Rent-A-Wreck Introduce
For drivers across Anne Arundel County and the greater Baltimore/Washington region, finding a reliable yet cost-effective rental car can often be a challenge. Rent-A-Wreck, situated in Glen Burnie, MD, positions itself as a smart, value-driven alternative to the high prices charged by larger national rental agencies. Located conveniently on Ritchie Highway, this local car rental agency offers a fleet of clean, safety-inspected, and well-maintained—though sometimes older or previously damaged—vehicles, focusing on providing essential, economical transportation for residents and visitors alike.
The brand's philosophy is rooted in offering significant savings by renting dependable used cars, trucks, and vans. This approach makes it an attractive option for local Maryland users who need a vehicle for work, emergency use while their personal car is in the shop, or simply for an affordable weekend trip. However, as an independently owned and operated franchise, the Glen Burnie location operates under specific local policies that are crucial for prospective renters to understand, particularly concerning reservations, vehicle condition, and insurance requirements.
Public feedback reveals a highly polarized customer experience. While one customer reported a smooth process, acknowledging the importance of coordinating insurance beforehand and accepting the 'first-come, first-served' policy on basic vehicles without a deposit, another user described an "absolutely insanity" scenario involving a canceled reservation, an unexpected jump to a two-day minimum rental, and being forced into a more expensive vehicle. Furthermore, reports highlight significant issues with the condition of rental vehicles, including dents, deep interior dirtiness, mechanical lights (like 'low tire pressure' and 'oil change overdue'), and even potentially illegal hanging items inside the car, all issues that were allegedly concealed until after the contract was signed. These testimonials underscore the importance of meticulous personal inspection and verification of every detail before signing a rental agreement at this location.
The Rent-A-Wreck location in Glen Burnie is strategically situated to serve a wide local area, including those traveling to or from BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, though they typically do not provide shuttle service.
The physical address for the agency is: 7352 Ritchie Hwy, Glen Burnie, MD 21061, USA.
The location on Ritchie Highway (MD Route 2) is a central transportation hub in Anne Arundel County, ensuring easy accessibility for drivers from Annapolis, Baltimore, and surrounding suburbs.
A major highlight of this location is its comprehensive commitment to physical accessibility:
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: Ensures a clear path into the rental office.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Provides designated, easy-access parking spots for convenience.
- Wheelchair Accessible Restroom: Offers necessary facilities for all patrons.
- Wheelchair Accessible Seating: Provides comfortable and accessible areas within the office while processing rental paperwork.
Rent-A-Wreck's core service in Glen Burnie is providing economical transportation, often with older model vehicles, making it ideal for budget-conscious Maryland renters.
- Affordable Used Car Rental: Specializing in clean, functional, but typically non-brand-new vehicles to keep rental prices lower than competitors.
- Diverse Fleet Options: The agency generally offers a range of vehicles, including economy cars, full-size sedans, and utility vehicles like vans and SUVs, though availability must be confirmed directly.
- Credit Card Payments: Standard acceptance of major credit cards for rental transactions and deposits.
- Debit Card Payments: Accepting debit cards for rental, which is a major convenience for local customers, though specific local policies regarding deposits and required proof of insurance must be reviewed.
- Reservation System: Allows customers to book vehicles online or over the phone, though the agency's policy on guaranteeing vehicle class or availability without a prior deposit should be explicitly clarified.
- Insurance Verification Assistance: Customers requiring full-coverage insurance (which is often a mandatory requirement) may receive assistance on which details to provide to their insurance company.
The value proposition of the Glen Burnie Rent-A-Wreck rests on its cost-effective nature and commitment to accessibility, balanced by the need for customer caution.
- Economical Pricing Model: As a purveyor of "Smart Alternative" rentals, the rates are generally intended to be significantly lower than those for a brand-new vehicle from major airport-based agencies.
- High Accessibility Standards: One of the strongest features is the commitment to full accessibility, covering the entrance, parking, seating, and restrooms—a level of accommodation not guaranteed at every rental location.
- Insurance Requirement Clarity: The local policy typically requires renters to have verifiable full-coverage auto insurance for the rented vehicle, or they must purchase the agency's Collision Damage Waiver (CDW). This clear expectation helps renters avoid last-minute surprises if they call ahead.
- Flexible Payment Options: The acceptance of both credit and debit cards is a key feature, especially for residents of Maryland who do not wish to use a credit card for the deposit.
- Local Presence: Being a fixed, neighborhood-based location allows for personal interaction and a convenient spot for Anne Arundel County residents.
Before making any reservation, customers are strongly encouraged to contact the Glen Burnie location directly to confirm policies, vehicle availability, and insurance requirements.

For the Maryland driver prioritizing savings and requiring a fully accessible facility, Rent-A-Wreck in Glen Burnie is a choice worth considering. The primary draw is the economical price point for a short-term rental compared to premium market rates. Secondly, the inclusive nature of the facility, offering Wheelchair Accessible Entrance, Parking, Restroom, and Seating, makes it a superior option for patrons with mobility needs who require a reliable physical location. Finally, the acceptance of Debit Cards provides an essential service for local users who meet all other rental criteria.
However, the local user must be extremely diligent to ensure a smooth transaction. The negative reviews highlight key areas that demand careful attention:
- Availability and Pricing: Reservations are not guaranteed, and the agency may impose an unexpected minimum rental period (e.g., two days) or require a more expensive vehicle if the reserved one is unavailable. Always call on the day of pick-up to confirm your reservation and rate.
