Enterprise Rent-A-Car Introduce
For residents of Charles Town and the surrounding Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, the Enterprise Rent-A-Car located at 765 E Washington St is a primary local resource for personal and commercial transportation. As a dedicated Car rental agency and Van rental agency, this branch aims to provide reliable vehicles for various needs, whether you require a temporary car due to repairs, a spacious van for a group outing, or a vehicle for an essential business trip within the Mountain State.
This Charles Town location proudly identifies as a women-owned business, demonstrating a commitment to local, diverse ownership within the West Virginia business landscape. The branch also offers valuable perks like active military discounts, extending appreciation to the service members in the region.
However, users of this location should be mindful of the operational experiences shared by some local customers. While the staff has demonstrated excellent customer service—one customer praised an employee named 'Ethan' for being "absolutely amazing" and going "out of his way" to secure a rental despite a fully booked lot—other reviews point to significant issues with vehicle availability and readiness. Another customer noted multiple negative experiences, including vans with expired state inspections from another state (Virginia) and reservations for specific vehicle types (like trucks or vans) not being honored or resulting in substantial delays.
The feedback suggests that while the individual customer service can be exemplary, particularly in stressful, immediate need scenarios, the internal logistics and fleet management for specialized vehicles (vans and trucks) may sometimes present challenges. It is highly recommended for West Virginia customers planning a trip that hinges on a specific vehicle type or size to call the Charles Town office directly well in advance to confirm and re-confirm the reservation and vehicle readiness.
The overall local consensus is split: excellent staff professionalism, but potential operational shortcomings. This makes communication paramount for a successful rental experience at this Enterprise branch.
The Charles Town Enterprise location is conveniently situated at 765 E Washington St, making it easily accessible for residents across Jefferson County and those traveling from nearby areas like Harpers Ferry, Ranson, and even across the state line into Maryland or Virginia. Being on a major street, it is a straightforward destination for customers needing to pick up or drop off a vehicle.
Understanding the importance of serving all community members, the facility is equipped with features designed for ease of use:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance: The main doorway and pathways into the rental office are designed to be accessible for individuals using wheelchairs or other mobility aids.
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot: Dedicated, clearly marked parking spaces are provided to ensure close and convenient access to the building.
The operating hours are generally consistent throughout the week, catering to the local community's schedule. They are typically open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the location being closed on Sundays. Customers should note the Saturday half-day schedule when planning weekend returns, though after-hours returns are often possible—it is advisable to check the specific policy with the office team.
As a local hub for mobility solutions, the Charles Town Enterprise branch provides a comprehensive suite of rental services tailored to a diverse customer base, from insurance replacements to leisure travel:
- Passenger Car Rental: A full range of vehicles is typically available, from economical compact cars ideal for local commuting and fuel efficiency to mid-size, full-size sedans, and SUVs (including compact and mid-size varieties) for family trips across West Virginia and beyond.
- Van and Truck Rental Services: The facility functions as a Van rental agency, offering minivans (7-passenger) and larger passenger vans (12- and 15-passenger) for group transportation, as well as light-duty pickup trucks and cargo vans for moving or commercial use.
- Insurance and Accident Replacement: Working closely with insurance companies, the branch facilitates vehicle replacement rentals for customers whose personal vehicles are undergoing repairs.
- Local Customer Pick-Up: To assist customers who do not have a ride to the office, the branch typically offers a free local pick-up service. Customers must call ahead to confirm the service area and scheduling.
- Flexible Payment Options: Offering convenient transactions by accepting all major forms of payment, including Credit cards, Debit cards, and NFC mobile payments.
- Short-Term and Long-Term Rentals: Vehicles are available for daily, weekly, or extended monthly rentals, accommodating both quick errands and long-duration needs.
Several key features make the Charles Town Enterprise location a notable option for West Virginia renters, alongside points of caution based on customer reports:
- Women-Owned Leadership: The location's status as a women-owned business is a key feature, showcasing local female entrepreneurship and offering customers a choice to support a diverse business model.
- Active Military Support: Providing active military discounts is a valued highlight, giving back to the community of service members in the region.
- Dedicated Customer Service: Reviews frequently praise the exceptional demeanor and problem-solving efforts of specific front-line staff members who work hard to mitigate stressful situations, even when the fleet is tight.
- Accessibility Focus: The presence of a Wheelchair accessible entrance and a Wheelchair accessible parking lot ensures the facility is equipped to serve all local residents.
- Caveat on Specific Reservations: Based on customer feedback, those requiring a specific vehicle type (especially vans or trucks) should exercise caution and ensure re-confirmation, as inventory and reservation holding may be inconsistent. Issues noted include vehicles with expired inspections from other states and disputes over reservation availability.
For all reservation inquiries, confirmation of vehicle class availability (particularly for vans and trucks), or to arrange a customer pick-up in the Charles Town area, West Virginia residents should contact the branch directly using the details below. Direct communication is the best way to ensure a smooth rental experience.

For many West Virginia residents, the Charles Town Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a geographically essential local option, often being the only rental agency of its type in the immediate vicinity. Its appeal is rooted in its accessible E Washington Street location, its support for the local community as a women-owned business, and the tangible benefit of active military discounts. These highlights, combined with the proven dedication of certain staff members—who have been lauded for their professional demeanor during last-minute, high-stress scenarios—make it a strong choice for routine car rentals and insurance replacement needs.
