Budget Car Rental Introduce
For residents of Pennsylvania and travelers arriving in the Lehigh Valley, securing dependable and affordable ground transportation is often a top priority. The Budget Car Rental location, conveniently situated at the Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) in Allentown, provides a crucial service as both a car rental agency and a van rental agency. This location is perfectly positioned to serve those flying into the region, as well as local users in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton who need a rental for business, vacation, or temporary replacement while their personal vehicle is being serviced. With a fleet that typically ranges from fuel-efficient compact cars to spacious SUVs, minivans, and 12- or 15-passenger vans, the agency aims to cater to nearly every travel scenario the diverse Pennsylvania landscape demands, from a quick trip to the Poconos to navigating the historic streets of Allentown's downtown.
The facility is designed for customer convenience, offering essential onsite services and modern payment methods. Moreover, it is committed to serving all members of the community, notably offering active military discounts. However, customers should approach the rental process with informed caution. As detailed in recent customer reviews, the experience at this location can be inconsistent. While some customers praise the friendly and considerate nature of the staff, particularly during vehicle return, others have faced significant issues. These concerns include not receiving the reserved vehicle class, receiving cars that were not properly cleaned (unvacuumed, stained upholstery, dirty windows, and heavy cigarette smoke odor despite non-smoking policies), and encountering vehicles with maintenance issues like incorrect tire pressure or inoperable dashboard displays on longer trips. A common reported frustration is the staff informing customers that same-day or prepaid online reservations are not always honored, with one agent allegedly stating that absolutely no refunds are available for prepaid bookings, which is a major concern for consumers.
Location and Accessibility
The Budget Car Rental branch is strategically located right at the Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), offering maximum convenience for air travelers and being easily accessible from major roadways in the region, including Route 22 and I-78.
The official address for this essential Pennsylvania travel hub is:
3311 Airport Rd, Allentown, PA 18109, USA
Being an airport location, the office is situated within the terminal or adjacent rental car facility, streamlining the pick-up and drop-off process for travelers. Its airport placement also makes it a straightforward drive for local customers utilizing Airport Road to access the facility.
In line with a commitment to inclusive service, the Budget location provides excellent accessibility features for patrons. This includes a clear wheelchair accessible entrance and dedicated wheelchair accessible parking lot. These provisions ensure that customers with mobility challenges can manage the rental transaction and access their vehicle without unnecessary difficulty, a crucial detail for an airport-based service in the Lehigh Valley.
Services Offered
The Budget Car Rental location at ABE functions as a full-service provider, offering a variety of mobility solutions to the Pennsylvania market.
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Customers can choose from a broad selection of vehicles, including Economy, Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Full-Size, Premium, and Luxury sedans, as well as various SUVs (Intermediate, Premium, Full-Size), and specialty vehicles like Convertibles and Midsize Pickups.
- Van and People-Mover Rentals: Crucially, the agency offers Van rental agency services, featuring Minivans and larger Passenger Vans (up to 12 or 15-passenger capacity), which are vital for group excursions to places like Dorney Park or a larger family touring Historic Bethlehem.
- Onsite Services: All transactions, including vehicle pick-up and drop-off, are managed onsite at the airport facility, offering maximum convenience for travelers. This often includes a shuttle service to the main terminal or is located within a short walk of the baggage claim area.
- After-Hours Returns: Like most airport locations, this branch offers an after-hours return procedure, typically involving placing keys in a designated drop box located at the rental counter inside the terminal. Customers should verify the exact process and their responsibility for the vehicle until the office officially reopens.
- Payment Flexibility: The agency accepts a variety of payment forms, including major Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and modern NFC mobile payments, offering speed and convenience at the counter. Specific security and deposit requirements must be met when using a debit card.
- Optional Rental Products: Customers are offered optional services such as Damage Waiver (DW), Extended Protection, and refueling service options (pre-pay fuel, Budget refills, or customer refills), allowing for a customizable rental experience.
Features / Highlights
This location highlights key aspects of service and accessibility that distinguish it in the competitive Lehigh Valley rental market.

