Maggies Paratransit Corp. Introduce
For New Yorkers who require specialized, accessible transportation, especially those relying on the MTA’s Access-A-Ride Program, finding a reliable carrier is crucial. Maggies Paratransit Corp. is one of the key providers in the region, offering dedicated door-to-door transportation primarily for elderly and disabled citizens who are unable to utilize the conventional mass transit system in New York City. Operating as an ADA-compliant transportation company under contract with the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA), Maggies Paratransit Corp. has a history dating back to 2001, positioning it as one of the most established and experienced carriers within the Access-A-Ride network.
This service is not a traditional car rental in the sense of a vehicle you drive yourself, but rather a vital part of the city's public transportation infrastructure for its most vulnerable populations. The focus is exclusively on specialized, accessible transport, ensuring compliance with federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. This commitment is evidenced by their fleet and operational structure designed to meet the specific needs of their clientele, encompassing vehicles like sedans and, critically, lift-equipped buses.
The company emphasizes its long-standing presence and comprehensive coverage, operating across the five boroughs of New York City, and extending service corridors into parts of Western Nassau and Westchester counties. They proudly state that they maintain one of the largest fleets in the industry and offer a critical 24-hour service, 365 days a year, which is essential for New Yorkers needing flexible and round-the-clock accessibility.
However, it is vital for prospective users, especially those considering relying on this service, to be fully aware of the user experience. Public feedback, including customer reviews, paints a challenging picture regarding service reliability and professionalism. Complaints frequently cite significant issues with on-time performance, communication breakdowns, and unsatisfactory customer service, particularly concerning delays and alleged no-shows, which can severely impact the daily lives and schedules of passengers with critical mobility needs. A professional evaluation of the service must include this transparent disclosure, as the core promise of paratransit is dependable, dignified service for the disabled community.
The main operational presence for Maggies Paratransit Corp. is rooted in Brooklyn, New York. This central location helps facilitate their widespread service coverage across the metropolitan area. The specific business location details are:
Address: 233 Norwood Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11208, USA
The company's facility is structured to be fully compliant with accessibility requirements. This includes:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot
While the physical location in East New York, Brooklyn, serves as the operational hub for their fleet and dispatch, the actual "place" for customers is the door-to-door service provided across the vast operational area. For eligible New Yorkers, the service area covers all of the five boroughs—Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island—as well as the aforementioned extensions into neighboring counties. This extensive area confirms their role as a major regional service provider under the MTA's Access-A-Ride mandate.
Accessing the service itself is done through the official MTA Access-A-Ride program, which requires customers to first be deemed eligible. Once eligibility is confirmed, trips are booked directly through the Access-A-Ride system, which then coordinates with carriers like Maggies Paratransit Corp. to fulfill the reservations. This indirect system means that the customer experience is heavily reliant on the carrier's internal dispatch, driver competency, and adherence to contractual performance metrics set by the NYCT.
Maggies Paratransit Corp. provides specialized transportation services, primarily through their contract with the New York City Transit Authority (NYCT) for the Access-A-Ride Program. The key services provided include:
- Handicapped transportation service for eligible customers.
- Door-to-door service for elderly and disabled citizens who are unable to use conventional bus or subway service.
- Operation within the five boroughs of NYC (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island), and specific areas of Western Nassau and Westchester counties.
- Provision of both sedans and lift-equipped buses as part of their fleet (approximately 330 vehicles total).
- ADA-compliant service, ensuring vehicles are appropriate for individuals using wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
- Service availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
The company highlights several institutional and operational features:
- Established in 2001, making it one of the oldest and most experienced carriers in the local paratransit industry.
- One of the largest fleet operators under the Access-A-Ride program, indicating significant capacity for trip fulfillment.
- Solely dedicated to paratransit, offering focused expertise in accessible transportation.
- Full compliance with ADA regulations concerning accessible vehicles and services.
- Operational flexibility with 24-hour service to meet diverse customer needs, including non-emergency medical appointments, work commutes, and personal errands at any time.
