Thrifty Car Rental Introduce
For travelers arriving in the Twin Cities or residents needing reliable transportation directly from the hub of regional travel, Thrifty Car Rental at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) provides a comprehensive selection of vehicles and specialized services. Located strategically on airport property, this branch acts as a primary gateway for visitors and a convenient resource for local Minnesotans.
Thrifty is a globally recognized car rental agency, and this specific MSP location is notable for its commitment to inclusive business practices, proudly identifying as a women-owned business. It provides a full spectrum of rental options, from fuel-efficient compact sedans for quick trips around the metro area to spacious SUVs and minivans perfect for exploring Minnesota's natural beauty or accommodating family travel. The goal is simple: to offer cost-effective and convenient car rental solutions right where customers need them most—at the airport.
However, potential customers should be aware that, as with any high-volume airport location, customer experiences can vary. While the convenience of the location and the availability of discount programs are major positives, some public feedback has occasionally raised concerns regarding vehicle preparation and responsiveness to post-rental service issues. Informed renters are encouraged to thoroughly check their vehicle upon pickup and document any concerns immediately to ensure the best possible experience.
The Thrifty Car Rental counter is strategically situated at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), placing it within the main flow of ground transportation for maximum traveler convenience.
- Address: 7150 Humphrey Dr, Minneapolis, MN 55450, USA
This address positions the facility within the consolidated rental car area of the airport, which is typically well-served by airport signage and shuttle systems, ensuring a fast transition from baggage claim to your rental vehicle. MSP's car rental operations are often located near the parking ramps of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and customers should follow the specific directions provided by Thrifty or MSP ground transportation signs upon arrival.
Accessibility is a key priority at this major travel hub location, providing an easier rental experience for all customers, including those with mobility challenges:
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: The counter and office area are equipped with an accessible entrance, facilitating smooth access for customers utilizing wheelchairs or other mobility aids.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Accessible parking spaces are provided within the airport’s rental car area for convenient pick-up and return.
Because this is an airport-based rental counter, hours of operation are generally extended to accommodate flight schedules, though customers should always verify the specific hours for Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 operations directly with the company.
Thrifty Car Rental at MSP offers a diverse and competitive range of rental services tailored for airport travelers, local residents, and groups.
- Vehicle Fleet Variety: A wide array of car classes is available to suit diverse needs, budgets, and the varied weather conditions of Minnesota:

- Mid-size and Full-size Sedans for comfortable long-distance travel across the state.
- SUVs (e.g., Compact, Mid-size, and Large SUVs) which are highly popular in Minnesota for their versatility, cargo space, and ability to handle winter conditions.
- Minivans and Vans to accommodate large families or groups traveling to Minnesota's many lakes or attractions.
- One-Way Rentals: The ability to pick up a car at MSP and drop it off at another Thrifty location, which is a key service for cross-country moves, road trips, or multi-city business itineraries.
- Customer Loyalty Program: Access to the Blue Chip Express Rental Program for expedited counter service and faster, more seamless check-in and check-out processes for frequent renters.
- Rental Extras and Add-ons: Customers can often rent supplemental equipment, such as child car seats, GPS navigation units, and options for toll payment (PlatePass®).
Several key features make the Thrifty MSP location a notable choice for renters in Minnesota:
- Identifies as Women-Owned: This branch contributes to the diversity of business ownership in the Twin Cities, which is a positive highlight for community members prioritizing support for diverse enterprises.
- Active Military Discounts: Thrifty offers special savings and perks for active-duty U.S. military personnel, veterans, National Guard and Reserve members, and their families, particularly through programs like Veterans Advantage, demonstrating a commitment to service members.
- Accepted Payment Methods: Providing flexibility for a variety of customers:
- Credit Cards: All major credit cards are accepted for the rental transaction.
- Debit Cards: Debit cards are generally accepted, especially with proof of return travel (flight ticket) and specific identification requirements typical of airport locations.
- Airport Convenience: The in-terminal or adjacent location provides unmatched convenience, eliminating the need for off-site shuttles, a critical factor for travelers arriving with luggage or after a long flight.
For making reservations, checking on car availability, or addressing concerns regarding a rental, the Thrifty Car Rental MSP branch can be contacted using the following information. Given the high-volume nature of an airport facility, using the toll-free corporate number is often standard procedure.

For Minnesotans and those visiting the state, the primary draw of the Thrifty Car Rental location at MSP is its unparalleled convenience and the potential for budget-friendly rates. The airport location saves valuable time and hassle immediately upon arrival, allowing travelers to transition quickly into their plans, whether heading North to the Boundary Waters, West to the Dakotas, or into the heart of Minneapolis for business. The company’s focus on providing a large selection, including versatile SUVs perfect for Minnesota’s climate and landscape, is a significant advantage.
Furthermore, the added benefit of supporting a women-owned business and the availability of active military discounts provides clear value for specific segments of the local community. For budget-minded travelers, Thrifty’s historical reputation for competitive pricing can be a major deciding factor.
