Upon arriving at the airport on Friday, we were informed that the reserved vehicle was not available. Instead, we were given a 5-passenger vehicle and told to return Saturday morning to receive the correct class of vehicle—despite already being charged for the larger vehicle.On Saturday morning, we attempted to contact the SYR location multiple times by phone with no response. We then drove to the location, where my husband was told that a suitable vehicle might become available later that day.When I arrived at the counter, I noticed two 7-passenger vehicles in the Hertz return lot and asked to speak with the Manager. I was met by an employee named Thomas, who asked what the issue was. I explained the situation and showed him photos of the available vehicles. He dismissed my concerns and told me to speak with my husband, claiming the Manager had already spoken with him. I again requested to speak with the Manager, but Thomas said he would call him “when he got a minute,” estimating a 15-minute wait. He then took a sip of his coffee and asked me to move aside, despite there being no other customers in line.I refused to move until the Manager was contacted, expressing frustration at the poor attitude and lack of willingness to help. Eventually, the Manager, Perry, arrived and confirmed that a 7-passenger vehicle was available. He instructed Thomas to exchange the cars.Given the inconvenience, lack of communication, and dismissive customer service, we will not be recommending or renting from Hertz in the future.
October 13 · Deb KEvery time I rent from Hertz I have an issue. This time was no different. The line was insane as they had one person working the counter., I waited nearly an hour and a half in line. The vehicle I received was filthy and the chargers, CarPlay and Bluetooth were not working. Photo attached isn't even the worst of itEdited…..came parents weekend, this time the wait for pick up was reasonable! They had 3 people working. I returned my vehicle on Sunday morning. Received an invoice and was charged for a third day despite a return prior to 10am, they say I returned at 11pm on 9/28. I reached out to corporate for a refund. I will be disputing the charges if I don’t hear back.
September 29 · Robyn CohanIf only I could have given them a negative 10 points. Worst experience ever. Traveling all day for business. A Gold Member and arrive at the hertz counter in the airport to tremendous lines both regular and gold. Three people at the counter doing nothing but pretending to be busy. God forbid if someone approaches the counter they scream at you and tell you to stay in line and wait till called. Finally saw someone go to the counter and was there for a while. When he walked away I asked him what was going on and he said they have no cars. They took my name and said they’d call. Unbelievable. The guy Infront of me said they had this same issue two weeks ago. After 30 minutes of waiting and knowing I had a two hour drive ahead of me I called my travel agency. They were able to change time to National. Thankfully they had cars. They said Hertz books 75% over all the time and results in no cars. Ridiculous!!!! Do not book with hertz. I notified our company to stop contracting with them due to this and they said they handle it. Why are you overbooking. If someone doesn’t show you still get to charge them and you can always take wallops for those cars not picked up. The entire staff was very rude. Why couldn’t they have told people they have no cars you’ll need to find other transportation rather than yell at people to get back.
August 08 · aadair7007Well there were many problems. The car I booked was unavailable. I only needed it for a short time so it wasn’t too big of a problem until they put me in a car that had no working AC. They then placed me in a bigger SUV. It worked fine. Returning was confusing and not organized in any fashion. I was told to circle the anirport and just place the car in a spot. I returned the key to the front desk to a person to then be charged for multiple days that I no longer even had the car. My one day of service somehow ended with me being charged for a week! How is it that they didn’t realize they had the car back for that many days and also never called me to check where the car was? My rental was only for a few hours and I never reached out about extending. Then they randomly see it a week later and charge me for their mistake of never completing the return? It’s unacceptable! In this economy to randomly see I’m being charged $400 in error! And then having to send a random “contact us” message and not being able to immediately rectify the problem is bad business. What’s customer service for if I’m just guided to sending a message? Calling the actual hertz location that I rented from was also a fail. No one answered the phone.
October 05 · Jacariah ParkerWill I never learn. Everytime I rent from Hertz, it is bad. After time passes, I forget and give them another shot. Amazing, but the experience gets worse each time. Surprise airport fees, taxes, surcharges, totaling approximately $150. I had to email my gas rececipt and prove I filled the tank in order to have Hertz remove the $81 fuel and "service" fee automatically applied....when the attendant could have simply checked the fuel gauge when I returned the car. I guess this is how they rip people and business travelers off that don't check the final invoice or have time to dig out the receipt, scan it and PROVE the car fuel tank was full. I would give a 0 if I could. Oh, and I forgot, I reserved a hybrid, but it was not available when I arrived. I guess this seemed immaterial in comparison to the $150 excessive surprise fees. No wonder the company is in Chapter 11. Not sure the court should permit reorganization.
