★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I rented a 2025 VW Atlas, 3 row SUV for a long weekend. The car had a complete transmission failure while driving down the Chicago Skyway at 70 mph and shifted itself into neutral and could not be put back into drive. I had to dangerously drift across 4 lanes of traffic with no acceleration while my infant daughter and friends were in the car. Luckily I was able to guide the vehicle to a shoulder. Avis roadside told us it would be 2 hours before a tow truck would be able to move the vehicle and that we would need to contact the police to get my family off the freeway. After several hours, we eventually made it to an Enterprise rental and got another car. After the trip Avis did not mark the car as returned after they towed it, even though and agent called to confirm the car had made it back to a service location. Avis proceeded to charge me for several extra days while the car was at a service center and was then returned to O'hare, adding an extra fee. This was an additional $650 on top of the $400 I prepaid for the rental. Avis ignored the customer service ticket they requested I submit online and did not assign it to an actual customer service agent. I called multiple times and I have still not received any refund a month later. They are saying they are going to refund the extra $650 they erroneously applied to my card but they have refused to refund the $400 dollars I paid for the 4 day rental. I only used the car for one day before it had a dangerous malfunction and ruined my trip. They're still going to charge me for the full rental cost, not to mention I'm out the cost for the Enterprise replacement vehicle. One the worst customer service experiences I have had. Do not rent from this company.
October 08 · Dustin LuseFiling a report with the BBB is not resolved after filing a complaint with Avis. I noted a business security camera in the office that should have caught the interaction for proof. This was absolutely the most unbelievable and horrible customer service experience I’ve ever had. She was the only woman working during this time.My husband and I came to return a car rental about 12:30 am. We arrived and there was no one at the service counter or in their back office room for a while. Another customer was there trying to pick up a rental and after waiting for about 10 minutes the other customer went out into the garage to find an employee. Some minutes later he returned with the female agent. The other customer informed her that I had been there before him. She stood there at the door and said “what do you need?” Right from the start, she acting was very standoffish as though I had interrupted her from whatever she was doing outside. She had strolled in with a security guard that had stayed quiet in the corner the entire following interaction. I greeted her and told her I was there to return the car with my husband and that no one was around so we tried reading the instruction posters and notices on the counter to figure out what we had to do (reference photo posted). The written instructions were conflicting, further confusing us. So my husband decided to take the slip of paper we received with the car to fill out the usage info. She pointed behind her to a sign out in the parking garage that stated something I couldn’t see. She rambled about the sign and I apologized and said we must have missed it. I explained that we didn’t know and weren’t familiar with the process of returning cars. I mentioned the conflicting instructions on the desk and was worried about making a mistake. I was also confused because she said we returned the car to the wrong area, even though we had parked the car in a slot labeled for returns. I didn’t have a problem moving the car but again was just trying to clarify. She got very annoyed and continued to be short and speak condescendingly. I finally asked her “why are you being so rude to me? I’m being polite to you. I’m just asking you explain the process and clarify the instructions they had posted”. She responded “you’re being rude and keep talking”. I was extremely confused because I hadn’t raised my voice at all during that initial conversation and was just interacting as one normally would up to that point. I was honestly taken aback. She then snapped at me further and at that point I got upset. My husband returned at that point, telling me he figured it out and that there was a drop box outside. He asked me what was wrong when he noticed the tenseness. I told him what’s happened. I said I wanted to file a complaint and that she should be fired by how shockingly unprofessional and rude she was. The woman then called me a “B-word” and I snapped back at her. Again Avis should have security footage to corroborate what happened. We left after that. The security guard did nothing during the entire interaction. I wondered if they had been outside chatting or having a smoke break or something by the way they had strolled in together in the beginning.I was honestly shaken up and so upset by the experience. My husband and I filed a complaint with Avis and received a case number. Our interaction with Avis previously had been great up until this point. This is a massive problem employee that should NOT be working in customer service. I absolutely would like her to be fired so she doesn’t have the opportunity to treat someone else this way. To Avis, this woman does not represent your company in a good light and you should seriously cut ties with this specific employee. I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life with any business before.
August 25 · Megan DierkingCurrently waiting in a 30+ person line. One person at the counter despite there being ten registers. It’s 2:00 pm on a Saturday and every other rental car counter is open. I strongly recommend NOT booking with them ever.
August 02 · Nick SolishWhenever I use Avis, I typically have no problem. Smooth check-in process and clean vehicle. However when I got my rental today it was filthy. Unfortunately I did not notice the severity until I left the establishment as I only did a quick glance at the exterior and front seat when leaving. The inside of the car was disgusting. I’ve never received a car from them in this condition so I was not expecting it. I may have to start looking into alternative rental companies going forward. I am currently awaiting to get into touch with customer service
January 11 · Georgie BBad bad bad experience!!! Everyone rushy rushing because it’s busy and not caring if the customer is more inconvenienced. Bad / horrible customer service here at Midway! First car tire was pressure was way off second carHad blow out and then come the amusing part …. Had to call my own AAA to get the donut exchanged or be charged when it wasn’t my fault and I was already inconvenienced by the first car I was given but ok after 2 hrs AAA came and then I called to see about exchanging the third car because who wants to ride around on a doughnut when you have the car till Monday and today is Friday. At the airport, I specifically told the young lady I was exchanging the car however when I returned the car, they closed out my rental agreement (rushing And not paying attention to the customers and causing more inconvenience) Had to stand in line for almost 2 hours because it was so packed and crowded and busy finally get the third car and then I can’t leave out of the garage because the rental agreement now is all jacked up because of all the cars that have been added to the rental agreement. Actually had to wait another hour and 20 minutes before they try to get that straightened out because the person who exchanged the car also had the destination for Midway when that wasn’t the correct destination(again RUSHING). So after 7 hrs of trying to get the tire exchange trying to get the car exchange I threw up in the air or should I get a free day since I’ve been inconvenience and had to go through all this on Wednesday and on today, Friday? 🦗🦗🦗🦗🦗(CRICKETS) . Most of all the encounters on today made me feel like I was the problem or I created the problem or it was my problem and I just think that’s very unfair and causes them not to be efficient in customer service and I’ll never Rent from Avis’s or budget again and I put out this message to those who are listening. I suggest you don’t either this company does not care about customers and they don’t care if the customer is inconvenience for their betterment or for their gain And that’s not a company you should stand behind or spend your money with especially during these times! Stay Away From this Company and seek elsewhere PLEASE
