Enterprise Rent-A-Car Introduce
For residents and visitors of Pennsylvania, particularly those in the Philadelphia area, securing reliable transportation can be a critical element of a successful trip or seamless vehicle replacement. Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 36 S 19th St, often referred to as the Rittenhouse location, provides a centrally positioned car and van rental service right in the heart of Center City, Philadelphia. This location primarily focuses on serving the local community, often catering to customers needing a vehicle while their personal car is being repaired, a segment for which Enterprise is nationally renowned.
Beyond its convenient location, this branch carries the notable distinction of identifying as a women-owned business, offering a unique local highlight within the national Enterprise network. The operation prides itself on a broad selection of vehicles, from compact cars perfect for the tight city streets to larger vans suitable for group travel across Pennsylvania's diverse landscape. Positive experiences, such as the seamless five-star service and helpful assistance from staff like Matthew, demonstrate the potential for a truly excellent customer journey, where proactive communication and a clean, comfortable vehicle are prioritized.
However, users should exercise the typical caution required with any major city car rental. While the experience for many is smooth, there have been documented instances of significant communication breakdowns, particularly concerning final costs. One customer detailed a frustrating experience involving unexpected charges for vehicle choice and "after hours" return—fees that were allegedly not clearly communicated during the rental process. Furthermore, a report of unprofessional and dismissive staff behavior when attempting to resolve a billing dispute serves as a crucial reminder for all customers to confirm all potential fees, return policies, and the exact cost of their chosen vehicle class *before* driving away from the lot to prevent later disputes.
The core promise of Enterprise—convenient local service with a quality fleet—remains, but engaging with the staff to clarify all financial and logistical details is an essential step to ensure a positive outcome for all Pennsylvania users.
The Enterprise Rent-A-Car branch is ideally situated in one of Philadelphia’s most sought-after neighborhoods, providing exceptional access for local residents and those staying in the Center City area. Its proximity to Rittenhouse Square makes it an easy walk or short transit ride from most downtown points, including corporate offices, luxury residences, and major hotels.
The physical address for the rental office is:
36 S 19th St, Philadelphia, PA 19103, USA
Operating hours are set for maximum accessibility during the primary workday and limited hours on weekends, reflecting its focus on local and corporate rentals rather than 24/7 airport service:
- Monday – Friday: 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
- Sunday: Closed
A key detail to note is the policy regarding returns: this specific location does not offer an "After Hours Drop Service." Therefore, all vehicles must be returned during the stated operating hours. Failing to adhere to this can potentially result in additional charges, as reported in customer feedback, or leave the renter responsible for the vehicle until the office officially reopens.
The facility is committed to physical accessibility for all members of the Pennsylvania community:
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: Ensuring smooth and convenient entry into the rental office.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Available, offering designated spaces for ease of transfer and access to rental vehicles.
- Payment Options: The location accepts major Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and utilizes modern NFC mobile payments for swift transactions.
As a key player in the "home city" car rental market, Enterprise at 36 S 19th St offers a comprehensive suite of services, specializing in temporary transportation needs for both individuals and businesses across the Pennsylvania region.
The primary services provided generally include:
- Wide Vehicle Selection: Offering a spectrum of vehicle classes, including small, economy, compact, medium (intermediate), and full-size sedans for everyday use and city commuting.
- SUV and Truck Rentals: A variety of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and pickup trucks are available for rent, providing comfortable and capable options for trips out of the city, such as to the mountains or shore points.
- Van Rental Agency Services: Providing spacious options, including minivans (typically seating seven passengers) and passenger vans (up to 12 or 15 passengers) for larger group transportation needs, school trips, or commercial use.
- Insurance Replacement Rentals: A core focus of this Enterprise location is providing seamless replacement vehicles for customers whose cars are in the shop due to accidents or mechanical work, often working directly with insurance companies.
- Local Pick-Up Service: Enterprise is well-known for offering to pick up local customers who need to rent a vehicle, taking them to the rental office (this service should be confirmed by calling the branch directly).
- Commercial Vehicle and Business Rentals: Catering to local Philadelphia businesses with flexible rental terms for short-term fleet needs.
- Refueling Options: Offering flexible fuel plans, including pre-paid fuel, for convenience upon return.
This Center City location possesses several distinguishing features that make it stand out as a preferred option for Philadelphia's local clientele:
- Identifies as Women-Owned: Operating as a women-owned business, supporting diversity and local enterprise within the highly competitive Philadelphia market.
- Active Military Discounts: A commitment to supporting the U.S. armed forces community by offering dedicated discounts to active military personnel.
- Premier Center City/Rittenhouse Location: Its prime placement near Rittenhouse Square provides maximum convenience for residents and businesses in the most densely populated parts of downtown Philadelphia.
- Exceptional Staff Service (Confirmed): Demonstrated capacity for providing five-star, professional, and proactive customer assistance, with staff members receiving positive personal recognition for efficiency and helpfulness.
- Focus on Insurance/Home-City Rentals: Strong expertise in handling insurance claims and providing quick, short-notice replacement vehicles, which is a major need for local Pennsylvania drivers.
- Modern Payment Accessibility: The acceptance of Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and NFC mobile payments (e.g., Apple Pay) simplifies the checkout and return process.
