NextCar Introduce
When traveling to or moving around the vast Los Angeles area, securing reliable transportation is often the first step to a successful California experience. NextCar, operating near the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) corridor, is a car rental agency dedicated to serving both local users and out-of-state visitors. The agency's commitment is to offer a diverse fleet of well-maintained vehicles, from compact cars ideal for navigating city traffic to spacious SUVs suitable for a California road trip. However, like many rental businesses in the highly trafficked LAX area, the process involves distinct steps and strict adherence to documentation requirements, which customers must be aware of to ensure a seamless experience.
The tone of their operation balances friendly service with stringent policy enforcement. As evidenced by a dedicated staff member, excellent customer service exists and can greatly enhance the start of a trip. Simultaneously, the company has detailed rules regarding insurance verification and documentation, particularly for out-of-state renters, which are critical to follow to avoid unexpected additional charges. For local Californians and visitors alike, understanding the logistics of picking up the car and the specific documentation required is the key to a positive rental outcome with this agency.

The NextCar location at 5250 W Century Blvd is strategically placed within the primary commercial and hotel zone surrounding LAX, making it easily accessible for customers arriving by air. Century Boulevard is a major access road for the airport and connects quickly to the 405 freeway, which is essential for travel across Southern California. This proximity to a major travel hub is a significant advantage for users looking to pick up their vehicle promptly after landing.
Accessibility to the rental office itself is a multi-step process for airport arrivals. Customers must first utilize the free LAX shuttles to the airport's designated 'Off-Airport Rental Car Waiting Area'—often involving an initial ride on the LAX Economy Parking Shuttle (Shuttle E). From there, a dedicated NextCar/Priceless shuttle picks up renters and transports them to the physical office location. This process requires patience and allowing extra time, as noted by customer feedback. The agency does, however, ensure physical accessibility for all patrons by providing a wheelchair accessible parking lot at their location. This feature ensures customers with mobility challenges have reserved, convenient parking access when returning their vehicle or arriving by private transport.
NextCar, as a car rental agency, offers a range of services designed to meet diverse travel needs, all backed by specific transactional and operational features:
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: The agency offers various car types, typically ranging from cost-effective compact and economy cars to full-size sedans and SUVs, ensuring a suitable vehicle for city driving, business travel, or longer road trips.
- Dedicated Shuttle Service: They provide a complimentary shuttle service from the LAX Economy Parking area/Remote Rental Car Depot to the rental office for customer pick-up and drop-off, though specific operating hours apply.
- Flexible Payment Options: NextCar accepts major credit cards and bank-issued debit cards for transactions, providing financial flexibility for a wide range of customers.
- NFC Mobile Payments: For modern convenience, the agency accepts Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile payments, allowing for quick, contactless processing at the counter.
- Toll Pass Option: Customers are advised to utilize the Toll Pass option (often costing around $25) to cover California express lane and toll road charges. This feature allows tolls to be directly charged to the rental card, avoiding potentially costly violation fees and administrative penalties.
- Mandatory Insurance Verification: Renters are strictly required to provide proof of personal full-coverage insurance (Collision and Liability) that transfers to the rental vehicle. For out-of-state renters using personal insurance, a full-page copy of the insurance declaration page is necessary—the insurance card alone is insufficient.
- Pre-existing Damage Protocol: Customers are encouraged to document the vehicle's condition, including taking photos and videos of all sides and the dashboard, to protect against being charged for pre-existing damage, such as on the bumper.
Key highlights and features of choosing NextCar are often related to the detailed policies and the staff who execute them:
- Strategic LAX-Adjacent Location: Situated in the main LAX-adjacent hotel district on W Century Blvd, it offers convenience for travelers flying into the region.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking: The facility provides a dedicated wheelchair accessible parking lot, ensuring ease of access for customers with mobility needs.
- Modern and Flexible Payments: Acceptance of credit cards, bank-issued debit cards, and NFC mobile payments offers significant transactional convenience.
- Pre-Emptive Toll Management: The optional Toll Pass feature is a critical highlight for driving in California, where express lanes and toll roads are common, protecting the renter from high fines and administrative fees.
- Positive Shuttle Service Experience: Individual staff, like the shuttle driver Pancho Jose mentioned in reviews, provide excellent, friendly, and attentive customer service, setting a positive tone for the rental process.
For a California resident or visitor looking for a rental near LAX, NextCar is worth choosing for its Convenient Location, Fleet Diversity, and Proactive Toll Management. The strategic placement on Century Boulevard and the shuttle system make it a viable airport-area option. The ability to use a Toll Pass to seamlessly manage local toll roads and the flexibility of accepting both debit and credit cards are significant advantages over some competitors.
