American Lease Introduce
For many hardworking individuals in New York City, particularly those earning a living through rideshare services like Uber and Via, securing a reliable, commercially-ready vehicle is essential. American Lease, a car rental agency operating in the Bronx, is one of the specialized providers catering primarily to this sector, offering vehicles that are registered and insured in accordance with New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) standards. They recognize the unique needs of TLC drivers, providing a specific fleet of cars intended for use on various rideshare and for-hire vehicle (FHV) platforms across the five boroughs.
The company has established itself as a key player in the TLC rental market in NYC, having partnered with major rideshare companies since the early days of their operation in the city. Their business model revolves around providing the necessary tools—the vehicles—for drivers to get on the road quickly and efficiently. This focus means their services are tailored to the regulatory and operational demands of the NYC rideshare ecosystem, distinguishing them from traditional, general-use car rental agencies.
While their specialization is a highlight, it is important for prospective and current customers to have a comprehensive and realistic view of the service. Reports and reviews from the community have highlighted significant challenges, particularly regarding customer service, perceived lack of empathy for drivers' reliance on the cars for their livelihood, and operational issues like long wait times for vehicle assignments. These concerns suggest that while the company addresses a vital need for TLC-ready cars, drivers should be prepared for a potentially demanding experience.
Finding a rental company that understands the TLC environment is crucial in New York, where regulations are strict and compliance is mandatory. American Lease addresses this by ensuring their fleet is "TLC-Ready," meaning the vehicles come with the required TLC plates and insurance coverage, aiming to simplify the process for drivers who want to start earning without the administrative burden of preparing a personal vehicle for commercial use.
Securing an appropriate vehicle is only the first step; the reliability of the company's support infrastructure—including maintenance and payment options—is equally important to maintain a consistent income stream. American Lease provides specific solutions to these needs, which we will detail in the following sections, giving New York drivers the full picture.
The company also shows an interest in the evolving landscape of transportation in New York City by incorporating electric vehicles (EVs) into their fleet, such as the Fisker Ocean and Toyota BZ4X. This move aligns with city initiatives and offers drivers an opportunity to operate newer, potentially more fuel-efficient cars, though drivers should research the specific infrastructure challenges of operating EVs in NYC.
The primary location for American Lease that is most relevant to the Bronx and surrounding NYC areas is situated at:
1225 Randall Ave, Bronx, NY 10474, USA
This location positions the company to serve the large population of rideshare drivers residing in or operating out of the Bronx, Queens, and other parts of New York City. Its positioning within the Bronx makes it a central and accessible hub for vehicle pick-up, drop-off, and associated services such as payments and accident reporting.
Accessibility is a stated priority, with the facility offering a wheelchair accessible entrance. This feature is vital not just for general customer accommodation but also for ensuring the facility is fully accessible to TLC drivers who may be renting a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) or who have mobility challenges themselves. This adherence to accessibility standards is a key detail for a business serving the public transportation sector.
It is worth noting that the company’s business model often requires in-person interaction for vehicle assignment, maintenance, and administrative issues, as evidenced by customer feedback citing long queues. Therefore, understanding the site’s logistics and operational hours (which can vary and should be confirmed directly) is critical for any driver planning a visit.
American Lease is dedicated to meeting the operational needs of New York’s TLC-licensed drivers. Their services are designed to minimize the barriers to entry for commercial driving:
- TLC-Ready Vehicle Rentals: Providing a fleet of vehicles fully registered and insured in compliance with NYC TLC standards, making them immediately eligible for platforms like Uber, Lyft, and Via.
- Lease-to-Own Options: In addition to rentals, they also offer leasing programs for drivers looking for a path to vehicle ownership.
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: The fleet typically includes common rideshare vehicles such as the Toyota Camry and Highlander, as well as a growing selection of Electric Vehicles (EVs) like the Fisker Ocean and Toyota BZ4X.
- Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV) Rental: Specifically offering vehicles like the Wheelchair Accessible Van, which enables drivers to qualify for higher fares on WAV trips mandated by city regulations.
- Preventative Maintenance: Maintenance is typically included for rental vehicles, which is a major benefit for drivers, as it reduces the financial and logistical burden of upkeep. Drivers of lease-to-own vehicles are typically responsible for their own maintenance.
- Accident Reporting and Deductible Management: Offering a defined collision deductible policy and a deductible waiver option for an additional weekly fee, which is a key consideration for commercial driving insurance.
- Flexible Payment Options: Accepting various payment methods, including major Credit Cards and Debit Cards, with cash payment centers available at specific 24/7 gas station locations in the Bronx and Brooklyn.
- Driver App (DriveALM): A dedicated mobile application for booking cars, accessing vehicle documents, reporting accidents, making payments, and viewing payment history.
- Rideshare Platform Sign-Up Assistance: Providing Uber and Via representatives in their office to help activate the newly rented or leased vehicle on the respective apps.
The key features of American Lease stem from its specialization in the NYC commercial driver market:
- Exclusive Focus on TLC Drivers: Unlike general rental companies, American Lease’s entire operation is geared toward the licensing, insurance, and compliance needs of NYC's for-hire vehicle operators.
- Inclusion of TLC Insurance and Plates: The rental price includes the mandatory TLC insurance and plates, which simplifies the onboarding process and eliminates a major administrative hurdle for drivers.
- Unlimited Mileage (for specific rental types): A critical feature for high-mileage commercial drivers, ensuring they can operate freely across the NYC metropolitan area without worrying about mileage surcharges.
- Commitment to EV Fleet Expansion: Active deployment of electric and hybrid vehicles, supporting drivers interested in a greener, potentially lower-operating-cost option.
- Multiple Payment and Service Locations: The availability of 24/7 cash payment centers outside of the main office (e.g., at specific gas stations in the Bronx and Brooklyn) provides essential convenience for drivers working non-traditional hours.
- Provision of Basic Maintenance: For rental agreements, the inclusion of basic maintenance ensures vehicles remain road-ready and compliant with safety standards.
- Wheelchair Accessibility: The main office entrance is wheelchair accessible, ensuring the facility is compliant with accessibility standards and accommodating to all customers.
For drivers located in New York, particularly in the Bronx region, the main physical location and contact number for administrative and operational purposes are:
Address: 1225 Randall Ave, Bronx, NY 10474, USA
Phone: The general number for the company should be verified through the official website, as multiple departments (sales, payments, accident reporting) may have different direct lines. Drivers are also encouraged to use the dedicated ALM Driver App for specific inquiries and service requests.
It is advised that drivers confirm office hours and appointment procedures before visiting the Randall Ave location, as customer reviews suggest high demand can lead to significant wait times.
For a rideshare driver in New York City, American Lease's primary value proposition is its provision of a vehicle that is, from day one, 100% compliant with TLC regulations. The challenge of securing a car, acquiring TLC plates, and obtaining the necessary commercial insurance is completely circumvented through their all-inclusive rental product. This allows a driver to focus immediately on earning income, which is an invaluable benefit in a high-cost environment like NYC.
The inclusion of preventative maintenance for rental vehicles removes a major variable cost and unexpected headache for drivers, which is particularly beneficial for those operating older or high-mileage cars. Furthermore, the commitment to offering Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) is a significant advantage, enabling drivers to access a high-demand, higher-paying segment of the market and contribute to the city's accessibility goals.