- Operational hub in East New York, Brooklyn, supporting rapid deployment across the region.
To reach the company directly, New Yorkers can use the following information. Note that booking a ride requires first contacting the MTA's Access-A-Ride system, not the carrier directly, though these contact details are for general inquiries or operational concerns.

For New York residents, Maggies Paratransit Corp. is an unavoidable and essential component of the MTA’s Access-A-Ride network, not a direct competitor to traditional vehicle rental agencies. The service's primary value lies in its specialized nature: it provides legally mandated, ADA-compliant, door-to-door transportation for a population that cannot use conventional public transit. The sheer scale and 24-hour availability of their operations make them a necessary choice for many eligible users across the five boroughs and adjacent areas.
However, users must temper their expectations with the reality of customer service reports. While the *existence* of their large fleet and round-the-clock service is a significant public benefit and a technical highlight, the anecdotal evidence of poor on-time performance, communication failures, and reported unprofessionalism from staff presents a serious challenge to their stated mission of 'Providing Excellent Service'. Therefore, choosing this carrier, or any Access-A-Ride vendor, often comes down to necessity and the understanding that customers must rely on the MTA's regulatory oversight to ensure acceptable service standards are met.
In summary, Maggies Paratransit Corp. is an industry veteran and a major capacity holder in the critical sector of accessible public transportation in New York City. Their dedicated focus on the elderly and disabled population, extensive fleet of specialized vehicles, and 24/7 service coverage make them integral to the city's infrastructure. Prospective and current users should approach the service with due diligence, understanding both its vital role and the documented service performance challenges, and should utilize the established channels for reporting service issues to the NYCT to advocate for consistent, high-quality, and timely transportation.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Employees are unprofessional, dishonest and deeply incompetent. My 93 year old grandma and I were scheduled for a ride through Access-A-Ride at 4:30 pm. It is now 7:15 pm and her transportation has yet to arrive. At 4:24, we were waiting outside when the first driver arrived and informed us that her ride was cancelled, and that another accessible vehicle would be picking her up. We were not informed of this via Access-A-Ride so we asked the driver to call and confirm. He refused and told us to call them ourselves, and drove off.We then called Access-A-Ride and waited on the line for 15 minutes only to be told lies. The driver stated he had arrived and could not locate us. We were in the same location as before. The driver never arrived at our destination. How could he be at the location when we called Access-A-Ride at 4:24 when the first vehicle left?Complete lies. While walking up the plaza at Gateway, I located the vehicle. THE DRIVER NEVER REPORTED TO THE SPECIFIED DESTINATION. He was halfway down the plaza at another business. The driver sat in the vehicle doing absolutely NOTHING.Maggie’s then booked two more trips with the wrong drop-off destination and then had to cancel. We are now being told that our next pickup is not until 8:30 pm.So now a 93 year old woman is sitting outside of Gateway plaza past the time the majority of the ships have closed and with a dropping temperature. This company should NOT be allowed to work with the most vulnerable populations. They leave them stranded and offer NO assistance, but rather plenty of excuses.Shame on you! Do better!
March 26 · Alexis Harewood12/27/24 Was 20 degrees outside. There was no notification that they had arrived. When I called to check I was told that they had arrived early and then left. That is no way to treat the disabled!

September 05 · Sheaa BellahIt hit or miss use them to bring me to dialysis center for treatment at 445 am very dependable and on time I guessbit is early in the morning. After 9am luckybif you get a pickup with in 30 min from your reserved time. Drivers are very courteous and friendly it isn't their fault they are late.
May 20 · richard rodriguezThe worst Access A Ride company ever! They repeatedly lie about the information given to you. One my coworker was told to come in at 1:10 and she will get out 4:30 all sudden, she gets a text saying to come in for 4:30. Another lie I asked the road supervisor if an accident would it go on my licenses record he said 'No' but when I asked the cops they said 'Yes'. The entire staff favorites who they want and are very disorganized. I highly do not recommend anyone working here. If it was possible to give them 0 out 5 stars I certainly would in a heartbeat.
