & tire pressure message came on. I called Thrifty and the support tech was able to check the car wirelessly. He said the oil light was for an oil change due and the tire pressure (no pressures matched even close) would be ok to drive? We had to drive the car to Manchester Airport ( NH), a 1 hour drive (with the windows open) to exchange the car. Because we planned to take the car to Canada we also had made several calls to Thrifty about the Canadian Non Residential proof of Insurance card need to cross the border with a rental and had been instructed that we had to get that from a rental site. The Thrifty person at the Manchester airport site said that wont be necessary, we (Thrifty) are self insured” That is not true. Its a Canadian border requirement stated on their web site. I guess we will find out when we attempt to cross the border this week and miss the wedding we planned on attending. Also when they switched cars in Manchester they forgot to include the prepaid Thrifty PlatePass All-Inclusive Tolling device did not get put into our new vehicle. We realized that after we got back to our hotel. The vehicle also did not have GPS? A horrible experience and it’s not over yet.
September 07 · Dynawideglide@verizon.net BlackI think Thrifty should have a little more common sense than to close at the airport AFTER booking a rental they knew was a late arrival. Now we are expected to wait 5 hours after a 4 hour flight so we can drive an hour to our destination.Update: it would have been nice to have not been badgered about upgrades after going over 24 hrs without sleep. (We'll just tack on $300 to your rental and bill your card instead of the original account that you set up)Then, we get a car that was not make-ready for the next renter. Muddy floorboard and hair all over the backseat???I spent 26 years in a customer service field. This whole experience is unacceptable.
May 23 · Robert DavidoskiVehicle was not as expected. Dirty, not washed and filled with garbage. Tank was not full as was indicated. When I went in for an exchange the lady in gold hertz let me know there would be not drop off charges for me returning the exchange to the Boston Airport as she noted on the account due to an accident. When speaking with Jacob after our not at fault accident he was extremely helpful but the overall experience was not good.Waited 2 hours to exchange my vehicle and get back on the road as Boston Airport was the closest exchange after the accident. They didn't have options for a Q4 rental that we had to choose from so she just picked one for us and it was FILTHY. had to drive another 600+ miles in that disaster and smelled of weed. So disappointing only to return the vehicle and le the know the remaining balance was Over 600$ ON TOP of the 506$ dollars I paid for the insurance and hold plus the 600$ I paid for the 5 day rental. I'm not 1800$ charged into 2 vehicles and 4 hours of time loss trying to get a vehicle, back for an exchange and then a return. Absolute nightmare.Never should have deviated from Enterprise as we normally get. This experience has been awful and ridiculously expensive for lack of employee experience and attention to detail. Please go elsewhere. Especially if you value time and money to ANY EXTENT.
September 10 · shauna ackettI rented a car this last week and returned the car with a completely full tank of gas and they charged me for an extra 1/4 tank of gas at $10.99 a gallon. I took pictures that are timestamped. I would be glad to send them to show it was full but they will not answer the phone. I'd be glad to change the review if they make this right but out of all cars I've rented in my life I have never had a company do this. BEWARE. FYI the auto reply response below to go to your support page was contacted prior to posting a review. Your company doesn't answer the phone. If you really would like to make this right, call me and fix this. You have my number RES L21500102C9.Update: they did make it right or at least said they would refund the additional fuel charge and service fee within 28 days. Review would have a better rating if the lady in the parking garage when picking up the car was more friendly and accommodating when the key was missing. When brought to her attention she said "and?" I had to advise I couldn't drive a car without a key.
May 23 · Isaac ReddingThe longest wait time for a rental car in my whole life so far, I understand people show up at the same time when the flights arrive, but that's the job of the manager to speed up the line. The whole experience was kind of like going to the DMV. The return process was quick, and I was told the receipt would be sent out by email. The extra star was from the assigned Hybrid rental car.
