Hertz Car Rental - Boston - Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) Introduce
For many Massachusetts residents and visitors relying on air travel, securing ground transportation begins at the Hertz Car Rental location within the Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) complex. Officially situated at 156 Tomahawk Dr BUILDING 42 A, Boston, MA 02128, this facility is positioned as a primary Car Rental Agency serving the high-volume needs of one of the Northeast's busiest hubs. The strategic location is meant to offer a seamless transition from air travel to driving across the Commonwealth, whether you are heading to a business meeting in the Financial District or embarking on a scenic weekend drive through the Pioneer Valley.
This Hertz facility provides a wide range of onsite services designed for convenience, including a large and varied fleet of rental vehicles and a round-the-clock operational schedule to accommodate all flight times. Like many airport-based providers, it features customer-friendly payment options and specific discounts, such as for active military personnel. However, the user experience at this specific location, as reported by customers, introduces serious caveats that potential renters in Massachusetts must be fully aware of before booking.
Public customer reviews highlight deep dissatisfaction concerning the quality of customer service, vehicle safety, and the company's billing practices. One long-time, high-tier member ("President's Circle") described their experience as “Absolutely the worst Hertz experience I’ve ever had,” detailing an utter “lack of empathy” from managers and customer service staff during a simple car swap request, culminating in receiving a replacement car that was “dirty, damaged, 50k miles, safety sensors going off on the highway, and the wheels clearly needing alignment and balancing. Car was in a terrible condition and it was unsafe and completely unacceptable.”
Another account shared a nightmare scenario involving a significant overcharge and contract mismanagement: “They charged my credit card nearly $2,000 more than what I should have paid... they said I had the car for 13+ days, they said I had a RAV4, and the photos of the car was an older man— not me, a 32 YO woman.” This customer warned, “You will likely be reporting charges as fraud with your credit card company like me.” Additionally, the physical logistics were criticized as “a disorganized mess,” with wait times often exceeding 30 minutes just to get to the counter, let alone leave the facility.
These serious public reports should compel any prospective Massachusetts renter to conduct meticulous vehicle checks, document every stage of the transaction (pickup and return), and be prepared for potential administrative complications. While the location provides a service, the user feedback strongly suggests that caution and thorough personal documentation are paramount.
The Hertz Car Rental at Boston Logan International Airport is located within the consolidated Rental Car Center (RCC), making it highly accessible for arriving passengers. The specific address is 156 Tomahawk Dr BUILDING 42 A, Boston, MA 02128.
Accessibility for Travelers:
- Airport Shuttle: Passengers arriving at any terminal must utilize the free, dedicated airport shuttle buses (Routes 22, 33, or 55) to reach the Rental Car Center building. These shuttles run frequently from the curbside of the lower level at each terminal.
- Ease of Access: The location is designed to streamline the rental process directly after a flight. However, be advised that the physical process, as noted in customer reviews, may still involve long lines and delays, despite the central location.
Physical Accessibility: The facility is mandated to be compliant with accessibility standards, offering:
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: The main entry points to the rental counter area are built to accommodate all customers, including those with mobility challenges.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Designated, convenient parking spaces are available for customers requiring special accommodations for pick-up and return.
Operating Hours: A significant convenience of this airport branch is its extended availability. The Hertz Boston Logan location operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week (Mon-Sun 24 hours). This allows for vehicle pick-up and return at any time, which is essential for travel schedules that do not conform to typical business hours.
Hertz Car Rental at BOS offers a comprehensive suite of services typical of a major, high-volume Car Rental Agency to facilitate travel throughout Massachusetts and beyond:
- Diverse Vehicle Categories: The fleet is expansive, catering to various needs, including fuel-efficient cars (Economy, Compact), sedans (Intermediate, Full-Size), SUVs (small to large, including models like the Jeep Wrangler and Chevrolet Suburban), Minivans, Trucks, Convertibles, Electric Vehicles (EVs), and Luxury cars.
- Preferred Membership Benefits: Members of the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program, particularly elite tiers like President's Circle, are promised expedited service and vehicle selection options. However, local user feedback indicates that these benefits may not translate into a consistently high level of service at this particular location.
- Additional Rental Options: The agency provides optional extras such as GPS rental, child safety seats (infant, child, and booster), and the possibility of adding an additional authorized driver (fees apply).
- One-Way Rentals: Hertz offers one-way rental options, allowing customers to pick up a vehicle at BOS and drop it off at a different Hertz location across New England or the country, though terms and fees apply.
- Payment Flexibility: Accepts a range of payment methods, including major Credit Cards, Debit Cards (often subject to a credit check and a pre-authorization hold), and NFC Mobile Payments.
Key features that distinguish this Hertz location for Massachusetts travelers include:
- 24-Hour Operation: Uninterrupted service allows for maximum scheduling flexibility, a crucial advantage for airport-based travel.
- Active Military Discounts: The company offers special savings on car rentals for active military members and their families, often in partnership with organizations like USAA and Veterans Advantage, providing up to 10-20% off base rates. Verification is required.
- Elite Membership Services (Hertz Gold Plus Rewards): While the service execution is debated in reviews, the promise of expedited counters and reserved car selections for Gold members remains a core feature.
- Central Location: Situated at the Rental Car Center, it is the closest possible pick-up point for airport users via dedicated shuttle, minimizing off-airport transfer time.
