Basit Ambulette Introduce
For residents across New York City, particularly those in Brooklyn facing mobility challenges, securing a reliable method of transportation for medical needs is a constant priority. Basit Ambulette, based in the heart of Brooklyn, specializes in this critical, niche service: handicapped transportation. Unlike a standard car rental company, an ambulette service is a non-emergency medical transport (NEMT) provider. It is fundamentally designed to serve individuals who require wheelchair-accessible vehicles, stretchers, or highly trained assistance to safely move to and from medical facilities, hospitals, or rehabilitation centers.
Basit Ambulette focuses its operational scope on providing this essential support, positioning itself as a key resource for the disabled, elderly, and those with chronic health conditions in the 11207 zip code and beyond. Their services are categorized under Handicapped Transportation Service, which includes vital support for both routine appointments and more time-sensitive needs. The distinction between an ambulette and an ambulance is crucial: Basit Ambulette is intended for non-life-threatening medical transport where the patient still requires specialized equipment and trained personnel beyond what a standard taxi can offer.
The importance of a Brooklyn-based NEMT provider cannot be overstated, given the borough's size and the challenges of NYC transit accessibility. However, like many high-demand services in the area, Basit Ambulette has faced considerable criticism from clients regarding core aspects of its operation. Public reviews frequently highlight severe issues with punctuality, dispatcher communication, and service professionalism. Prospective users in the New York area should recognize the value of the specialized service being offered while remaining aware of the documented challenges concerning reliability and scheduling. It is a service that meets a critical physical need but one that users must navigate with careful planning and clear communication.
Basit Ambulette is conveniently located at 144 Pilling St in Brooklyn, New York, within the 11207 ZIP code. This central Brooklyn location allows the company to serve clients across the borough and the wider New York City area effectively. Being situated in a dense residential and commercial part of Brooklyn means the service is positioned close to numerous healthcare facilities, making it a pragmatic choice for locals requiring frequent medical trips.
A critical feature of the facility itself, and a non-negotiable for a handicapped transportation provider, is its accessibility. Basit Ambulette ensures that the needs of its clientele are met from the moment they approach the office with a Wheelchair accessible entrance. This commitment to physical accessibility at their operational base demonstrates a foundational understanding of their customers' requirements. For patients, caregivers, and partners visiting the Pilling Street location, this accessibility feature is essential for a safe and barrier-free experience.
While the location in Brooklyn is advantageous for local coverage, users must factor the challenges of New York City traffic into their scheduling. Brooklyn's busy streets and frequent congestion can make adherence to strict timetables difficult. Although the specialized vehicles are designed for safety and comfort, the environment in which they operate—moving through Brooklyn's dense neighborhoods—is demanding. Clients are strongly advised to coordinate closely with the dispatch team and build significant buffer time into their schedules to account for potential delays, a common reality when using medical transportation services in the region.
Basit Ambulette’s services are highly specialized, focusing entirely on providing essential transport for individuals with medical or mobility needs:
- Handicapped Transportation Service: The umbrella service providing specialized vehicles and assistance for non-ambulatory individuals, including those who use wheelchairs or require full support.
- Non-Emergency Transportation: Scheduling and executing pre-booked rides for medical purposes that do not require immediate, life-saving intervention, such as routine doctor appointments, physical therapy, and dialysis treatments.
- Medical Care Transport: Dedicated transport to ensure patients reach various medical facilities, including clinics, hospitals, and specialty centers, with the necessary care and equipment.
- Emergency Transportation (Non-Ambulance): This highly specialized offering suggests a capacity to handle urgent medical transport needs that are not life-threatening (i.e., not a 911-level emergency requiring paramedics), bridging the gap between routine NEMT and a full ambulance. Note: Users should always call 911 for life-threatening emergencies.
- Wheelchair-Accessible Fleet: Operating a fleet of vehicles specifically modified with lifts or ramps to safely accommodate and secure passengers in wheelchairs.
- Patient Assistance: Providing trained drivers or attendants to assist the client from their starting point to the vehicle, and from the vehicle to their destination, ensuring a safe and supportive transition.
The main attributes of Basit Ambulette are centered on its dedicated function within the New York City medical landscape:
- Focused Handicapped Transportation: A clear specialization in serving the disabled community, ensuring their entire operational model—from vehicles to personnel—is geared towards mobility support.
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: The physical office at 144 Pilling St features an accessible entrance, making it easy for clients and their representatives to visit the location.
- Comprehensive Medical Coverage: The service scope includes Non-Emergency, routine Medical Care, and specialized Emergency Transportation (Non-Ambulance), catering to a broad spectrum of scheduled and urgent, non-life-threatening medical travel needs.
- Brooklyn Local Presence: Centrally located in Brooklyn, providing a key local resource for the borough's sizable population requiring specialized transport.
- Specialized Vehicle Fleet: Utilization of ambulettes, which are equipped with safety features and mobility devices (such as lifts and securement systems) necessary for the secure transport of wheelchair users.
- Essential Service for NYC Healthcare Access: Plays a crucial role in preventing missed medical appointments by eliminating the transportation barrier for non-ambulatory patients.

