Hertz Car Rental - San Jose - Ridder Park Drive Introduce
The Hertz Car Rental location at 725 Ridder Park Drive #95 in San Jose, CA, serves as an essential “Home-City” branch for local residents and Silicon Valley professionals who require a rental car outside of the high-traffic airport environment. Strategically positioned within a busy commercial and industrial area, this agency is designed to handle the diverse transportation needs of the greater San Jose community, offering a broad fleet that ranges from economical compact cars to larger specialty vehicles.
Unlike the larger, constantly buzzing airport counters, neighborhood branches like this one on Ridder Park Drive are typically structured to provide more focused service for local customers, including those with vehicle repairs, insurance replacement rentals, or simply needing a car for a weekend trip down the scenic California coast. The fleet composition at this location often reflects the local demand for efficient, budget-friendly options, with vehicles like the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Spark frequently highlighted as popular and available car types.
The Hertz brand promises a standard of reliability, offering various classes of vehicles and supplemental services such as child seats and GPS rentals. They also participate in the well-known Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program, which provides frequent renters with benefits like expedited service and potential discounts. However, customers are advised to approach their rental experience with a clear and proactive mindset, especially concerning the finalization of their contract.
While the benefits of competitive neighborhood pricing and a diverse fleet are clear draws for the local user, recent customer feedback has indicated significant issues with follow-through on staff promises, particularly regarding rental credits, refunds, and final billing accuracy. Renters are encouraged to meticulously document all agreements and closely review their contracts before and after closing to ensure all charges are correct and any promised adjustments, like the removal of fuel surcharges or application of credits, have been correctly applied. This proactive measure is key to avoiding subsequent hassle and potential mandatory in-person follow-ups for refunds.

## What is Worth Choosing
Choosing the Hertz Car Rental - San Jose - Ridder Park Drive location is worth it for California users who prioritize neighborhood convenience, cost savings over airport rates, and a diverse fleet that includes utility vehicles like box trucks. This location is an excellent option for long-term residents and local businesses, especially those who can leverage AAA membership benefits or need to rent for extended periods during vehicle servicing.
The primary reason to select this branch is the non-airport pricing advantage and the availability of popular, fuel-efficient economy and compact cars, ideal for navigating the dense Silicon Valley traffic. However, it is imperative for potential renters to heed the cautionary feedback provided by recent customers.
To have a positive experience at this location, it is critically important to be diligent and self-advocating. Do not rely on verbal promises for credits or refunds; instead, ensure that all promised adjustments—such as the removal of a fuel surcharge or the application of rental credits—are documented in writing and fully processed before the rental contract is closed and you leave the premises. While the customer service experience has been described by some as “non-existent” and “appalling” after the fact, a proactive approach to contract finalization will allow local users to benefit from the location’s competitive rates and convenient fleet options while mitigating the reported risks associated with billing and follow-up issues.

Hertz Car Rental - San Jose - Ridder Park Drive Reviews
Worst rental experience I ever had with Hertz at this location over the years! Customer service is non-existent. I was promised some rental credits for my next rental to compensate for the Uber ride there for pick up. Never come through even after several follow ups with the staff and it has been more than 2 weeks now since then. They also promised to remove the fuel surcharge which was automatically added by their system for a car swap during my renting period before closing the contract, and guess what, it didn't happen either. I needed to go back in person to this location to request a refund which they needed to phone Hertz customer service to push this through because they said once contract is closed, there's nothing they can do. What a joke! Had this been taken care at the time when closing the contract, all these hassles could have been avoided. This location is not trustworthy and the service they provide is appalling. Do not believe any of their promises and prepare to follow up on your own if any issues. Good luck for that! I'd avoid this location at any cost.
September 04 · Daniel ChenThey give me a shuttle to pick up the vehicle but when I returned it, they did not give me a ride. That was a terrible experience. Though their vehicle had %70 charge, I returned it with %95 charge, they did not say a thank you. Zero customer service. I don’t recommend it for anyone.
