Dollar Car Rental - Lehigh Valley International Airport Introduce
For residents and visitors arriving in the greater Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania, securing reliable transportation quickly upon landing is essential. Dollar Car Rental, conveniently located at the Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) in Allentown, positions itself as a key provider for travelers seeking access to the state's highways and the local communities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton. Operating directly from the airport, this agency aims to provide a fast and efficient start to your Pennsylvania journey, whether you're here for business in the thriving commercial centers or to explore the historical and cultural offerings of the area.
Dollar Car Rental is a globally recognized brand, offering a wide array of vehicle classes from economical compact cars suitable for city driving to spacious SUVs for family trips across the Poconos. A notable feature of this particular location is its official identification as a women-owned business, a point of pride and distinction within the Pennsylvania business community. Furthermore, the agency actively supports military personnel by offering specific active military discounts, providing valuable savings for those who serve. They also offer a range of modern payment options, including acceptance of both major credit and debit cards, along with NFC mobile payments, catering to diverse customer preferences.
It is crucial for any potential renter in Pennsylvania to understand that the convenience of an airport location sometimes comes with complex policies and procedures, which can be challenging to navigate. The reviews for this specific branch highlight significant issues with clarity on security deposits, prepaid bookings, and communication, suggesting that all customers—especially those new to renting or under the age of 25—should proactively confirm all fees, policies, and terms directly with the local branch and their booking agent before arrival to ensure a smooth transaction.
The Dollar Car Rental office is situated directly within the premises of the Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), ensuring maximum convenience for arriving passengers. This prime location means no need for extended shuttles or off-site transfers, getting Pennsylvania travelers on the road faster.
- Address: 3311 Airport Rd, Allentown, PA 18109, USA.
- On-Site Airport Access: Located within the main airport facility, making the transition from airplane to rental car seamless.
- Parking: The facility offers on-site parking, which is valuable for customers driving their personal vehicle to the airport for long-term parking while they use a rental.
The location is dedicated to ensuring accessibility for all Pennsylvania travelers, as evidenced by its robust features designed for ease of access:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot
As a major national brand operating at a Pennsylvania airport hub, Dollar Car Rental provides a full range of rental services designed to meet diverse travel needs:
- Extensive Vehicle Fleet: Offers a variety of car classes, including economical compacts (like the Chevrolet Spark or Ford Focus), standard sedans (such as the Toyota Corolla or Chevrolet Malibu), minivans (like the Chrysler Pacifica), SUVs (such as the Nissan Rogue or Chevrolet Equinox), and even specialty vehicles like luxury cars and convertibles.
- Electric Vehicle (EV) Rentals: The fleet includes Electric Vehicles (EVs), though renters should be aware that the local charging infrastructure, particularly for rapid charging, may present challenges in the Lehigh Valley area. Renters should thoroughly discuss charging requirements and range limitations with the staff if opting for an EV.
- Flexible Payment Options: Accepts major Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and NFC Mobile Payments, providing flexibility for Pennsylvania customers. Note: Debit card rentals often require more stringent security deposit holds and checks.
- Rental Extras and Add-ons: Provides standard rental additions such as GPS units, child seats, and the option to add additional authorized drivers for an extra daily charge.
- Young Renter Policy: Allows rentals for drivers aged 20 and over (with additional fees), a notable policy for younger Pennsylvania residents or students who may be traveling.
The Dollar Car Rental location at ABE promotes several distinctive features that may appeal to Pennsylvania residents and travelers:
- Women-Owned Business: The local operation is proudly identified as a women-owned business, demonstrating a commitment to diversity and local entrepreneurship within the Pennsylvania market.
- Active Military Discounts: Provides special pricing and consideration for active members of the military, a valuable benefit for service members traveling through the Lehigh Valley.
- Multiple Payment Acceptance: The acceptance of Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and NFC Mobile Payments (such as Apple Pay or Google Pay) provides modern convenience and payment flexibility for a wider customer base.
- Airport Convenience: Being located directly at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) is a major time-saving feature for air travelers, eliminating the need for off-site transportation.
- Diverse Fleet Selection: The wide range of vehicles, from economical options to SUVs and electric vehicles, ensures that the agency can meet almost any Pennsylvania travel itinerary, whether it's navigating city streets or tackling mountain roads.
Before proceeding with any reservation, especially for prepaid bookings or rentals involving debit cards, it is strongly advised that Pennsylvania customers contact the local ABE branch directly to confirm all rental terms, security deposit amounts, and specific fees that may apply to their reservation.
- Address: 3311 Airport Rd, Allentown, PA 18109, USA

- Mobile Phone (Direct Line): +1 610-264-4571
For Pennsylvania travelers who prioritize convenience and specific discounts, Dollar Car Rental at Lehigh Valley International Airport offers a compelling option. The key benefits are undeniable: immediate access right outside the terminal, the availability of discounts for active military personnel, and the inclusive payment policy that accepts debit cards—a feature not universally offered by all rental companies. The fact that it is a women-owned enterprise also resonates with customers looking to support diverse local businesses.
However, it is vital to acknowledge and address the serious concerns raised by recent customer feedback. Accounts of unexpected large security deposit holds, lack of communication, and apparent "bait-and-switch" tactics with vehicle types, particularly the "Manager's Special" involving electric vehicles without proper charging guidance for the local area, indicate a risk for customers who do not thoroughly prepare.
