Community Transit Introduce
For residents across Delaware County, Pennsylvania, reliable and accessible transportation is more than a convenience—it's a critical lifeline to independence, health, and community participation. While the name "car rental" is sometimes broadly used, Community Transit (DELGO), located in Eddystone, PA, is accurately categorized as a vital Handicapped transportation service, a Non-governmental organization, and a Non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the complex mobility needs of local citizens.
This organization plays a crucial role in the local infrastructure by providing demand-responsive, shared-ride services. Its core mission, established when it was incorporated in 1983 as the Delaware County Transportation Consortium, is fundamentally to improve the quality of life for Delaware County citizens by meeting their mobility needs through reliable and affordable service. Unlike a traditional car rental agency that provides a personal vehicle for self-drive, Community Transit offers a fleet of expertly maintained, wheelchair-accessible minibuses driven by seasoned professionals, specializing in getting residents who might not otherwise have the means or ability to travel to their necessary destinations.
The transportation services provided by Community Transit are primarily focused on non-emergency, essential trips, supporting some of Pennsylvania's most vulnerable populations. They facilitate thousands of trips every weekday, originating in Delaware County with destinations available within the county and in Philadelphia, with limited trips to surrounding counties like Montgomery and Chester. This community focus and public service role distinguish it completely from a commercial car or van rental service.
It is important for potential users in the Pennsylvania region to understand that this service operates on an advance reservation, shared-ride basis, not as an exclusive taxi or immediate ride-hailing service. While invaluable to the community, this model is subject to scheduling and capacity constraints, which can lead to extended wait times. Customer feedback, such as reports of clients being over an hour early for appointments or waiting a considerable time for pick-up, highlights that planning and patience are necessary when utilizing shared-ride public services. Users are advised to confirm their eligibility and understand the strict scheduling requirements, including the need to book rides well in advance (up to two weeks), to minimize frustration.
Community Transit's main base of operations is strategically located to serve the Delaware County area effectively. The facility ensures a level of physical accessibility crucial for the populations it serves.

- Demand-Responsive Transportation: General advance-reservation transportation for the public, sometimes referred to as 'Car Services' or 'Taxi Service' in a specialized context, but operating primarily on a shared-ride model.
- Specialized Transportation Trips: Door-to-door and curb-to-curb service for specific destinations such as Adult Day Centers, Urgent Care, Medical Facilities, and Limo Services (as a classification of specialized vehicle type).
As a non-profit, public-facing organization, Community Transit’s highlights are focused on their community benefit and operational specialty.
- Wheelchair Accessible Fleet: Operating 48 wheelchair-accessible minibuses, ensuring that individuals who use mobility devices can travel safely and comfortably.
- Non-Profit and Community Focused: The organization's 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status confirms its commitment to social welfare and affordable service delivery, funded in part by the PA Lottery and other charitable giving.
- Door-to-Door Service Option: Although the standard is curb-to-curb, the option for door-to-door assistance is provided for those with medically verified or documented needs, ensuring a higher level of personal support.
- Extensive Operational Coverage: Rides are available seven days a week, from 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., providing essential coverage outside of typical business hours for medical treatments and other critical needs.
- Subsidized Fares: Key government and lottery-funded programs significantly reduce the cost of transportation for eligible seniors (65+) and low-income individuals receiving Medical Assistance, making essential trips affordable.

For Delaware County, Pennsylvania residents, choosing Community Transit is essential when seeking specialized, affordable transportation that integrates with state-funded social services. The primary value of Community Transit lies not in convenience for the general public, but in the accessibility, affordability, and specialized nature of its services for its target clientele—seniors and people with disabilities.
If you are a Medicaid recipient needing transportation to medical appointments, or a senior looking for reduced-fare transportation for errands and social visits, Community Transit is the critical administrator of the MATP and Senior Shared Ride programs in the county. These programs are financially inaccessible anywhere else, as the fares are heavily subsidized. The commitment to maintaining a fleet of accessible, lift-equipped vehicles with trained drivers provides a safe and necessary travel option for individuals whose disabilities prevent them from using fixed-route public transit or driving themselves.
While user reviews indicate challenges with scheduling and adherence to pick-up times—a common operational difficulty for all shared-ride, demand-responsive services that must manage multiple riders simultaneously—the service remains irreplaceable for its target population. The key to a positive experience is rigorous adherence to the two-week advance booking policy, clear communication of any special needs or necessary door-to-door assistance at the time of reservation, and a realistic understanding that shared-ride transportation requires flexibility with arrival times. For essential, non-emergency trips that demand professional, accessible, and affordable transport solutions in Delaware County, Community Transit is an indispensable community asset.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This has got to be the worse transportation I’ve ever dealt with . My client be over and hour early to appointments. & sits about the same amount of time waiting to get picked up. Going to an appointment becomes an all day with these people because they SUCK. wish I could give a 0
September 03 · fatima johnsonThursday using the company have a doctors between you today they Told me to wake up at 6:21 and they will be at home. At the time that they told me to get up. Nobody has came to my apartment. I don't know if the transportation drivers are lazy. But they made me late for my Doctor's appointment. And I'm very frustrated and irritated about has came. For about 2 hours now of me sitting outside in the morning in this hot heat.
August 05 · Nikayyah MooreThese people have an Emergency Assistance Number in case of the Rides being booked up and more possibilities of making those important appointments. But from a Care Taker…they don’t think a Urology appointment for an MS patient to have a Foley changed is important and not reason enough without Medicaid to put on a Transit Bus to Media…if that helps. These people are really rude. The Office People. I had 1 successful Transit with them for someone and will say those Driver’s helped. I’m on my way tall Grad from All State Careers. But that Sherry or whatever in charge of Emergency Assistance, no. Like Damon Wayne on My Wife and Kids..Imagine trying to schedule trips for someone with MS that has a Caretaker and he helps his sick wife at Home and can’t leave to get him to an appointment made less than Two weeks from discharge of a Hospital. These lazy bums.
May 20 · Dorsey HarrisonThey keep ignoring my notations when I schedule a ride online and send a driver to pick me up at the wrong hospital entrance. Because of this, they are consistently hours late and they have to send the driver back. Please tighten up your operation, especially for elderly/disabled clients such as myself.
December 13 · Dale CarterThis service is very consistent at being 2-3 hours late picking up their disabled clients. The time frame in which your ride will arrive depends entirely on whoever you can manage to reach on the phone. The customer service representatives who do answer the phone are typically extremely rude, with no regard or respect for the caller's time. If you choose to go with DELGO, be prepared to wait patiently for hours, because if you go inside for six minutes, you may miss the driver, who won't call you even if you specifically request a call and WILL leave within five minutes of arrival no matter the circumstances. They also will NOT call to inform you that they've marked you as a no-show. Overall, DELGO's communication, customer service, efficiency, and client care are severely lacking.