For Pennsylvania residents and travelers planning their next rental from this highly accessible Center City location, use the following contact details for reservations, inquiries, or local pick-up arrangements:
Address: 36 S 19th St, Philadelphia, PA 19103, USA
Phone: (215) 751-1460
Mobile Phone: +1 215-751-1460
Given the strict business hours and "no after-hours return" policy, it is highly recommended to call the branch directly to confirm availability and finalize arrangements, particularly concerning the pick-up and drop-off times.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 36 S 19th Street is a compelling choice for Center City Philadelphia users due to its convenient urban location and its standing as a women-owned business. The facility’s specialization in the home-city rental segment means the operations are geared towards customer service, often dealing with the nuanced needs of local residents. The widely praised, highly professional service from certain team members is a major asset that contributes to a stress-free start to a rental period.
However, the value of choosing this location is contingent on the customer’s proactive engagement. Given the negative reviews concerning undisclosed fees and "after hours" penalties, all Pennsylvania renters should treat the initial contract review and discussion as the most crucial step. It is highly worth choosing this branch for the superior convenience, the depth of the fleet (especially for van rentals), and the genuine possibility of a five-star, streamlined experience with attentive staff. To fully capitalize on these benefits and avoid the reported pitfalls, customers must explicitly confirm the total final price, any charges associated with a vehicle upgrade (even if offered), and the mandatory return time, ensuring every detail is clear and documented before the keys are handed over.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Matthew was super helpful. Renting at the Rittenhouse location was seamless. Car was clean and comfortable. There was no waiting for my vehicle infact the day before they called to confirm I was coming in and made sure my reservation was correct. 5 star service all the way! Will definitely be renting from here again .
June 15 · Laura S-RiveraLack of communication on hidden fees.I rented my first vehicle ever from the 19th St. Enterprise in Center City, Philadelphia after my vehicle was getting work done (completely covered by insurance).Everything was well at first, as they called me to schedule pickup and asked what vehicle I wanted after giving me a sedan and truck option (that was it). I arrived to get the vehicle and they gave me an Audi truck, went over the basic information of returning it with gas and no damage, and had me on my way. After returning the vehicle, I was given a bill that included additional fees for the “choice” of vehicle and returning it “after hours”. Neither the fact that I would be charged more for a certain vehicle nor the fact that I would pay an additional fee if returning after a certain time was communicated to me. Had I known these things, I would have planned ahead. My mother’s card was used for the final bill, and after calling to ask about the charges, she was put on hold abruptly with no notice and had a “Tom”/“Tim”? guy laugh and snicker on the phone when she was calmly voicing her displeasure with the communication. I thought about going back to the location myself and confronting Tom/Tim or whoever and the regional manager, but I have not. Yet.Clearly unprofessional staff who purposely hides additional fees and lacks communication. The exact staff you would expect working at an Enterprise in Philadelphia- not being able to handle professionalism in a city and just there to get through the day.Update: the chat that Natalie responded to me with didn’t even work. Location was 36 S 19TH ST, Philadelphia, PA 19103
April 10 · Tyrese Marquis-BelfieldI recently rented a vehicle from Enterprise and had a mixed experience, starting at the PHL Airport location. Online, it showed that vehicles were available, but upon arrival, I was informed that the location wasn’t open and wouldn’t be issuing rentals. This was incredibly frustrating, as I had relied on the online information to plan my trip. With no other option, I had to take a $100 Uber to a nearby Enterprise location that luckily had vehicles in stock. While I was relieved to find a rental, the inconvenience and added expense were a significant setback.Returning the vehicle presented another challenge. I encountered unexpected traffic and realized I’d arrive just after the location’s closing time of 6:00 PM. I called ahead at 5:45 PM to let the staff know I’d be there at 6:00 or 6:05. The first employee I spoke with hesitated, saying, “We like to leave right at 6 if we can.” I explained my situation and pleaded for their help, and he eventually agreed to wait.As my GPS estimated an arrival of 6:02, I called again to confirm. This time, a different employee answered and said, “I’m not sure who you spoke with, but we’re not authorized to stay after hours.” When I clarified that I wasn’t asking for authorization, just confirming they’d stay until 6:05 as agreed, he reluctantly agreed. I arrived at 6:02, and while they did assist me, it felt like I was imposing on them for a service I had paid for.The situation highlighted a few key issues:1. Closing Policies: If you close at 6:00 PM, perhaps establish a buffer where returns end at 5:30 PM. This would avoid last-minute stress for customers navigating unfamiliar traffic patterns or rental policies.2. Inventory Accuracy: The discrepancy between online stock and the actual situation at PHL Airport was misleading and caused unnecessary inconvenience. If a location isn’t operational, the website should clearly reflect that.3. Pricing Differences: The cost to rent at the airport versus a nearby location was drastically higher. While I understand there’s a convenience factor, the difference felt excessive. Transparency about these pricing discrepancies would go a long way in building trust. In the end, while I appreciated the staff staying a few extra minutes, I didn’t feel like Enterprise had my back in a tough situation. These experiences, compounded by unclear policies and pricing, make me hesitant to use Enterprise again. I hope these areas are reviewed and improved for future customers.
January 03 · Diocko JonesI didn't notice any damage to the car when I picked it up. I did notice damage when I got to my destination. When I returned the car, I pointed out the damage but the associate told me not to worry because the damage was already noted. I fwlt I rented from an honest company.
May 28 · Sam BobrowIt was a smooth interaction from the beginning to the end and I appreciate their honesty. I left something in the trunk called back a day after I turned the car back in and yes they had my belongings.