However, what is worth choosing is also about knowing what to expect. If your rental requirement is straightforward—say, a small or mid-size sedan for a few days—this location's core service is generally reliable. The staff's willingness to communicate and find solutions, even if it involves coordinating with other locations, is a huge positive for customers in a jam.
Crucially, local customers must be highly proactive when needing specialized vehicles like minivans, 15-passenger vans, or pickup trucks. The reported instances of unreliability in holding specific reservations, coupled with the serious ethical lapse of dispensing a vehicle with an expired inspection, demand that customers perform their own thorough walk-around inspection and confirm all vehicle details *before* leaving the lot. If your trip plans are non-negotiable or time-sensitive and require a specific larger vehicle, it would be prudent to follow the advice of the dissatisfied customer and consider an alternate Enterprise location nearby, even if it requires a slightly longer drive into neighboring communities in West Virginia or nearby states, to guarantee preparedness and vehicle quality.
Ultimately, the Charles Town Enterprise is a high-potential local provider with a friendly face, but the user must be an active participant in the rental process to ensure the desired outcome, especially for specialized equipment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We got hit by a car at 4:30 on a Friday and we had to rush over before close to see about a rental. They didn't have anything available for today but Ethan at the front desk was absolutely amazing. Excellent customer service and went out of his way to let me know he scheduled us for tomorrow and will keep in contact with all their locations in the area to try to get me into a rental as soon as possible. His professionalism in a stressful situation was amazing and even though we didn't get a rental at the time I would definitely recommend this location for customer service alone.
September 12 · Emily SwansonI have rented from this Enterprise location 2 (and attempted 3rd) time this year and every single time there has been some sort of issue ranging from minor things to complete ethical negligence. If you are planning a trip that requires a specific vehicle type, do not use this location. They will not hold reservations for specific vehicles, or they will tell you they will, but won't. I have attached screenshots of voicemails from two of the three times I attempted to rent either a van or a truck, that prove their lack of preparedness. For the van I arrived several hours early after listening to the voicemail and was able to secure one before one of the other patrons they overbooked the van for could. Unfortunately after I got home to pack, it became evident that the van had an EXPIRED INSPECTION in Virginia. (I rented the vehicle on May 3rd, Inspection expired in April; see pic) When I reached out to the office they said that I could keep the vehicle or return it but there was no replacement van and unfortunately I required a vehicle with 7 seats for the trip. On the second occurrence (May 11th) I attempted to rent a truck, when I arrived at Enterprise at my appointment time, I was told that no truck was available and that I would have to wait several hours as one would arrive from another location in Virginia. This delayed my trip and made other arrangements I had that day difficult to deal with. Once I did retrieve the truck, low and behold there was a leak/nail in one of the tires. Also pictured, and note the lack of tread on the tire as well. Finally last Friday I once again attempted to rent a truck. Knowing the previous issues that had occurred, I arrived 40 minutes early. My plans had actually changed and a truck was no longer needed for my trip. When I arrived I told David that I no longer needed a truck and asked what else was available. The only other vehicle was a Jeep waggoneer that was going to cost an additional 400 dollars. At that I opted to just retain the existing rental and keep the truck, to which BIG SURPRISE, there was no truck available. At that an argument ensued where David clearly (due to me mentioning a truck was no longer needed) thought he would be able to get me to pay an extra 400 dollars for the waggoneer and I was not having it. After a back and forth where David was visibly getting angry, he finally agreed to honor the original cost of the rental, only if I return at the appointment time (30 minutes later). My wife and I felt this was a ridiculous request after everything that we had been through with the total incompetence of this location, and further argued that that was pointless to which David responded that he did not want our business and asked us to leave. Finally to top it all off, I still received a voicemail about the rental even after this whole altercation occurred, further indicating how inept David is at his job. David and his crew have been consistently terrible at managing this Enterprise location, and they know they can get away with it because they are the only rental company located in Charles Town. Do yourself a favor and take the trip to another location even if it means a 15-30 minute drive, do not try to plan a trip around the ridiculousness of this Enterprise location. (Just a petty jab, the office smells like cat urine).
September 15 · Michael wilsonThis location is a train wreck and they definitely don’t have enough vehicles to take care of the reservations they already booked in advance! They tried hard two days before my pick up to get me to chg my reservation because they didn’t have the Premium vehicle I ordered more than a week in advance. I refused because the minute I modify the reservation, I lose the better price that they didn’t want to honor! My Premium was like a Nissan Maxima! After I got there the young girl actually argued with me (the customer) that a Versa was similar to a Maxima! Guess she thought I got to be 78 by being stupid? I worked at Hertz for a year and know all the BS they try to give you when they want you to cancel because they can get much more money from another customer next to me, that they have nothing for them on the lot currently and praying that someone will return anything at all early!!! They also forgot to close my rental out the night before and I had to call 20 hrs later as I had no contact and no receipt that was promised to have been emailed upon return! Ethan finally saw everything the other crew forgot and quickly fixed everything in a few minutes. Ethan is a Rock Star!!! Ty Ethan!
September 12 · Donald W. SommerThe staff was professional and very helpful. I was using a debit card as payment. They needed additional information and advised me how to obtain it without leaving the office all within 30 minutes. I was very impressed with the help I received. I was very happy with the car I drove away in.
June 20 · Carol JonesWe had a great rental. While my car was in the shop I drove a 2024 Hyundai Tucson. The vehicle was clean and only 11 k miles. When I need a rental again I am coming here. Thanks