June 21 · Samiullah PopalzayI wish I could give a 0-star.Here’s my experience with the branch and hertz itself.I was scheduled to pick up the car at 11 am. I reached the rental agency and waited for someone to attend to a long line of customers waiting. When it was my turn, the representative tells me they don’t have a car. He finally arranges for a Mustang after 10 min of walking up and down to tell me that the car is yet to be cleaned and I will have to take it to a car wash myself. I agree. He directs me to the car at 11:49 am, tells me it’s going to take 15-20 min to get the car cleaned up and clarifies that I have to bring the car back before 12 pm the following day. The fuel is at half tank and I can return at half tank. I wait another 15 minutes to get the car as there’s someone vacuuming the interior. The time stamp says 02:06 pm CT (12:06 PST). He clicks pictures of the car and hands me the keys at 12:25 pm. I am already 25 minutes into the rental. The next day I bring my car back to rental agency at 10:50 and drop off the keys at 11 am. I assume everything is clear and walk away. The next morning (Sunday) there is a charge of $100 on my credit card. Note: this is in addition to the $200 deposit hertz has on hold when I picked up the car. I am naturally confused and call Hertz customer care and the representative tells me that it could be because there could be added incidentals. He contacts the branch where the car was picked and they tell him that the car was returned late. I clarify and give him the time of pick up and drop off and he tells me that the branch recorded the time of pick up as 11 am. I tell him I’ve got proof on the rental contract that clearly says the customer signed the paper at 12:06 pm and the drop off was at 11 am. He then goes on to tell me that hertz is not hard on the time and that the rental cost is calculated based on the reservation and the time notified by the customer when the booking is made. I get furious and ask him if that is even a thing and even if that was the case, the car was returned at 11 am the following day. He starts yelling at me, like literally raises his voice to tell me that he has to go by whatever the branch confirms with him. He goes on to ask me to email them the copy of the rental contract that is in their system to prove to them that I picked up the car at 12:06 pm. I told him that I will speak to my credit card company, dispute the charges, post this on social media, take hertz to court, and ensure no one ever rents car with them again as every proof I have is against everything that the branch and the company claims. He then tells me he can waive off the $100 charge, provided I don’t give them a bad review. I tell him I have this call recorded and will do everything it takes to make sure people know what a crappy rental agency hertz really is and hang up. The next three days, I get a $100/ day charge on my credit card from hertz (check for misc charges on the statement). I had to call my credit card company and explain to them about what happened and have them deal with it.
February 28 · Vishnu KrishnanI wish I had read the reviews before booking with this rental agency. I needed a rental car and my insurance recommended this Hertz as they would give me a discount. Over the phone they quoted me $24 a day for a compact car, which was cheaper than what I was seeing online at other agencies which were around $28 a day. I confirmed with them I wouldn't be able to make it in until 5 because I was dealing with getting my car towed. When I arrived, there was one person working behind the counter and was helping another customer, I gave them grace and waited patiently despite my frustration after a long day. He was very kind, but once he was working with me, he said they did not have any compact cars and I would need to pay $30 a day. It was already 5pm and I was already there so I just accepted it. I had to extend my rental and was scheduled to drop it off on Friday but dropped it off a day early to hoping to save money. When I returned the vehicle, the guy working said he was unable to close the transaction because the guy who opened my contract had left for the day. I had to wait until the next day for a call back. When I booked, I was originally told the total would be $306 for the rental until Friday, I returned it a day early and was told it would be $345 with taxes and fees. Which was frustrating to hear as I was expecting a less amount.I feel like a was taken advantage of as I was already in a vulnerable situation with my car.I wish I could do more than just write a review, but if I can save someone the trouble, I would recommend not coming to this rental location.
February 28 · Stephanie BrownReps have a pleasant attitude when renting a car, but it seems like they're always short-staffed at this agency office. I had to take a larger car and pay 17% more for it because the car I reserved wasn't available; I was constantly harassed by another off-shore team even though I constantly kept the local agency updated of the rental status.I reserved a compact rental replacement in the morning, arrived in the morning, but it seemed like there was only one rental agent, and they didn't have a compact rental that I reserved. There was only one other customer reserving a car when I arrived, but it still took about an hour to rent the car, and I had to go to work. When I requested that they at least honor the price that I reserved the car for - the compact car price, they refused, and basically said I had to take the full-size car at the full-size car price. I was stuck - no options - had to go to work, my personal car was in the body shop, and I was just dropped off to pick up the compact size rental that I reserved. If Hertz does not have a compact car available - it shouldn't let customers reserve one. If Hertz does not have a compact car for some unexpected reason, one that it allowed a customer to reserve, it shouldn't charge the customer a higher price - essentially holding the customer accountable for whatever issue Hertz experienced. If Hertz is telling customers that it has compact cars available when it knows it doesn't - it is a bait and switch situation - unethical. Then I followed up - calling in regularly to notify the local agency if I needed to extend the rental, because the body shop is taking longer than expected - waiting for the insurance company to approve a supplement, or because a part was unavailable to the shop for a short time. But Herz has another off-shore team calling and harassing me. They once called the same day after I had already called the local agency notifying that the car had to be extended. I even asked if the local agency had notes on the contract - and they could see the notes about the extension and asking for the rate I reserved. I asked the off-shore team to call the local office if they needed information, and - after multiple back and forth discussions - they said they "would help me" by calling the local office instead of me. I asked for managers to call me back, from both offices, and none did.If I knew that I would have this type of experience with Hertz, I would have just rented the car from the horrible rental agency that the insurance company contracts with and pays directly.