However, potential renters must enter the process with extreme caution and thorough preparation. The most critical aspect to remember is to read and follow the fine print meticulously. The documented issue of giving away pre-paid, reserved cars is a severe failure of operational reliability and customer trust. A renter should be prepared for potential delays and have a backup plan. Furthermore, out-of-state renters must take seriously the requirement to bring a full-page insurance declaration page to avoid the potentially "more than double" cost of purchasing the agency's insurance. To safeguard against disputes, following the advice of one satisfied customer—documenting the entire vehicle's condition with photos and video—is a non-negotiable step to protect against claims of pre-existing damage. While the friendly shuttle service can begin the trip positively, a renter’s preparedness at the counter is paramount to successfully navigating the rental process at this location.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I rented Toyota Camry from NextCar in LA for 12 days, and my experience was fully positive: car was in good order, everything went as advertised, no unexpected charges. My advice to out-of-state renters that will help you avoid problems and have positive experience:1. If you’re using your own insurance rather than buying it from NextCar, make sure to bring full page copy of your insurance declaration page. Insurance card alone is not sufficient, you would have to buy insurance to be able to rent if this is all you brought. That can more than double the cost.2. Make sure to take walk around video Of the car, and photos of all sides and inside and dashboard. When I was returning, I was asked about damage on the bottom of the front bumper, and I was able to show on photos that the damage was pre-Existing3. Make sure to allow plenty of time for car pick up and return. You will have to take free airport shuttle to the airport cars lot, and then Next car shuttle will pick you up and drive you to the location outside of the airport. Make sure you read instructions that you will get while booking your rentals.4. If you are out of state and planning to use tollways or express lines, Make sure to activate so called Toll Pass option while picking up your car. It is worth $25 it costs to avoid incurring violation fees that can add up to significantly more than this amount. As a result of this option, tolls will simply be charged to the same credit card that you used for rental about a month later and no additional fees apply.
June 29 · Sergey BirgerPancho Jose the shuttle driver was awesome!! He was friendly, attentive, and had excellent service. Thus when we arrived at the office to retrieve the car we reserved I was in a good mood and looking forward to continuing the process. The actual renting a car process is awful though! DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY! They gave our reserved car away even though we prepaid for the car and then they said we needed to read the fine print. What?! How do you give away a car thats reserved and already paid for in full? The group I was traveling with ended up having to request a refund and then find a new rental car sevice while we sat in their office with all of our luggage after an already long day of traveling, thus delaying the rest of our trip.We weren't the only ones with this problem either. Other patrons present were also having the same problem of apparently paying for the reservation and the company giving their car away. How is this acceptable for a rental company to take the payment but not hold a vehicle for you? Nor add any recourse of sending you to another company or calling a partner to provide a vehicle?Pancho Jose has 5 star customer service. So I truly was surprised that the actual office for NextCar/Priceless was so unprofessional and unreliable. I gave the company 1 star only because I cannot give the company 0 stars.
April 24 · Amber JonesI recently had a very disappointing experience with NextCar Rental. While I want to highlight that the shuttle driver from the airport to the rental location was genuinely kind, helpful, and attentive to details, the overall service at the rental desk was far from satisfactory.I ended up spending over an hour just to get my car, which was incredibly frustrating. To make matters worse, I was unexpectedly charged $500 before even releasing the car, and I was only informed of this charge late at night around 11:00 pm. Later, I was asked to go outside with my kids to take pictures of the car — a request that I found quite unreasonable and unprofessional. If they truly cared about their customers, they would have taken the time to walk around the vehicle with us, inspecting the condition together and reaching a mutual understanding. Unfortunately, this was not the case, and the entire experience left me very dissatisfied.I hope NextCar Rental can improve their customer service and transparency in the future.
July 19 · Christiana AddeimaanuNo response on below email to Nextcar. They over charged me.Dear NextCar Accounting Team,I am writing regarding my recent rental from LAX with NextCar (Aug 22–30). I noticed three separate charges on my credit card ending with 7725 as shown in the attached screenshot:One pending charge $200Two posted charges of $110 and $44.57At the time of booking, I had already prepaid for the full 8-day rental, which is also reflected in my booking confirmation (attached). Given that, I do not understand why these additional charges were applied to my credit card.I kindly request a full refund of $110 + $44.57, as these charges appear to be incorrect. If this issue is not resolved promptly, I will have no choice but to contact my credit card company to dispute these charges. Please review and confirm when the refund will be processed.Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
September 24 · Ram MundraI would give ZERO stars if I could!!!! They told me the car was full of fuel, it had 279mi till empty. When I filled, it filled to 413mi. Till empty!!! The windshield was so dirty I could hardly see out of it, had to pull over and buy stuff to clean it on the inside. Then when I returned the car they said they would have to charge me because there was sand on the back seat, charged me 200 dollars! (Amazingly the same amount as my deposit)! I reserved a "mid sized suv" I got a Nissan kick not even comparable in size to the Santa Fe they said I was renting! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY....I WONT SAVE YOU MONEY!!!