Therefore, this agency is worth choosing only for the well-informed Pennsylvania traveler. To ensure a positive experience, you must:
- Call the Local Branch in Advance: Confirm the exact, itemized total charge and security deposit amount. Do not rely solely on third-party booking confirmations.
- Clarify Prepaid Bookings: If you prepaid, specifically ask what additional charges (taxes, fees, insurance, security deposit) will be applied at the counter and what the total hold on your card will be.
- Avoid the "Manager's Special" if Unfamiliar with EVs: If you are not familiar with the local Lehigh Valley charging infrastructure or do not want an electric vehicle, avoid this option and book a specific car class.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Had a full round trip planned to visit my girlfriend's hometown, everything went well except for the rental car. I'm assuming they thought they could take advantage easier because I am in my early 20's. Upon arrival at the airport, I talked to a woman at the desk, everything was going smooth, I'd already paid for this car months in advance so all I'd have to worry about was the insurance and security deposit. Tell me why she said it'd cost me $760?? And when I said that's not right, I've already paid for this vehicle, she tried to tell me she " had to do this with her son earlier in the week, too " and to " just call your credit card company and have them approve the charge anyway ". Not that it's anyone's business, but my limit on this specific card is $400. I'm not trashing my credit just for a car rental company to screw me over when I've already paid beforehand? In what world does this make sense. Anyway, I made a few calls and decided I'd rather just cancel and get a refund and use Lyft or Uber, she said " oh no we can't refund it, you paid through a third party company so I can't do anything about it. " So NOW they want to recognize that the car has already been paid for?It took me, my girlfriend, my dad, and my girlfriend's aunt a solid 4 hours in phonecalls to different people to get a refund. Not to mention the entire time, the people working AT THIS AIRPORT WOULD NOT ANSWER THE PHONE WHEN THEIR OWN BOSS WAS CALLING THEM so it took EVEN LONGER FOR EVERYONE TO GET SOMETHING DONE. What a waste, a ridiculous and easily avoidable waste, disgusting. If I could leave no stars I would. Shame on them for trying to take advantage of someone by assuming they don't know how credit works because of their age as well. In what world does the cheapest car, prepaid, cost an extra $760 on top of the already paid ~$450 + a would-be $200 security deposit. To anyone new to car rentals and searching for a trustworthy company, you will not find it here. They will doublecharge, add extra fees, and lie to your face all for greed. Do not ever do business with this company, ever, even in desperation please, just go with Lyft, Uber or Turo. I'd love nothing more than to contact higher ups, but even they don't listen to anyone.
September 26 · DreamDO NOT DO MANAGER SPECIAL they will bait and switch. They stuck with an electric car said it can be charged at home-sure if you have more hours to charge it than drive it. None of that was explained despite my hesitance to accept an electric car and admitting I knew nothing about them. This area is not good to find rapid charging stations. I could not even use it for the entirety of my rental and will likely be charged the top off the electric bc the rapid charging station is more that 10 miles away and only charged to 80%. Multiple calls offered nothing but attitude and to tell me to call road side assistance, not sure what that would do but they didn’t pick up my 5 calls anyway. A call to corporate offered nothing and expressing my frustration when dropping off the car offered even less. Hertz is also in my list over issues when I was renting in Puerto Rico, still have unresolved issues with them!
April 22 · Monica SamsonI rented a car from Dollar on May 20th. The lady at the counter was very nice and gave me a new sedan. I drive it to our farm 30 miles away all good. However when I went to use it for a quick trip into Philadelphia it appeared the battery was dead. No time to jump it so called Lyft. On Sunday May 25th it was time to catch my flight and return car. After many failed attempts to jump start the battery called Dollar Roadside Assistance. She was able to see there was nothing wrong with the battery but instead it was a dead FOB Key. Instructed me to hold key on starter & not to stop for gas or anything until I dropped it off! One start only & already late for flight. Then to add insult to injury the lady at the counter charged me an additional $72.03 for a car I could use. Hopefully there will be a voucher for another car or I will contest charges on my credit card
June 03 · Liz HarveyThis was my first time renting a car the experience was easy the employee was polite and courteous the car was clean smooth driving im 62 year's old so I had to get used to the electronic system 😅 that was a funny experience but I managed it.
August 08 · Victoria QueenWorst experience I’ve had. Short summary was given an electric vehicle at 43% at EWR airport. The receipt given to me said the vehicle was at 100%. Integrity issue. Then of course the vehicle battery gets low and i need to charge it the same day i get it from airport. After 13 hours straight charging the car charged maybe 10% so for a 7 day rental i would have to charge my car for 2 days straight just to even get decent use of the vehicle. I call customer service and I’m told on the phone i can switch the car out for no additional fees. I then go to switch my car at ABE airport and am told there will be no additional fees. I drop the car off and after agreeing to an estimated $455. I was charged $844 to include an inter city fee of $300. Dollar car rental lacks customer service and integrity. It would have been perfectly acceptable to tell me if i rented another car i would be charged double the fee. If that is your policy it is your policy and although i think it’s unreasonable it is reality. However, to lie over the phone and then to my face and ultimately charge me double because i had an issue during the rental is completely unacceptable to do to anybody under any circumstance. Will never be returning and have no received any emails back based on my complaints.