However, an informed choice requires acknowledging the documented challenges. While the service provides a crucial tool, the trade-off may involve enduring poor customer service experiences, long waiting periods, and a high-volume, impersonal transaction process, as consistently reported in public feedback. Prospective drivers must weigh the essential benefit of a TLC-ready car against the risks of operational frustrations and a reportedly indifferent staff culture. It is an industry-specific decision where the necessity of a compliant vehicle often outweighs deficiencies in the customer experience. Drivers who value immediate compliance and a structured rental/lease-to-own pathway, and who are prepared to navigate potential service bottlenecks, may find American Lease to be a necessary, albeit complex, partner in their rideshare career in New York.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1If I could give zero stars, I would. AmericanLease takes full advantage of the fact that TLC drivers rely on them to make a living. They know people depend on their cars to put food on the table — and they use that power in the most brutal way imaginable. The staff treats drivers like they’re disposable. There’s no respect, no empathy, and no human decency in how they operate. It genuinely feels like they’ve built their business model on taking advantage of hardworking people who don’t have many other options.I understand that many of us need their services — that’s the worst part. They know you have no choice, and they use it against you. Whether it’s hidden fees, poor customer service, or the complete lack of understanding for people’s situations, the entire experience is exhausting and demeaning. This company might make a living off TLC drivers, but it’s clear they’ve forgotten that those same drivers are real people trying to survive. I wouldn’t recommend AmericanLease to anyone unless you’re prepared to be treated like your time and livelihood mean nothing
October 09 · GASSIT LLCThis place is a joke. 4 days my friends have been coming in to get a car. They don’t care about you even if you wait in line with 100 people in front of you to tell you. HOO CA I HEP YO. Oh sorry No CAR.No accountability no leadership. Have a system where you assign each car to an approved driver and have them pay upfront and have the car ready for them.If it’s cheap it’s too good to be true.
October 02 · Lucas KI had a great experience with Maria at American Lease. She provided excellent customer care and made the entire process of renting a car very smooth and easy. Maria is very professional, helpful, and truly goes above and beyond to assist. If you’re planning to rent a car from American Lease, I highly recommend you ask for Maria—she will take good care of you!
August 29 · Tashi GurungDo Not go to this a TLC AL rental! They are a liars! Also is bad services and attitude is very bad! Even Discrimination against us! I saw a lot of electric car in their company's garage, but they said we didn't have any EV cars available for rent today and asked me to come back tomorrow, and then day after day. What's going on? If you don't want to rent them, why do you keep coming? they office is a long way from my home; it takes four hours round trip by subway. in fact. they are playing games with us and they made hungry sales! Also the sellers cheat me to rent the high-priced gasoline Suv but I don’t like gasoline cars ! we have to Call 311 or City TLC to Complain for consumer rights and interests⚠️
October 02 · Coman CheungPeople at Long Island location are much nicer than the one in Bronx. It’s something in the air I think. Person made report was a nice person too. I truly appreciate him for being helpful. I have paid them for the whole week till Tuesday midnight and yet they have billed me for returning car which is completely their own doing. So basically they are making all the decisions but yet I have to take the responsibility cause it’s all about money at the end of the day and they don’t want to loose a penny on their side. Rather than paying me back for 5 days which I have paid them already. They are asking me to pay overdue balance which I have no idea where it came from while they said nothing about neither anyone at the office told me anything. I spent almost $70 to get home. Thanks to them as well. My life would have been much easier if they could have made me aware about it. But they don’t feel like it’s important to them. So basically they have no concerns or regards about people and their safety or anything. They just care about money. I really hope someone will file a complaint against your company cause this is not right. There are so much wrong in everything that you guys have done just solely based on my own experience alone.Don’t ever go there cause they do have cheap price which attract so many people but at the end of the day. It’s not worth it. Cause it’s not about money. It’s about respect that people must show toward others but I’m sorry to say they got none. You are just a number for them. They can penalized you for not even being wrong. It’s that easy for them and you can go to someone else right after or being in their office and you are approved the very next moment. So basically they are scamming people and taking advantage of them cause they feel like they can. There is nothing wrong to make decision who do you want to be partnered with but just don’t abuse them for not being wrong. It’s definitely not right.
