★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1THEY ARE NOT CHECKING THE CARS AT THIS LOCATION!I have been a loyal Hertz member for years and have loved my experiences with Hertz, especially at airports like ABQ and DCA, where Gold members have more choices. My experiences with Hertz at DCA, however, have been less than satisfactory lately.Twice now, I have picked up cars at the DCA Hertz location that have had issues. Last month, the display on my rented Jeep went out, forcing me to look at my phone for guidance - very dangerous. The staff questioned me, and the call I made to support was not in the system. This month, my rented Nissan Rogue lit up, indicating that it "needed service and oil." I had to stop, check the oil, then go to a gas station and buy more oil, and then go to a hardware store to pick up a wrench to open the oil gasket (which was not that easy to find!). (I'm thinking: "Why am I having to do this one day into my trip?") Then the "Service Due Now" light went on. I was told to drive to the nearest airport to exchange the car, a 7-hour excursion.While driving the car I had exchanged for a Nissan (a Chevrolet Exposition), a sign lit up indicating that it needed an oil change. I have learned to quickly deal with cars with oil issues. I had thought to extend the rental, but I realized I had to head back right away.WHEN I returned the car, I was told the. Manager WASN'T AROUND". Okay- what does that even mean?I wrote a letter during the trip to Hertz, and then one following my return. I have not heard back from anyone.The days I spent dealing with these issues not only cost me time and money, but also meant that I couldn't complete a massive biography/art project I had rented the car to work on.No one should have to replace their car due to oil or display problems —things that can easily be avoided.Simply put, I'm not alone in this experience. This just seems beyond coincidence. Something is going on where the cars aren't being thoroughly checked. Furthermore, the staff is less than helpful and downright petulant.

The latest that I could create the reservation for was 10 PM I called a representative and they confirmed that that airport location would stay open up to two hours past 10 o’clock based on flight times and that I would not have a problem getting my car. I prepaid and submitted all the information needed so that I could skip the counter and go directly to my vehicle when I arrived at the airport. I was not sure where the big sign was that was supposed to have my name and stall number, so I went up to the counter and asked. She informed me that they were all out of vehicles. I told her I had already prepaid and had a reservation and she just looked at me and said we are all out of vehicles. The lady sitting behind the counter did not apologize or have any empathy at all for my situation she truly could have cared less about the information she was giving me. We were flying in for my daughter’s soccer tournament. She had a game the next morning and this is now 11:30pm. All the other rental car agencies at the airport were sold out. I had to Uber to my hotel which was 45 minutes away. The lady told me to come back tomorrow and that they would have cars.The next morning, my plan was to Uber back to the airport in between my daughter soccer games . However, I called the Hertz customer service line 1st to find out if there was a closer location to where I was to pick up a car (there wasn’t) so then I wanted to confirm that once I got there that they would in fact have a car waiting for me. The lady told me no the location did not have any cars today either. I told her that all the other rental agencies were also sold out and asked her what I was supposed to do. She had no answer. She had to “check” with her manager to see if she could cancel my reservation??? When she came back on the line she told me that it had been canceled and asked if she could help me rebook a car. Ummm how are you going to help me rebook a car when you don’t have any vehicles?? I was in a different state with my daughter at a soccer tournament, thankfully, I was able to rely on other parents to help get us around until I got a rental car through TURO. I will never again rent through Hertz.

Customer service was completely useless. Ended up using Uber to the most in my entire trip. Returned the vehicle as is on the end of my trip to Washington DC Airport drop-off.
July 14 · MA ShariefThe first car we went to had a broken mirror switch; unable to adjust mirrors. We unloaded and went to a different car, which smelled like cigarette smoke. We unloaded again. The third car had a tire pressure low warning light. And there were no upgrade vehicles available.The staff left us to struggle with this. They seemed disorganized.These issues should have been picked up by the cleaning and prep crew. It's not being done.This is the second negative experience in a row that we've had. Hertz used to be the best, now I'm afraid Hertz no longer earns that accolade.

This is the second consecutive Hertz rental where no cars were available even though I had checked in in advance and had presidents circle status. Return was also chaotic as the line of cars stretched all the way back to the entrance to the garage. If I have to rent in DC again, I will definitely look to a different company. Hertz has traditionally provided excellent customer service to Gold and Preaidents circle members, but the quality of cars have gone downhill when they are available at all.