What is Worth Choosing
The Budget Car Rental location at Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) is a valuable and highly convenient option for local users and inbound travelers across Pennsylvania. Its primary value proposition lies in its airport-terminal location, offering the quickest transition from a flight to a rental car, making it ideal for time-sensitive business trips or family arrivals into the Allentown area. The extensive fleet, which includes specialty vehicles like large SUVs and passenger vans, also makes it a practical choice for group travel to regional attractions like Dorney Park or a family reunion in the greater Lehigh Valley.
Crucially, the agency is worth choosing for those who qualify for the active military discount, as these substantial savings enhance the overall value proposition. Furthermore, the commitment to accessibility is a key factor, ensuring all customers can navigate the facility with ease.
However, potential customers must be fully aware of the service inconsistencies reported by users. The highly negative feedback regarding the substitution of reserved vehicles, the condition and cleanliness of the rental cars (especially non-smoking violations and lack of basic maintenance like proper tire pressure or washer fluid), and the alleged refusal to honor online refund requests are serious concerns. To ensure a positive experience, customers should:
- Confirm the reservation with the local branch the day before pick-up, specifically asking about the availability of the exact reserved vehicle class.
- Thoroughly inspect the vehicle before leaving the lot, checking for cleanliness, damage, and basic maintenance items like fluid levels and tire pressure (as one reviewer helpfully noted).
- Document any pre-existing damage, maintenance concerns, or issues like a smoke-filled cabin immediately with an agent and obtain written acknowledgment of the vehicle’s condition.
- Be prepared to escalate any disputes over prepaid reservations or vehicle condition immediately to a manager, and retain all documentation, as the no-refund policy reported by one customer contradicts expected business practices and could lead to significant dissatisfaction.
By taking these steps, customers can leverage the geographic convenience and beneficial discounts of the Budget ABE location while mitigating the risks associated with the reported operational and maintenance deficiencies, ultimately maximizing the chance for a smooth and successful rental experience in Pennsylvania.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1CHOOSE ANOTHER AGENCY. 🙄😕🥴 First, was told they do not honor same day online reservations; did not receive vehicle I reserved AND prepaid for online. Second, vehicle I did receive was severely scratched and dented over 75% of the exterior..and was not cleaned. Third, the upholstery was heavily soiled or stained…and not vacuumed or cleaned. Fourth, the windows were filthy; some had heavy streaks while others weren’t wiped at all. Fifth, I reserved a NON-SMOKING vehicle yet the interior smelled of strong cigarette smoke…even with warning stickers on both doors about $450 cleaning fee if smoked in; I am extremely sensitive to smoke of any kind being asthmatic. Sixth, the washer fluid reservoir for the windshield was filled with water, NOT washer fluid; it was very hard. To get bugs off the windshield. The staff member who helped me at the time of pick up has a very difficult position…telling customers their online reservation can’t or won’t be honored; yet she did her best to explain it to me. Still, because of what she told me about online reservations, I was reluctant to go back to her to refuse the vehicle because of its conditions (see all of first paragraph). I needed a vehicle, and being disabled I didn’t have the luxury of going back into the counter to complain about what rightfully should have been rejected based on the vehicle’s condition. The 2 women who assisted with the vehicle’s return were very friendly and considerate…they apologized for the condition of the vehicle and did the best anyone could expect in means of diffusing the negative emotions I felt about the rental…even though those emotions were understandable given the issues with the vehicle.I did not receive what I ordered and prepaid for online. The agent who helped me when I picked up the vehicle told me there were absolutely NO refunds, partial or otherwise, with ANY online reservation. There should be some adjustment made for this rental; I even paid to wash it myself (the outside via a car wash). I am not satisfied at all.
