★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have to commend the outstanding customer service given to me by "Lou" at the counter at the Cleveland Airport on the evening of August 3rd, 2025. Something out of her control, she had a line of at least 30 people deep and the patience she displayed with the people who were upset about the long line was exceptional! I had the unfortunate experience of renting an Avis vehicle (Ford Expedition) out of Countryside IL and unbeknownst to me, about 200 miles into my trip and first stop for gas, I was shocked to see that I had a gash in the front passenger tire! Luckily I took pictures of the vehicle before I drove it out of the Countryside lot, and you can see the damage to the tire. This was missed by me at inspection, but how can Avis allow a vehicle to go out like this!! I'm no expert in "inspecting vehicles" Can you imagine a blowout on the highway! So now I had to deal with Avis customer service over the phone, and well you know how that goes. Good luck! After about 2 hang-ups, countless "key press" prompts, and speaking to 3 different people, I was told I could exchange the vehicle out at the closest Avis counter, which in my case was at the Cleveland Airport. This is where I encountered a 1 hour wait at the counter since Lou was the only person working. I'm sure this was not her fault, and people were upset. When it was my turn, she couldn't have been more patient and polite about my situation under her circumstances. A vehicle was swapped out with no hassle. I am concerned however with Avis because when I turned the vehicle in, you can tell there was ZERO concern given by the porter who took the car in, even after I showed him the gash in the tire! I just hope this vehicle was not re-circulated to someone else! What a liability for Avis! Regardless, it wasn't my best experience with Avis, but it was the least expensive option, and sometimes you get what you pay for (I've done Enterprise before). This post is specifically for the outstanding customer service given to me by someone physically, in person. Not over the phone. Thank you Lou at Cleveland Airport for your help and your patience! (Now if only Avis could somehow re-imburse me at least a little for the 1 hour wait at the counter, and 2 hour round trip drive from my hotel in Huron Oh to Cleveland Airport). Supposedly some sort of claim was filed out of the Countryside Avis location, but who knows how that will go since I have received ZERO response from anyone.
August 12 · Manuel HernandezAwful customer service, and the car was in disgusting condition. Hair everywhere, scratches on the car, dust and a bunch of trash in the car... overall just not a favorable experience. The car also smelled awful (like wet dog and sweat) and i had to drive 2 hours out of Cleveland in it. It's sad that a staff allows a brand new car to be treated this poorly... they are not protecting the Assets of AVis and the customers will be switching to other rental car companies. I will be choosing Hertz moving forward.
July 25 · Daniel RomI’m only giving 1 star because you can’t give 0. Our flight was delayed so we called and specifically asked if they would still be open when we landed. They said yes we have your flight info and monitor it and will wait for you to get here. We got to their lot and the security guard said they closed up and left 15 minutes before. We now have no car even though my card was charged $572 for a $280 reservation. There are 10 to 15 other people in the same boat as us now with no car trying to figure out what to do at now 1:00 AM.
June 26 · Lisa JordanDo better Avis! This location is obviously operating with a skeleton crew that is doing their best to help customers that are also left with minimal service support. Absurdly long line of over 2 hours long to pick up your rental with 1 agent working between several rental companies. Picking up and dropping off was complete disaster with incoming cars being directed though the one way exit. Cars were stacked up so the exit was only wide enough for one car so impossible to pass and exit. Those cars would then have nowhere else to go but to block the spaces the outgoing cars were trying to leave from. Returning the car was just as confusing with same conditions and only one person to help try to direct where to go while another tried their best to get cars into the lot and out of the way as quickly as possible. The employees had a generally positive and helpful attitude and were doing their best but you could tell they were left just as stranded as the customers. Do better for employees and customers Avis!
September 06 · heather stapletonWaited over an hour to get my car that I reserved. Only 2 people working behind the desk. One kept leaving and looked like they didn’t know what they were doing. Not friendly at all. Each customer in front of me took at least 20-30 minutes. Very slow. No sense of urgency. Customer in front of me was told to go to a location only to find out that there was no car there. Absolutely livid at this point. They told us in line there were no cars available only to find out once I finally got a car there were plenty of cars available. I only had my car for 2 days and my front drivers side tire had low tire pressure where it was almost flat. Come to find out it had been patched. I was never told there was a bad tire on the car. Customer service then asks me if I had a spare tire to put on. I was so upset asking them why should I change a tire with a spare when they gave me a faulty tire. I live too far away from another Avis so I was told to call roadside assistance to change the tire that I had to pay for them to fix and they would eventually reimburse me after I had to call customer service again. They are not friendly and do not care about the well being of their customers. Why would you give a car that had a bad tire on it and put the customer in a bad situation. Do you not inspect the vehicles before you rent them out? Very frustrating and inconvenient situation for me which has impacted my trip. I will not rent from Avis again. Very bad experience and stressful.
