SURPRISE!We got off the plane in the middle of the afternoon and went to the Europcar station to get our car for the week : our name wasn’t on their list!! They made us wait there for about 45 min, they came back, still no solution for us. We contacted the company with our reservation number, the company talked to the local stand, nothing to do, they didn’t have our reservation on their list.We literally found ourselves at the airport with no car for our week on the island. We decided to take a cab to the office a few miles down the airport road. When we got there, they asked us what we were doing there! Incredible, but true 🤬.They drove us back to the airport in their shuttle and we then tried every car rental companies in the hall to find another car. There were no more cars available!Up until a woman at the AVIS stand called us back and offered us a car that was supposed to be picked up in the morning. We finally had that car for our vacations.So be aware not to reserve with AutoEurope if you go to Curaçao this year. The company finally refunded us, but we could have seriously found ourselves in trouble for a week.This very sad because you usually had very good experiences with Auto Europe in our other trips, especially in Europe. We are going to Italy this fall and we chose Discovery Cars, this time.
August 25 · Martine LavarièreI used Auto Europe to book a car in Croatia, and I prepaid the rental. The rental itself was easy and seamless, however when I got the final invoice I was charged the full amount from the actual rental company, without the prepaid amount deducted.Contacting the rental company was impossible, seems they never answer their phone. I raised a post-rental incident with Auto Europe as instructed, and after a week received an email that this will take a MINIMUM of 8 weeks. Why so long? I provided my CC statement showing the prepaid amount and Sixt's final invoice, yet I have to wait 2 months (maybe longer) to get a refund?If you have the option, do not pre-pay.
October 09 · DarwinI have mixed reviews about this place. First, I messed up my booking days and realized the day before. I spoke with a lovely lady that helped me actually find the same kind of vehicle with a 30$ refund (since the prices are live they can vary a lot). My only mixed review is that it is not put on the rental car voucher about needing a valid licence for 2 years. I read through the terms and conditions and it did not include this. Since I moved states and got a new licence 1.5 years earlier, the company would not let me rent the car and I lost the whole rental amount. I really wish something like this would be as emphasized as the insurance policies that are put on the confirmation emails. Also, when you google what you need as an American to rent a car in the UK it states to be over 25 and a valid drivers licence for a year. This confusion cost me a lot of money and I hope they can make it more clear on their end.
October 16 · Rachel LietzThis is the worst “customer service” experience I’ve had with a travel booking company.My case was handled by Alex from Auto Europe’s customer service, and I was shocked at how little effort was made to defend a paying customer’s rights.I booked a Peugeot 2008 over two months in advance, prepaid USD $705. At pickup, Europcar in Milan Malpensa claimed “no car available” and offered only a much smaller Fiat 600.They pushed me to pay €396.40 to “upgrade” to a Jeep Avenger — later I found it’s a platform-sharing twin of the Fiat 600, with the same small trunk space. Alex saw “no problem” with this practice.I showed photographic evidence that the Europcar agent crossed out the €396.40 on the contract and promised a total of €1,038.59 (including deposit), yet the first invoice charged €1,582.90 at the full daily rate. Alex still refused to challenge Europcar over this obvious deception.When I asked if in a future similar scam I could refuse the upsell and walk away for a refund, Alex’s answer was non-refundable — meaning accept the overcharge or lose all your money.If Auto Europe can’t (or won’t) protect customers from clear fraud by their partners, what’s the point of booking through them? I’ve gone from recommending Auto Europe to actively warning others in every platform I can — including here on Google Maps.
August 26 · Tsai EricExtremely disappointed by my experience with this company. I rented a car to be collected in Malaga Airport in August. When I arrived to collect the car from the airport I was informed that I could not collect the car because I only had a Canadian license and not an International Drivers License (IDL). In fairness, I have been directed to the part of the contract that states all non-European drivers must present an IDL. However, I also note that the contract states that an IDL MAY be required. Nor does the confirmation email state that an IDL is required.It is also worth noting that Auto Europe claims to work with multiple partners including Goldcar and SIXT. Goldcar the organization I was unfortunate enough to be linked with required an IDL while SIXT the organization that I eventually rented a car from does not.Almost two months and much correspondence later I've lost $766. In sum, don't use this company - use another. Woeful