November 22 · Chris GreenWhen I arrived at the counter to pick up the rental, I was asked for a credit card but had already entered that info when requested by email, but OK, here's my credit card AGAIN.The Suburban was a 2023 but already had 65,xxx miles on it. It wasn't necessarily clean or damage free, inside or out. But OK, maybe this is how a Budget rental goes. Before leaving the airport I did check the tire pressures using the onboard system and found the tires at 30, 30, 28 and 31 PSI with a recommended 35 PSI found on the sticker of the drivers door. No problem, I'll air them up before we leave.Truck ran great, until Tuesday, July 17th when we went to dinner and the dash never lit up. The infotainment screen in the middle of the truck had the start up / CHEVY splash screen but the driver information center never came back on the rest of the trip. No speedometer, no gas guage, no visible turn signals, no RPMs. All the information a dash normally provides was gone.We were 8.5 hours from home so we had lots of concerns. We did call to make Budget aware of the situation. They offered to have a tow truck driver pick me up and drive me 3 hours to another location. I would then have to drive the 3 hours back to our vacation spot. This trip interruption was not ideal and we decided to take the chance with it.At first I was concerned this was the start of a bigger problem but that never happened. Truck ran fine the whole way home and we were sure to keep the tank from going anywhere near empty. It is of my humble opinion that this truck should be pulled from rotation until it can be looked at and fixed. It was an anxiety filled Budget rental to say the least.
July 28 · J KushPoor experience. I returned my car at 1:00pm EST, the time it was due in was 2:00pm EST. I waited in line to return my car at the counter, the desk clerk advised me to drop my key in the lock box on the counter and paperwork in the box. I received an email 10 hours later that I was charged an additional 3 hours until 5:00pm. I shouldn’t be charged for the clerks mistake. I returned early but get charged an additional $42.00. Do not rent here as the customer service is poor.
June 29 · Rich LuongRented a car in Allentown. At time of pickup, the printer was down. Not given (or signed a contract) sent a contract later stating I agreed to a pre-tank fill up at 70 something dollars which I did not agree to.Drove the car for less than 50 miles around Allentown. Parked the car for about 12 hours to do a New York City excursion. Upon returning to the car, as we were driving to the hotel, the steering wheel started to shake and a tire pressure warning illuminated.Contacted the emergency roadside assistance, which Miteko told me, since I was in a “safe place” we could do option A- change out the tire (there was no tire in the wheel well) or we could option B—wait until 8 AM because everything was closed. Didn’t really have an option. The next morning I contacted emergency roadside assistance again and Shannon and I discussed that it would be quicker if I took the car back to the airport and exchanged it. She asked me if I was comfortable with that option and I wanted to be helpful. I did that and that’s where I found out that I was charged the 70 some dollars for prepaid tank, which I never agreed to. So, the representative told me that I should go top off the tank which was about $10 then she said I could call customer service to get my 70 something dollars back, but she could do nothing about it. I feel like I got the runaround and was made to feel like it was my fault. She said she just wanted to get me into vehicle which she considered an upgrade (I was not comfortable driving a truck) and that I should just be happy and get on my way. By this point, I had lost 12 hours of potential driving time. I took the keys, got in the truck, as soon as I turned on the car, the screen read— Maintenance requiredBoth cars had several dents. I’ve never had an experience where the vehicles looked so beat up, the first one smelled like pot, the service was sketchy (even though I didn’t agree to it, I got charged a full tank of gas). Plus both cars needed service. Finally, I asked, since I lost 12 hours of drive time, could I bring the car in a little bit later at around 1915 and was told that I would be charged and have to contact customer service for a refund. I asked if there was nothing we could do to be proactive instead of reactive, and she said no, that’s how the process works.I rent about 10 cars a year when I travel. I will definitely be staying away from Budget and Avis in the future.
December 22 · renee debusI would advise against renting a vehicle from here. My wife and I had a travel plans change on us so we needed to rent a car. We made a reservation through a program sponsored by AVIS/Budget. The clerk did basically said we dont have inventory to honor that price so the best we can do is a "manager's special." That special was nearly double the quoted price. We were in a bind so went for it. The clerk processed the request then handed us the keys and paperwork, she claimed the gas tank was filled but the gauge doesn't work so disregard it. There was no way for us to check that in the moment. We took pictures and drove off. Five hours later we stopped for gas and filled the tank, the gauge showed full. This means the clerk let us drive off with half a tank, even though we paid full price. I have been in contact with customer service and they have denied my request without reasoning. I would suggest paying a little more for a better experience at any other company besides AVIS/Budget.
