The Hertz Car Rental - Los Angeles - Beverly/La Brea HLE is a great option for Los Angeles users who prioritize a convenient, centrally located neighborhood pick-up, specifically for its specialized vehicle options. If you are a local Californian needing a Cargo Van for a project, or if you are specifically looking to rent an Electric Vehicle like a Tesla to traverse the city's extensive electric infrastructure, this branch’s fleet offers attractive and highly relevant choices that may not be available at smaller, competing agencies. Its location near major LA thoroughfares also ensures minimal detour time for local residents.
However, the decision to rent from this particular location must be made with eyes wide open. Recent customer feedback highlights serious and concerning issues relating to vehicle readiness and contractual compliance. Reports of pre-paid reservations not being honored, alleged unfair 'upgrade' pressures, unacceptable vehicle cleanliness (including filth and dog hair), maintenance neglect (e.g., overdue oil changes and broken heating/AC), and unwarranted fuel charges are all significant red flags. These reported issues suggest potential lapses in both customer service integrity and fleet management standards at the branch level.
For any California user choosing this facility, the professional recommendation is to adopt an extremely rigorous protocol to protect yourself against potential issues:
- Mandatory Pre-Rental Call: Always call the direct number (323) 965-9691 immediately before heading to the office to verbally confirm that your specific reserved car class is physically present and ready for pick-up.
- Detailed Inspection and Documentation: Upon arrival, conduct a meticulous inspection of the vehicle's interior and exterior. Take timestamped photographs or a video of the odometer, fuel level, tires, body panels (documenting any dirt or existing damage), and the cabin's cleanliness. Do not accept a vehicle you consider unhygienic or unsafe.
- Contract Vigilance: Scrutinize the final rental contract at the counter. Ensure the agreed-upon rate, vehicle class, and fuel policy are correctly noted before signing, and question any unexpected fees, especially fuel or upgrade charges.
- Proof of Return: When returning the car, take a photograph of the fuel gauge and mileage, and whenever possible, request and retain a signed receipt or a drop-off confirmation document from a staff member acknowledging the vehicle's condition and fuel level at the exact time of return.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Pre-paid for a 4-day rental online. When I got there, I was informed that my car had already been given away and in order to continue my trip, was blackmailed into paying another $100 to "upgrade" to a beat-up Model 3, which turned out to be the filthiest rental I've ever had. Clearly not even vacuumed from the previous rental, with the full collection of dog hair, food grime and unknown sticky substances still left on seats, armrests and screen. The steering wheel was only held together by a thick cover, the driver side cared was jammed under the break pedal and the car had no heating at all and would blast the AC at any temperature setting. All in all, would not recommend unless you enjoy being taken advantage of.
July 15 · Thomas SanladererFirst of all, the car was handed to me in a very dirty condition inside. There was dust absolutely everywhere, and I had to clean it myself because driving in such conditions was almost impossible.Second, the car was already due for an oil change when I picked it up. After only about 500 miles, the system notified me that the oil needed to be replaced. It doesn’t make sense to rent out a car for 4 days with unlimited miles when it clearly should have gone through service first.Third, I was unfairly charged for fuel. I returned the car with the exact same fuel level as when I picked it up, yet I was still charged by the gas service. There was no actual service provided, and this charge is unacceptable.
August 23 · Anna MuzovaAvoid this location!!! They won't answer the phone. We prepaid a month long rental and declined insurance coverage as our credit card provides coverage. When my young son picked up the car, the employee didn't speak clear English and somehow added insurance coverage without his knowledge or authorization. My son realized this soon after he left when he saw the price difference from our prepaid rental. He tried to call but no answer and it was a Saturday and the location closed early. He returned 3 times attempting to have coverage removed and the employee would not help him. I also spoke with Anthony who was unwilling to help. This is deceptive trade practice. I wish I had seen all of the other terrible reviews for this location. If the manager of this location reads this- please call for the rental that was picked up on August 9th for a month, I have filed a complaint with BBB and will pursue further action.
August 22 · Melinda NugentThey were very unprofessional we dropped off our Tesla at the repair shop, came in to pick up our rental had to wait over an hour to speak to someone and it took 3 different people to help us. We kindly asked if we could rent another Tesla that wasin the lot and was told they do not work when they are clearly out there to be rented out . If not why would you have them out there and not in repair shop. Then we asked what our other options were and they only offered one other car out of about 20 ridiculous! This was not fair at all, please do yourself a favor and do not come here.
August 19 · alina perezThis is one of the busiest yet worst Hertz locations I've ever been to. I rented a car covered under my insurance for three weeks. Upon arrival on July 25, I was offered to rent a Tesla but I firmly refused. I was issued a maroon Nissan Altima, but it had barely any fuel on it. I almost ran out of fuel after driving it out, but thankfully I was able to drive it another 3 miles to a preferred gas station. Aren't renters supposed to fill up the gas tank before returning it? Please make sure the fuel in your rentals are filled up decently before issuing it to new renters. The car was very useful during the time it was issued to me. However, when it comes to clarifying with an extension covered under my insurance, it is better to call the 800 number and get transferred to the insurance department. I tried connecting to the provided extension at this location, however nobody answers the call.I promptly returned my rental on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11:43AM, one day before my insurance's rental coverage expires. I returned the rental car with full tank and completely vacuumed. (Please see attached screenshots with time stamps). The attendant (who looks like he's in his mid 50s, of South Asian descent) was very rude and dismissive. He just yelled at me, "you're fine. Just go! I'll send you an email."48 hours later on August 18, 2025, I called the 800 number and the agent said my rental has not been closed out yet. I informed the agent that I returned my rental car exactly one business day before my coverage expires on August 17. I should not get charged an extra day out of pocket because I returned the rental on August 16th. I also tried calling the number at this location (with the expectation to speak with one of their attendants and close out my rental), but nobody is answering the phone. The line kept ringing for 20 minutes and nobody answered my call. (Please see screenshot of my unanswered call). This is ubsurd and preposterous!Update (as of 8/19/2025 at 3:31PM): 72 hours later, I finally received a return confirmation receipt via email. I was only charged a vehicle license fee and some tax. Please do better at issuing and closing out your rentals in a timely fashion, especially when a rental is returned way in advance.
