Hertz Car Rental - Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) Introduce
For many Pennsylvania residents and travelers flying into Western PA, the rental car counter at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is the first point of contact for ground transportation. Hertz Car Rental, located directly at the airport's rental car access road, offers a wide selection of vehicles, positioning itself as a primary choice for convenient, on-site service upon arrival. As a globally recognized car rental agency, Hertz provides everything from compact cars for city driving in Pittsburgh to SUVs, like the popular Nissan Rogue, suitable for exploring the state's diverse landscapes.
This airport location is structured to offer immediate, terminal-adjacent service. Among its notable offerings are 'Active military discounts,' a valuable benefit for the large military community and veterans in Pennsylvania and those traveling for official business. Furthermore, the agency has embraced modern payment methods, including the convenience of NFC mobile payments, alongside traditional credit and debit card options.
However, recent user feedback from the local Pennsylvania community indicates a significant discrepancy between the perceived brand reliability and the actual on-site experience at this specific Pittsburgh International Airport franchise location. While the offerings are robust, potential renters must be fully aware of the highly mixed service reports, which frequently mention issues with professionalism, contract adherence, and—most critically—vehicle condition and damage accountability. The following sections will detail the facts about the location, services, and the key points Pennsylvania users should consider before booking.
The Hertz Car Rental branch is situated directly on the premises of the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), ensuring maximum convenience for arriving passengers in Pennsylvania. This location within the airport's dedicated facility simplifies the pick-up and drop-off process immensely, bypassing the need for off-site shuttles typically required by non-airport agencies.
The exact address is: 8 Rental Car Access Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15231, USA.
Being located on the Rental Car Access Road means the counter and the vehicle lot are part of the airport's integrated transportation infrastructure. This setup allows for "Onsite services," which means customers can complete the entire transaction and access their vehicle right there without leaving the airport complex.
Accessibility is prioritized at this high-traffic location. Key accessibility features include:
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: Ensuring smooth access to the rental counter for all customers.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Providing designated, convenient, and safe parking access.
- On-site Parking: Available for customers who are using the facility.
The seamless integration of the rental counter and vehicle staging area within the airport structure is a major advantage for weary travelers flying into Pennsylvania, but this convenience must be weighed against the reported operational issues.
As a full-service car rental agency operating at a major international airport, the Hertz PIT location offers a comprehensive suite of vehicles and payment options designed to meet various customer needs, whether for business, leisure, or family travel within Pennsylvania.
The core services provided include:
- Car Rental Agency: Offering a full spectrum of vehicle classes, including Economy, Compact, Midsize, Standard, and Full-Size Sedans (e.g., Chevrolet Malibu).
- SUV/Specialty Vehicles: Providing a popular selection of Small and Midsize SUVs (e.g., the frequently rented Nissan Rogue), which are well-suited for the variable weather and road conditions across Pennsylvania. Specialty vehicles such as convertibles and luxury cars may also be available depending on inventory.
- Onsite Services: The advantage of having the rental counter and vehicle lot directly on the airport premises for a quick transition from plane to car.
- Active Military Discounts: Special promotional pricing and discounts are offered to verified active military personnel and veterans as a part of their Government and Military Discount Programs.
- Flexible Payment Options: Customers can pay for their rentals using major Credit Cards and Debit Cards. A further highlight is the availability of NFC mobile payments, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, streamlining the checkout process.
- Membership Services: Offering programs like Gold Plus Rewards, which are designed to expedite the rental process for frequent travelers, though the local execution of these services (e.g., "preferred exchanges") can be inconsistent, according to customer feedback.
The key features of the Hertz Pittsburgh International Airport branch are primarily focused on convenience and access, though these are sometimes overshadowed by service inconsistencies documented in customer reviews.
The major features and highlights include:
- Premier Airport Location: The most significant benefit is the location at 8 Rental Car Access Rd, offering a minimal travel time from the airplane to the rental car.
- Active Military Discount Program: Hertz provides a valuable discount to U.S. government employees and service members, offering up to 25% off base rates for verified military community members.
- Advanced Payment Technology: Accepting NFC mobile payments demonstrates a commitment to modern, swift transaction processing.
- Accessibility: Full Wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot ensures the facility is compliant and welcoming to all customers.
- Extensive Fleet: A vast choice of vehicles, including the popular SUV class (e.g., Nissan Rogue) often favored by Pennsylvania drivers for their versatility and road presence.
However, customers consistently report significant issues with the execution of services. The reviews highlight a failure by some staff to honor reserved vehicle classes (e.g., offering a Kia Soul instead of a reserved Jeep class, despite other Jeeps being available) and, alarmingly, attempting to bill customers up to $10,000 for pre-existing damage. This "con job" allegation points to a systemic failure in the damage inspection and documentation process, especially concerning vehicles picked up at night when lighting is poor. The highly mixed experiences, ranging from friendly managers to very rude return-lane attendants, suggest a severe lack of consistency in staff training and adherence to customer service protocols at this franchise.
For all direct inquiries regarding reservations, vehicle availability, military discount eligibility, or reporting issues, Pennsylvania customers should use the following contact information for the Hertz Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) location.
Contact Information:
- Address: 8 Rental Car Access Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15231, USA
- Phone: (412) 465-1048
- Mobile Phone: +1 412-465-1048
It is advisable for customers to contact the branch directly using the provided phone number to confirm their specific reservation details and vehicle class before their arrival, especially if a particular type of vehicle, such as a Jeep or another SUV, is essential for their travels across Pennsylvania.
