Avis Car Rental Introduce
For travelers and local residents in Illinois, Avis Car Rental at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) Multi-Modal Facility (MMF) is a significant and easily accessible transportation hub. As a major player in the global car rental industry, this Avis location, which operates alongside its affiliate Budget, offers a wide range of vehicles, from standard sedans to passenger vans, catering to the diverse needs of Illinois drivers and those flying into the state. Whether you're planning a trip downtown, a family vacation to a Chicago suburb, or require a vehicle for business travel across the region, this airport location provides onsite service and a 24-hour operation for maximum convenience.
However, as with any high-volume airport rental agency, Illinois customers should always approach their booking and return procedures with diligence. While the company aims for customer satisfaction, past experiences from travelers indicate the necessity of clear documentation and careful confirmation of all charges, especially regarding fuel and the final check-in process. We encourage all local users to familiarize themselves with the location's specific procedures to ensure a seamless and anxiety-free experience.
The Avis Car Rental agency at Chicago O'Hare is situated within the airport’s modern Multi-Modal Facility (MMF). This central location is designed to streamline the rental process for airline passengers and local renters alike.
The official address for this major Illinois car rental operation is:
- Address: 10255 W Zemke Blvd, Chicago, IL 60666, USA
Accessibility at the Facility:
- Airport Access: Airline passengers arriving at ORD terminals can easily reach the MMF via the Airport Transit System (ATS), which connects the terminals to the facility. This eliminates the need for an external shuttle bus from the terminals, which is a significant convenience.
- Pickup/Drop-off Procedures: General renters will proceed to the Avis counter on the first floor of the MMF. Avis Preferred members often bypass the counter and proceed directly to their preassigned vehicle on the second floor, following the directions on the Preferred Board or their email. Returns are also handled at this same location within the MMF.
- Parking and Physical Access: The location provides dedicated On-site parking for customers. Crucially, the facility is designed with comprehensive accessibility in mind, featuring a Wheelchair accessible entrance and a Wheelchair accessible parking lot.
This centralized, easy-to-navigate location makes Avis a pragmatic choice for drivers traveling through or residing in the Chicago metropolitan area.
As a full-service car and van rental agency, Avis at O'Hare offers extensive services to meet all road travel requirements in Illinois and beyond:
- Car Rental Agency Services: Providing a vast fleet selection that includes everything from compact and intermediate cars for city travel to full-size sedans, SUVs (Standard, Premium, Full-Size), and luxury vehicles for business or comfort.
- Van Rental Agency Services: Specializing in larger group transportation with options such as Minivan rentals (7- and 8-passenger) and larger Passenger Van rentals (12- and 15-passenger) like the Ford Transit and Chevrolet Express.
- Onsite Services: The location operates as a 24-hour facility for both pick-up and drop-off, a critical service for travelers with early morning or late-night flights at ORD.
- Flexible Payment Options: Accepts multiple forms of payment, including Credit cards, Debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, providing convenience for local and traveling customers. However, note that debit card usage at airport locations often requires a ticketed return travel itinerary.
- Refueling Options: Customers are offered various refueling service options, allowing them to choose between prepaying for fuel, having Avis refill the tank upon return (for a charge), or refueling the vehicle themselves.
- Long Term Rental: Provides options for long-term car rentals, suitable for extended stays in Chicago or Illinois.
The Avis brand and its O'Hare location offer several key features and amenities, but they are also accompanied by important consumer warnings based on reported experiences:
- Active Military Discounts: A valuable highlight is the offering of discounts for active military personnel, acknowledging their service with special rates.
- Extensive Fleet Variety: Avis is known for its wide selection, ensuring renters can find everything from a fuel-efficient economy car to a premium SUV or a large passenger van, depending on their Illinois travel needs.
- 24-Hour Operations: Both the pick-up and drop-off are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, a necessity for a major international airport location like O'Hare.