When a New York resident—especially one in Brooklyn—is evaluating transportation options for a loved one with mobility issues, Basit Ambulette offers a specific and essential service that a regular car rental simply cannot match. What is worth choosing here is the dedicated Handicapped Transportation Service, which is a required link in the chain of quality medical care. Their service offering includes the crucial category of Emergency Transportation (non-ambulance) and support for regular Medical Care appointments, indicating a capacity for handling both scheduled and urgent, non-life-threatening patient needs. Furthermore, the provision of a Wheelchair accessible entrance at their physical Brooklyn address is a testament to their commitment to accessibility from the ground up.
For many New Yorkers, utilizing this type of specialized NEMT service is mandated by Medicaid or other insurance providers to ensure safe transit to necessary healthcare. However, local users must temper the value of this specialization with the serious and consistent issues noted in customer feedback. The most prevalent complaints revolve around a profound lack of reliability, including drivers arriving significantly late (15–40 minutes beyond the window), dispatchers providing false updates, and logistical failures, such as sending a full van for a pickup, leading to unsafe situations (like an 80-year-old patient's caregiver having to sit on the floor).
Therefore, while Basit Ambulette offers a vital, specialized service necessary for patient well-being and healthcare access, local users must proceed with caution. This service is a functional choice because of the necessary ambulette equipment and support for handicapped persons. However, users are strongly advised to meticulously confirm all booking details, demand real-time driver tracking if available, and have a contingency plan due to the high reported rate of delays and communication issues. The choice to use Basit Ambulette is a choice for specialized mobility equipment, but one that requires active management by the client to achieve the needed reliability in the demanding New York environment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This business is not good. Drivers are late and dispatchers are irresponsible. I would call to report driver have not arrived as of yet and would be told to hold on only to be kept on hold. When I call back, the dispatcher would automatically put me on hold. As a result, appointment was cancelled due to my late arrival. I don't recommend this transport service to anyone.
May 05 · Nellie FloresIf I could give this ambulate service zero stars, I would. The drivers are never on time for scheduled pickups—it’s like a miracle if they arrive within the time slot. Most of the time, they show up 15-40 minutes late, leaving us waiting around endlessly. The dispatchers? Completely unreliable. They lie straight to your face, claiming that the driver is just a few blocks away or “10 minutes out,” but you’ll be stuck waiting for another 20-30 minutes. And it gets worse—drivers often tell me they received the call for the pickup just a few minutes before arriving, which means all those supposed ETAs were lies from the start.Today was the final straw. The driver they sent last minute already had a full van, and I had to sit on the floor because I couldn’t let my 80-year-old patient go to their doctor’s appointment alone. This is completely unacceptable and unsafe. The lack of professionalism and disregard for patients’ time and comfort is beyond frustrating. I would never recommend this service to anyone who actually needs reliable transport, let alone people with medical needs.
October 22 · Nalani FrancisAVOID AT ALL COST! Pick up for a cancer patient treatment was for 8:30am. Called them at 8:40 their dispatcher said that the drive is 20 minutes away. At 9:00 am they said the drive is a few minutes away. At 9:20 dispatcher said the driver is a few minutes way. Called again at 9:30 and they said the driver is stuck and they have no idea when the ambulate is going pick us up. Refused to apologize or even admit that this is wrong. Will complain to city and state to dept of health. This company should not be in the business of helping sick people.
September 23 · dmitriy khavinI have now been riding with Basit N Tariq for close to a year. Most of the drivers are either early or on time. There has only been a few occasions of tardiness and that was definitely due to unexpected weather and road conditions (ex: traffic or an accident). No company or person is perfect but I assure you that riding with Basit; the pros outweigh the cons. 90% of the drivers that I have encountered are polite, professional and gave very good conversation. Having great people skills is a must especially when you are dealing with individuals who have disabilities like myself..... My only major complaint would be some of the vehicles need to be serviced or taken off the road and replaced with a newer or new vehicle because some are malfunctioning, missing seat belt devices, may need a new transmission and an oil change... ***Even if you're using your personal vehicle you still get it serviced because it will Sooner rather than later break down permanently...***..... Those are issues ONLY the Owner of the company can resolve... .... It is the staff (dispatch and the drivers) that runs the business and they as a whole do a great job...
October 13 · Margery LyonsI am utterly disappointed and appalled by Basit Ambulette's service. After scheduling a pick-up for my grandmother, they failed to show up, leaving us waiting for over an hour. This negligence caused my grandmother to miss a crucial doctor's appointment. Their excuse was traffic, but it's completely unacceptable not to show up at all, without even a call to update us. I had to constnalty call them and all I was told was that the driver was "near". The driver was nowhere near and NEVER showed up! This isn't just poor service; it's irresponsibility at its worst. I wouldn't even give them one star if it were an option. I have already reported them and filed a complaint with my grandmother's insurance company, who are now well aware of this incident. I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of using Basit Ambulette. They are a terrible company, and you cannot rely on them for any important transportation needs.