Choosing Hertz Car Rental at Pittsburgh International Airport is primarily worth considering for Pennsylvania-bound travelers based on two key factors: unparalleled location convenience and the military discount. The on-site service at 8 Rental Car Access Rd means minimal delay upon landing, which is an undeniable time-saver for anyone on a tight schedule. Furthermore, the availability of a substantial 'Active military discount' is a powerful incentive for official travel or personal use by service members and veterans.
However, the decision to rent here must be made with the highest degree of caution. The persistent and serious issues detailed in customer reviews, particularly the alleged attempts to charge for pre-existing damage, necessitate an absolutely rigorous rental process by the customer. The most critical piece of advice for any Pennsylvania renter at this location is to meticulously document the vehicle’s condition. Upon pickup—regardless of the time of day or the light level—every part of the vehicle, including tires, body panels, and existing internal stickers or marks, must be photographed or videoed, effectively creating an indisputable record of the pre-rental condition. This proactive measure is the only way to safeguard against potential unwarranted damage claims upon return.
In summary, choose Hertz PIT for the convenience and the discount, but approach the contract and vehicle inspection process as if you are dealing with a company that has a documented history of trying to pass on old damage costs to new renters. The benefit of a quick airport exit is only worth the potential hassle if you are prepared to protect yourself with photographic evidence.

October 07 · Shanthan RamarajuThis was a con job at its finest. I flew in from Florida, and rented a vehicle at this hertz, which had a Georgia plate on it. They gave me a Nissan rogue. I picked up the vehicle at 10:56pm. I went to the counter and the person told me I had checked in online so to just go to the spot and get the car. No paperwork was given. I noticed on the passenger side of the car, there were stickers with letters on them, assuming this meant damage. Keep in mind it was 10:56pm and these garages are not very well lit. The next morning, my father went outside and came in and told me the driver side of the car was all messed up, and there was a gash in the driver side tire. I went outside to look and sure enough he was correct. Remembering I had happened to snap a picture of the driver side the night before when I picked up the vehicle, I looked at the picture, and sure enough the damage was there. I called hertz and couldn’t get anyone on the phone. Fast forward to returning the car, when I arrived at the airport, a guy came to check the car in and I proceeded to tell him about the damage and how I have pictures from the night I picked it up. I also showed him the stickers on the other side of the vehicle. He said he would submit a claim and I would hear from hertz. The next day I received a link to dispute the damage on the vehicle. I attempted several times on my phone and on a computer and it would not let me submit anything. I called and spoke to someone and they told me not to worry, the claim was closed. Two weeks later I get a voicemail from a recovery agent, which I promptly called back, left her a voicemail, and never heard back. A week after, I received a bill for $10k for damages. I started going through the pictures in the invoice, which was 85 pages, and I noticed, not only did one of the damaged pieces of the vehicle was missing, but so were the stickers with the letters on the other side, and they were trying to charge me for that as well. Since then I have submitted pictures the from the night I picked up the vehicle (in the dark), and also pictures from the next morning in the light. You can see the same damage in both. I have not received any response about my submission. The missing stickers on the other side of the car is another thing I’m going to have to deal with. This is 100% a con job. Someone needed to take responsibility for the damage that was already on the vehicle, and they are trying to pin it on me. I will NEVER ASSOCIATE MYSELF WITH HERTZ AGAIN. More importantly, if you rent with these con artists at the airport, make sure you take pictures of EVERYTHING.
April 27 · anthony mastromatteoI love renting from Hertz and everything about their business. They have been around forever and provide each customer with white glove treatment. Their selection of cars to choose from is vast and all of their cars are newer and in excellent shape; clean inside and out. Upon arriving to Hertz for pickup or drop off, all of their employees treat you as if you are their first and only customer and with enthusiasm to assist. Hertz “ Skip the Line” is a fabulous feature. I love never having to wait in line just to let an employee know I have arrived.
August 29 · michelle haflerWe reserved a vehicle weeks in advance. When we got to the counter, the surly counter girl told us that the only vehicle that was available would be an upcharge. I’m sorry, but when a customer reserves weeks in advance, you give them the vehicle you have available; that is what every other rental company does. So we asked how long we would have to wait, and she rudely said she didn’t know, “we are very busy”.So then she asked about insurance, and my wife began to answer. She rudely interrupted, and said, “I’m talking to him”. Are you kidding me? This nasty little girl has absolutely no business working in the customer service realm. I would have fired her so fast it would have made her head spin. We told her we were not going to tolerate her rudeness, and went to the manager. The manager immediately gave us a vehicle. 5 stars to the manager, 0 stars for the horrible girl at the counter. Hopefully she is standing in an unemployment line now, dealing with someone as horrible as she is.
October 09 · TyCobb9999I thought I was having a great experience, President’s Circle, great car quick in and out. Dropped the car off, he said you’re good to go. Got my email receipt a few minutes later and they added an underage driver fee. I’m 54. Chatted with customer service and they said it was my fault for not putting my birthday on my profile. The guy that processed me at the exit had my license. I call BS. They just added a fee hoping I won’t notice. This was my first Hertz experience at PIT and probably my last.
