Take good care Transportation Introduce
For individuals and families in the New York region, particularly in Westchester County, securing reliable and compassionate transportation for loved ones with mobility challenges is a critical necessity. Take Good Care Transportation, located in Mount Vernon, NY, specializes in this essential field, operating as a dedicated Handicapped Transportation Service.
This service is not a conventional car rental but a vital part of the community's non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) network, focusing on safe, dignified, and supportive transport for seniors and people with disabilities. Their primary value proposition, as reflected in numerous positive testimonials, is the genuinely kind and courteous nature of their transport personnel, who go beyond simply driving to provide personal assistance and compassion.
Positive experiences highlight the staff's dedication, especially with complex mobility needs, such as assisting a non-ambulatory person up and down a flight of stairs—a service often referred to as 'two-person assist.' The drivers, such as Roy and Christina mentioned by customers, are praised for being lovely, professional, and demonstrating a profound love and compassion for seniors. This level of personalized care is exactly what New York families seek when entrusting the movement of their most vulnerable relatives to a third party.
However, it is important for New York users to note that while their day-to-day wheelchair transportation service is highly regarded and reliable, there have been significant recent issues with complex, critical transports, particularly those requiring gurney or stretcher services. A deeply disappointing incident where a scheduled gurney transport for an elderly mother's surgery was allegedly canceled last minute due to equipment unavailability—despite prior confirmation—has surfaced in customer feedback. This suggests that while they are an excellent choice for routine wheelchair rides, for urgent or specialized needs like stretcher transport, customers should exercise extreme caution and seek multiple confirmations, or consider alternative providers for critical appointments.
Take Good Care Transportation is strategically located in Mount Vernon, a central hub within Westchester County, providing easy access to surrounding areas and the greater New York metropolitan region.
The office is located at: 32 N 9th Ave, Mt Vernon, NY 10550, USA. This address situates the business in a neighborhood setting of Mount Vernon, making it accessible for clients in the area who may be scheduling or coordinating trips. Given the nature of their service, which is almost entirely door-to-door, the physical location acts more as a dispatch and administrative base rather than a customer pick-up point.
Accessibility is inherent in the service itself, as the business is structured around moving individuals with limited mobility. The fleet consists of specialized vehicles (likely ambulettes or vans) equipped to accommodate:
- Clients using standard wheelchairs.
- Clients requiring significant physical assistance, including 'two-person assist' for navigating stairs or complex transfers.
- Clients using stretchers or gurneys (though with the noted recent reliability concerns for this specific equipment).
For New York users, the convenience of a local Westchester-based provider means shorter wait times and better familiarity with local medical facilities, hospitals, and assisted living residences throughout Mount Vernon and its environs.
As a specialized Handicapped Transportation Service, Take Good Care Transportation focuses exclusively on non-emergency medical and quality-of-life transport for individuals with mobility needs.
- Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT): Primary service for routine or scheduled medical appointments, check-ups, and procedures at clinics, doctor’s offices, and hospitals throughout the region.
- Wheelchair Transportation: Dedicated service using ADA-compliant vehicles, ensuring safe boarding and secure travel for all wheelchair users.
- Two-Person Assistance: A premium, compassionate service for patients who require more than one attendant for transfers, including navigating non-ramp accessible entrances or flights of stairs, a crucial offering for many seniors in older New York homes.
- Stretcher/Gurney Transport: Service offered for non-ambulatory patients who must remain lying flat during transport. **(Note: Customers must be aware of reported past issues with reliability for this specific service and confirm availability rigorously in advance, especially for critical needs.)**
- Senior and Elderly Transport: Specialized services for the geriatric population, often including rides to family gatherings, rehabilitation centers, and assisted living facilities, with a strong emphasis on a caring and kind demeanor.
- Reliable Dispatch: Coordination of travel plans to ensure punctuality, particularly for medical appointments where missed time slots can have serious consequences.
The positive attributes of Take Good Care Transportation revolve around the human element of their service, a key differentiator in a field where compassion is as important as efficiency.
- Exceptional Care and Compassion: The overwhelming highlight is the kindness of the staff. Drivers are described as "kind, courteous, lovely with a lovely smile," and possessing "love and compassion for seniors," making the ride a pleasant experience for the client and a comforting one for the family.
- Specialized Mobility Handling: Unlike general taxi or ride-share services, this company provides 'two-person assist' service, demonstrating the capacity and willingness to handle complex transfers, including carrying a patient up and down stairs.