However, local users are advised to prioritize preparation to mitigate potential issues, given some of the negative feedback regarding service and vehicle cleanliness. To ensure a positive rental experience, renters should take the following steps: confirm all reservation details in advance, enroll in the Blue Chip program for expedited service, inspect the vehicle thoroughly for cleanliness and mechanical integrity before leaving the lot, and utilize the one-way rental service if their travel plans necessitate a different drop-off location. By leveraging the company's discount programs and being proactive at the time of pickup, customers can maximize the convenience and value offered by this easily accessible MSP location.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Horrible service, I rent a car from Minneapolis Airport to Chicago, I get a Toyota corolla, and after 15 minutes driving the car start failing, I have to come back to the airport, and the attendant took the car key, he was so rude,I'd report to him to the manager at the airport., I submit a complaint to the company, but they never reply to me. Feels like they don't care about their customers.
July 26 · José PérezThrifty is by far the worst rental company I have ever utilized. The lack of customer service is disgusting. DO NOT RENT A CAR THROUGH THRIFTY.We rented a car in August of 2021 from MSP Airport for several hundred dollars (>$500) as we were planning to drive it cross country to bring my daughter to school. When we arrived at the airport and checked in at the counter, we were told we had to wait an additional 30-45 minutes while the team sanitized and cleaned the vehicle per COVID protocols. I waited for the car and my daughter returned to her apartment to finish packing up. After hitting the road with the car we began to realize how disgusting the interior of the car was -- sticky substances on the surfaces, white substances spilt on the arm rests, EMPTY ALCOHOL BOTTLES littered throughout the car, and tons of hair, crumbs and trash (granola bar wrappers) littered in the interior. Immediately, we called Thrifty on the phone only to be told that we needed to submit a formal complaint online. I did that within the hour and here we are a year later and we have heard nothing from customer service regarding the complaint. I followed up several times by phone and spoke to a different customer service representative each time only to be told that they were working on it. Then when I called at the end of September they said they had closed the "case" because I had agreed to a discount on our next rental (NEWS FLASH: I never agreed to anything. I asked for a full refund). When I said I did NOT agree to that as compensation for what had occurred they said it's been 30 days and all claims have to be processed within 30 days, so it was now case closed. The latest email we received stated: "We also checked prior to your reservation and did not see any documentation associated with the vehicle complaints."Absolutely pathetic. We even spoke with a representative here in Boston when we returned the vehicle, and they did NOTHING to help us. Told us to submit photos and concerns online.
June 19 · K PHorrible customer service. Samira (the manager at the Gold Hertz counter- directly related to Thrifty) hung up on my husband, left me at the counter, walked out the door, got in her car, and drove away. I had been sent from the Thrifty counter to speak to her since my personal credit card was not being accepted and they wanted to up the charge to over $500 to use my debit card. They refused to let me use my company credit card (my last resort and third form of payment) because my name wasn’t on it, saying my husband had to be present even though it was labeled as “field” which means it can be dispersed to any employee that needs to use it. When my husband (the owner of the company of said credit card) tried to explain this to Samira, she hung up on him, handed me back my phone and proceeded to gather her things, walk out the door, and drive off.I went back downstairs where the supervisor kept speaking over me, pulling company cards out of his wallet to show me how his name is on them- he did this three different times, interrupting me as I explained I had a valid company card and that the company was owned by my husband and I. It says the company name and “field 3” on it. I told him my other company card has the company name and “fleet” on it- this is specifically so the cards can be dispersed to any employee that may need to use them. He finally told me to call my bank, which I did, and they confirmed all three forms of payment I had were valid. They told me Thrifty was in the wrong and were doing some sort of inquiry on my personal credit card instead of actually putting in an amount to charge it, which is why it wasn’t going through. The bank suggested I either try explaining to Thrifty how my payment was valid, or try a different rental company. This whole experience took an hour and a half. I finally walked over to the Enterprise counter and had keys in 5 minutes using my personal credit card. Enterprise was also confused as to why Thrifty wouldn’t accept my form of payment.Avoid Thrifty Car Rental at all costs!!! I highly recommend Enterprise- polite, professional, efficient, and reliable (unlike Thrifty)
February 03 · JNTerrible experience. Samira was a real treat😤 she did absolutely nothing to remedy the situation. She chose to leave my wife crying at the desk. Turned out she wasn’t running the credit card machine correctly. I’ll never rent from thrifty car rental again. Enterprise was fantastic. I really hope someone teaches that girl what customer service is.For thrifty…. Her name is Samaria at Minneapolis airport location, she claimed to be the supervisor.
February 04 · Brian WoodThrifty provided me with a defective car (leaking tire) at the time of rental. When the tire went flat, I was provided with very little customer service, as all customer service is located off-shore and are not empowered to help customers. The Thrifty location at the Minneapolis airport does not have local telephone number, and their agents refused to help, and referred me to the national telephone number. I will never rent from Thrifty again. As further evidence, the Response from the Owner below directs one to Thrifty/Hertz's national website, with no opportunity for human interaction or discussion. This is not customer service.