- Avis Preferred Service: Their loyalty program allows members to skip the counter and proceed directly to their preassigned vehicle, significantly speeding up the pick-up process.
- Essential Warnings on Return Procedures: Based on customer feedback, it is essential for Illinois customers to protect themselves by ensuring the vehicle is properly checked in by an Avis representative. Instances of misplaced vehicles and erroneous charges for extra days have been reported. It is highly recommended to receive and retain a receipt number or other confirmation for the return before leaving the MMF.
- Fuel Policy Scrutiny: Renters must be extremely clear on their choice of fuel option at the counter. Disputed charges for refueling, even when the customer claims to have returned the car full (8/8 fuel level shown on receipt), suggest the necessity of obtaining and keeping a gas receipt, dated and within a short distance (often 5 miles) of the return location, to contest potential refuel fees. A $70 charge for refueling a tank that was allegedly full highlights the need for vigilance.
- Vehicle Condition Note: Renters should inspect their vehicle carefully before leaving the lot. Reports of receiving vehicles with noticeable damage (e.g., dents marked with 'X's) that are still loaned out without repair suggest that a thorough pre-rental inspection by the customer is prudent.
- Association with Budget: Given that Avis and Budget are commonly mentioned as being the same company, customers who have had negative experiences with one may wish to consider alternative rental companies (like Hertz or Sixt, as suggested by a disgruntled customer) for their travel within Illinois and beyond.
For general inquiries, reservations, or assistance related to a current rental at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport location:
- Address: 10255 W Zemke Blvd, Chicago, IL 60666, USA (Multi-Modal Facility)
- Phone: (773) 825-4600
- Mobile Phone: +1 773-825-4600
The primary reason for an Illinois resident or visitor to choose Avis Car Rental at O'Hare is its sheer convenience and operational capacity. The 24-hour service is unmatched for travelers with non-standard flight times, and the location within the Multi-Modal Facility offers direct access via the ATS train, eliminating the common airport rental headache of an offsite shuttle. For those needing large vehicles, the availability of 7-, 12-, and 15-passenger vans makes it an essential resource for group travel, whether for a large family vacation or a corporate outing in the Chicago area. Furthermore, Active military discounts are a commendable feature.
However, the decision to rent from this location must be made with an understanding of the risk of service complications. To ensure a positive experience, Illinois customers should be prepared to:
- Explicitly state and confirm all charges, especially declining the fuel pre-purchase option if they plan to refuel themselves.
- Fill the fuel tank at a station within five miles of the return location and always secure a time-stamped receipt.
- When returning the vehicle, insist on handing the keys directly to a representative and waiting for a formal receipt number that verifies the rental is closed out, thereby preventing erroneous charges for unreturned days. Recording the conversation or taking a photograph of the fuel gauge and mileage at check-in and check-out can provide further peace of mind and protect against disputed charges.