- Professional, Down-to-Earth Personnel: The positive reviews consistently praise the transport men for their pleasant and caring attitudes, confirming a professional yet warm service culture.
- Direct Service Focus: By specializing solely in handicapped transportation, the company’s operations, fleet, and staff training are fully geared towards the specific safety and comfort requirements of clients with limited mobility.
- Local Westchester Base: Located in Mount Vernon, the service is centrally positioned to respond to the needs of the surrounding communities like Yonkers, New Rochelle, and the Bronx, providing local knowledge that often leads to better service.
For New York-area residents looking to schedule a ride, confirm service availability (especially for gurney transport), or inquire about insurance or Medicaid billing, direct contact with the Mt. Vernon office is necessary.

Take Good Care Transportation is worth choosing for New York users seeking routine, non-critical wheelchair transportation for seniors or loved ones with limited mobility. The core strength of this business lies undeniably in the exceptional kindness and professional, personal assistance provided by its drivers. For a regular trip to a dialysis center, rehab, or a non-urgent doctor’s appointment, the compassionate care—including the capacity for ‘two-person assist’—offers immense peace of mind that a loved one will be handled with dignity and courtesy.
The company clearly demonstrates a "love for what they do," which translates into a vastly superior experience compared to less specialized options. However, New York families booking critical or highly specialized services, such as gurney/stretcher transport for surgeries, must proceed with extreme caution due to documented reliability issues in this specific area. For these critical needs, it is advisable to use their service only if you receive an absolute, multi-day confirmation of equipment and staffing, or choose a provider with a flawless track record in complex transport to avoid the profound stress and risk of a last-minute cancellation. For reliable, caring, and local wheelchair ambulette service, however, the positive testimonies confirm its status as a trusted neighborhood provider.

April 30 · Princess⭐☆☆☆☆ – Deeply Disappointed After Years of TrustI’m giving Take Good Care Transportation one star only because, in the past, their wheelchair transportation service has been reliable. Unfortunately, my recent experience was completely unacceptable and has left me extremely disappointed. My elderly mother had a surgery scheduled in NYC and required gurney/stretcher transport, which we arranged in advance. My sister even called the day before to confirm, and was told everything was good to go.Day of the surgery — no one showed up. I called to find out what was going on, and was told that Medicaid had re-routed the trip to another provider. That didn’t sound right, so I called Medicaid directly. They confirmed they never re-route scheduled trips, and their records showed that Take Good Care had canceled because they didn’t have a stretcher available. This was shocking, since just the day before they told us everything was confirmed. Then when we called back, we were told we should have called three days in advance to reconfirm — which makes no sense, especially since it was already confirmed the day before. It feels like they either don’t have an organized system, or they’re choosing to prioritize patients who pay out of pocket over those using Medicaid — which is incredibly unfair and unethical. This mistake nearly cost my mother her surgery and caused a great deal of stress for our entire family. I used to trust this company, but after this experience, I can no longer recommend them — especially for stretcher transport or anything critical.Wheelchair rides? Fine. But if the need is urgent or medical in nature, I strongly suggest finding another provider.
April 18 · jessica artusTake Good Care transportation is the worst transport company I've ever used for the many years I've been disabled and had to utilize ambulance transportation. I used their service on two different appointments and both times they were extremely rude and unprofessional. On my second appointment that I used this company they transferred me from the stretcher to my wheelchair in my home with a bundle of sheets and blankets underneath me that they refused to remove after I asked them 'can we take these sheets and blankets out from underneath me'. They told me that was being disrespectful the way I asked him and that he was not responsible for removing their sheets and stuff from under the patient. They then walked out of my house leaving me hanging out of my wheelchair. My home health aide had to call 911 to have rescue people come and cut the blankets and sheets out from underneath me and from being wrapped around the wheels of my wheelchair. I was very lucky that I didn't land on the floor or else these people would have had a massive lawsuit against them. They were also very rude to my home healthy who is an older gentleman and was having a little difficulty getting into the back door of the van. They told my aide 'let's go get in the van already'I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW NEW YORK STATE IS LICENSING THEM TO TRANSPORT PEOPLE WITH THE WAY THIS COMPANY OPERATES!!!I would never ever recommend this company to anybody else and I would highly suggest to anybody that uses them be very, very careful to protect your safety because of this company's unprofessionalism.I gave them a one star reading because that was the lowest I could give them to write this review.