- Broad Fleet Specialization: The wide selection, including premium, luxury, and specialty vehicle classes, ensures specific needs (e.g., a Jeep for an outdoor trip or a luxury car for a special event) can be met.

For a local user in Massachusetts, choosing Hertz at the Boston Logan International Airport is primarily worth considering if your travel demands align with two specific, compelling advantages: unmatched 24-hour accessibility and access to their specialty vehicle classes. The 24/7 operating model is invaluable for anyone facing red-eye flights or unpredictable delays into or out of BOS. Furthermore, if you specifically require a vehicle from their unique collections, such as a specialty SUV, a Luxury model, or a specific performance car for a scenic drive along the coast or into the mountains, Hertz often maintains a broader, more luxurious selection than some competitors. The documented Active Military Discount is also a significant financial benefit for eligible service members.
A Word of Caution: Prospective customers must choose this location with eyes wide open to the serious, documented issues concerning customer service, vehicle safety, and contract management. The repeated reports of poor vehicle condition (unsafe alignment, damage), unhelpful staff, and significant post-rental billing errors are critical factors. If you prioritize reliability, safety, and guaranteed contract accuracy above all else, the convenience benefits may not outweigh the high-risk concerns.
Therefore, if you choose Hertz at BOS, it should be for the specific features of 24-hour service or specialty vehicles, and you must adopt a proactive, defensive posture: meticulously inspect the vehicle for damage and safety issues, document the entire check-out process with photos and videos, and keep detailed records of your return, including exact time, mileage, and gas level, to safeguard against the alleged billing and contract errors reported by other Massachusetts customers.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely the worst Hertz experience I’ve ever had — and I will NEVER rent from this location again.I’m a President’s Circle member, traveling with a small child, and not a single person — neither of the two managers (Saint or Joshua) nor Flow at customer service — showed an ounce of care or professionalism. I had called ahead, explained my situation, and was assured I could come in to swap my car due to comfort and size issues. But when I arrived, Saint told me to “come back tomorrow,” saying returns start at 6:00 a.m. and it would be “doable.” The next morning, Joshua, the manager on duty, completely contradicted that and told me to come back later. They clearly had cars available — one simple swap wouldn’t have hurt — but instead I was sent in circles with zero accountability. When I was finally directed to Flow, she reluctantly agreed to help but handed me the worst car imaginable: dirty, damaged, 50k miles, safety sensors going off on the highway, and the wheels clearly needing alignment and balancing. Car was in a terrible condition and it was unsafe and completely unacceptable. This location is run by people who are rude, lazy, and utterly lacking in empathy. No effort, no respect, no sense of customer care. Just shameful.I will never come back here again, and I’ll make sure this experience is shared loudly across social media and the Hertz community.
October 13 · KWDO NOT RENT HERE! I rented a Jeep Wrangler for one day on 9/15-9/16, and I got my final receipt on 9/28 after days of me trying to tell them that I returned the vehicle on 9/16. They charged my credit card nearly $2,000 more than what I should have paid, on top of all the additional costs and fees. I got the final receipt and they said I had the car for 13+ days, they said I had a RAV4, and the photos of the car was an older man— not me, a 32 YO woman. Now they aren’t answering their phones and running around the issue via email. BEWARE!!! You will likely be reporting charges as fraud with your credit card company like me.Also, this physical location is a disorganized mess. Always takes 30+ minutes to leave the facility after standing in line for 30+ minutes to actually get the car. Not to mention, they have a hard time closing out their car rental contracts, which is probably how they got me into this mess.Unfortunately, definitely will never rent through Hertz again, but it’s not like they even care!
September 30 · Caitlin HanleyThis is the most friendly and felt warmly welcomed Hertz location over this country, Stanley did an amazing job. Everyone I met during the check in and check out process is super friendly and they seem love their job, this energy can be passed toward customers. They are amazing, period.
September 23 · James BaiReservation process is good. Pickup process is a nightmare. Billing is a nightmare. Cars are ok when you get the car you reserved.Reservation process is ok. We did it on priceline. We received quick confirmation emails and everything was ok 👍.Pickup process is a nightmare. One time they didn't have the car we reserved and we had to pay more for another car they had. They (Hertz) are understaffed and the employees they have are rude and/or they don't care and they threaten you with not able to pick up your car if you complain about anything. I understand that it's not their fault that they don't have the cars people reserved but their attitude is poor.Understaffed at the pickup counter resulting in long wait times to pick up your car at the end of long journeys when you and your children are exhausted and crying 😢.Pickup: Links that Hertz itself sent me via email and text, that supposedly will help me select a car and skip the counter, did NOT WORK. I tried repeatedly and was unsuccessful. Did the online checkin, validated my driver's license, validated my credit card 💳 and still had to wait at the counter. Only one employee at the counter. Was overcharged repeatedly and had to call customer service for a refund, which, up to this point they did, but it's frustrating and time consuming to keep calling customers service for a refund. At this point I think it's a strategy from rental cars to overcharge customers, and if you don't call back to complain, they just keep the money.Cars were ok although we had to switch one car because it was not cleaned. Oil change message on the dashboard. Another customer complained there was a check engine light on their car.Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the cars are somewhat new but the process is a nightmare. Hate renting cars.
August 20 · Nick SandorThe ease of the entire process was incredible! Employees are all great and Hertz really makes it so easy! I needed to extend my car rental because I had a delayed flight and I could do it easily online. I also returned into Boston, Logan airport and it was truly the easiest, smoothest thing I’ve ever experienced.