By combining Avis’s extensive selection and airport convenience with a proactive, meticulous approach to the return process, Illinois customers can effectively utilize this major car rental agency for their transportation needs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had a very disappointing experience with Avis in France. When I arrived, the customer service representative was very friendly and even upgraded me to a BMW convertible, which I truly appreciated. Unfortunately, the good experience ended there. When I returned the car a few days later, I handed the keys directly to an Avis representative at the airport counter. To my surprise, I received two phone calls afterward claiming I had never returned the car. They attempted to charge my debit card for extra rental days that I did not use.Thankfully, I was able to track the vehicle in the Avis app and prove that it was on their lot. Only then did they “find” the car and close out the rental. While the issue was eventually resolved, it was extremely stressful and frustrating to be accused of not returning a vehicle I had clearly handed back, and to have my card charged for days I never had it.A rental company should have accurate return procedures in place — mistakes like this waste the customer’s time, cause unnecessary anxiety, and undermine trust. Also, if you are renting a car and planning on parking in Paris, just know it’s €150 to park a car every night they go by the tag and since it’s registered to a rental car company it’s a flat rate of 💶150 anywhere you go
August 13 · Claudia MartinezDo NOT recommend renting from Avis or probably Budget even for that matter since they are the same company. I rent cars very frequently and I usually rent from Hertz or Sixt, but this time I decided to rent from Avis due to best pricing at the time for a minivan.First, which I wouldn’t have even bothered with a review for this. The minivan had a dent on the front driver side around where the door opened and the dent had 7 white x’s marked on it and caused the door to creak whenever I opened it. Doesn’t look great to driving around with a damaged car that has all these white x’s drawing attention to it. Just strange they’d loan it out. Get it fixed first.Second, I never say that I want them to fill up the car with gas upon my return. I always fill it up full before returning it myself. I get a charge of $70 on my receipt and I’ve gone back and forth with customer service via email and they said it’s because I agreed to the GSO charge or gas charge where I didn’t need to fill it up and they asked me for a receipt and I said I don’t have a receipt (they also said bank statement charges won’t suffice). I have told them repeatedly I told the agent I didn’t want that charge and that I filled it up with a full tank because it even shows it on my receipt that in and out fuel was 8/8. THEN they said that the charge was because the location claimed the car didn’t come back full so the charge was to refuel. $70….so that means the tank would’ve been less than half full….and again the receipt shows 8/8 fuel in so how are they saying they had to refuel the car…this has been a terrible experience and I’ll never rent from Avis or Budget. I will need to stick with Hertz and Sixt moving forward. If anyone rents from Avis, you should probably record the convo with the agent in case, if you fill up gas, get a receipt. And the criteria is it has to be within 5 miles of where you’re returning and same day. Don’t let them scam you!
September 26 · Bellina ChinDespite of the hassle when checked mg in and the wait I will give them 4 stars because they gave us the suv we preferred. It was a long wait but worth it. I do feel like they need to work on the customer service in general but maybe they were just too busy so giving them the benefit of the doubt.
October 03 · Monica M.Customer service is horrible here, there's no help on the floor and when you see help there in the far back group up, the wait time for cars here is horrible they'll just drive by you waiting when u need express service on top of that the cars aren't clean all the way the fluids are always 50/50 with the amping of damaged cars they sometimes give u its a gamble and not worth it lucky they got other services cause this company is def not worth the comeback. Cars are not in rite location they give you so you gotta go back and wait the wait time here is ridiculous sadly said with the effort of no cars ever be put out on express this company's a joke. The smiles are there to screw you over they do not care.
September 20 · Reynaldo Martinez (Jr)Extremely Disappointed with Avis – Unacceptable Vehicle and Poor Customer ServiceI reserved a truck in advance through Avis, specifically requesting a Ram Rebel or something similar. Upon arrival, I provided all necessary information, including my reservation number and security deposit. When I got to the vehicle, I was shocked to find an old Dodge—not even close to a Rebel or a comparable truck. The vehicle was in terrible condition, with a large dent on the front passenger fender and what appeared to be a bullet hole in the passenger door.Naturally, I walked back to the front desk to address the issue. After waiting to be helped again, another staff member approached me with an immediate attitude. I calmly explained that I was attending a wedding and needed something more presentable and in line with what I had reserved. Her response was to offer me a Ford Lightning—an electric vehicle—which I declined since it didn’t meet my needs. She responded by slamming her walkie-talkie on the desk, showing clear frustration and unprofessionalism.I reiterated that I wasn’t trying to be difficult, just asking for what I had originally booked. She then offered an SUV for an extra $26/day, which didn’t make sense as trucks were priced higher online—and after the way I was treated, I wasn’t about to pay more for a downgrade in service. This all happened around 11 p.m., leaving me scrambling to find another rental. Thankfully, Hertz came through at the last minute, though I had to pay nearly double. At least they treated me with respect and gave me a clean, new vehicle.I will not be renting from Avis again.