- Vehicle Condition and Safety: Due to reports of dirty interiors, mechanical warning lights, expired maintenance (oil changes), and even illegal obstructions, customers must refuse to sign any contract until a complete, documented walk-around inspection is performed and all issues are noted on the agreement. Do not accept a car with low tire pressure or overdue maintenance.
- Fuel Level Discrepancy: Verify the fuel tank level matches the contract *before* driving away. If the car is below full, ensure it is documented on the contract to avoid refueling penalty fees upon return.
- Insurance Compliance: Reconfirm your full-coverage insurance policy extends to the rental vehicle, or be prepared to purchase the agency's CDW. This is a non-negotiable step to protect against catastrophic loss.
In summary, Rent-A-Wreck Glen Burnie offers an undeniable value proposition for the budget-conscious local user. To make it a successful rental experience, the customer must fully embrace the "buyer beware" approach, verifying the price, the rental terms, and the physical condition of the vehicle with a level of scrutiny that may not be required at other, more expensive, agencies. By doing so, you can leverage the affordable pricing while mitigating the reported risks.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely insanity. I reserve a car. The cheapest that they got. Dont need much. Just something to get to work for the night. I NEVER received a phone call or email (other than the original confirmation email) of any issues. I paid with a major credit card, per the fine print. I also read the fine print. there is no fine print saying a car is not guaranteed. It does however say there is a $50 no-show charge if I did not pick up my car that I reserved. I get there. And am told they dont have a car available that I reserved. Instead they give me a more expensive car not at the online rate. So instead of paying $32 for one day like I reserved and needed. I'm now forced to pay $240 for 2 days. I just wanted one day. But apperently they dont do one day and yet your able to reserve for just one day. And they dont uphold their own fine print and reservations. This is absolutely insanity and am very disappointed in the customer service. I was given a car with dents and scratches. Holes in the seats. Things hanging off of the mirror (which is illegal in the state of MD). I got a car with less than 1/4 of a tank of gas. Was unable to inspect the car BEFORE signing the contract saying I got a full tank of gas and no damages. Low tire pressure in 3 tires. One tire with dry rot. One tire with major tire wear. Oil change over due. Seats are really dirty. And a light that stays on saying a door is open even though I made sure all was closed. It would of been cheaper for me to of just gone to Enterprise. It would of only been $130 for the day, and they give a military discount too. Lesson learned. Then the owner accuses me of not renting from them? Alrighty then. It gets better.
November 27 · Alyssa ShirkI want to start off by saying that I did read everyone else's comments until after I already rented the car, and I'm not really sure what all the negativity is about. Well, maybe some of it I get, but not all of it! Here is the biggest thing about them that I will say that was a turn-off for me, specifically the price of the cars. The car was overpriced, and it definitely had some issues while driving with certain check engine lights and things being on, but honestly, it was just the price. When I went to pick up the car they had the car available and clean and ready for me to take it yes I did have to get my own insurance yes it does have to be full coverage to rent the car but all I had to do was call my insurance company and they did all the work for me I didn't have to do anything else they told my insurance company which car I would be using and for how long I would be using it. They made sure that I got what I asked for and even though I did not send a deposit beforehand because I was looking for a basic small vehicle I guess I was lucky that there was one there but they did inform me that without a deposit it was first come first serve and if I got there and there was no car it was on me. My experience was not as harsh obviously as everyone else's and we all have to take our time and experience things for ourselves for me personally I did not have an issue with any of the things that was going on with my rental and how everything was set up and done other than the fact that the car was so expensive the rental itself is expensive everyday but I understand the deposit I understand the insurance and all the other things are not an issue. If you have an emergency and you really need a car, then this place is fine as long as you have the money to pay for it it's great. If you can get your insurance together and rent a car from them, then you don't have anything to worry about. If you have other issues going on, you are going to have to go someplace else it just is what it is. I hope that this helps in some way. Good luck renting your car, be it here or anywhere else, and I commend you on doing your research and reading all the comments and making your own decision!

April 05 · Fardin AlizadehI hardly leave reviews, let alone any bad reviews, but this was just a horrible experience. After picking up my rental it broke down within a couple of hours on the road. I was left with no working car and their office was closed. After contacting them the next morning I was informed they would be sending someone to pick up the car after I told them I did not feel it was safe to be driven. I paid for the rental for five days and only drove it for 2 hours before the check engine light started flashing and it wouldn't go over 50MPH on the highway. The owner agreed to give me a FULL REFUND after they picked up and returned the car to their location. This has been since March 2021 and still no refund or answer from them! I had to pay for another rental during this time and was promised my money back, but the business did not follow through with their promises.
July 17 · Adiba BaraziTo make a very long story shorter...the 2013 Ford Focus that I rented WAS a "wreck"! A piece of the bumper was broken and it fell off by the time I got home. They told me to put a piece of tape on it. 3 hours into what should have been a 7 hour trip...the transmission stalls. They told me they would cross their fingers and hope I made it. After 10 hours and numerous breakdowns my brother went to check the transmission fluid and there was none in it because there was no feeder tube and no dipstick! High beams didn't work, inside light was broken...and more. I was a whole day late getting home because my brother had to make the repairs himself because I did not have the money to take it to a repair shop. When I returned the car I offered to call it even if they would give me a full refund. The owner agreed. 4 days later the money was not refunded and I never got the deposit back. When I called to find out what had happened.....they kept changing their story and they actually had the nerve to tell me .."Well the car made it down there and made it back didn't it???"They were very condescending and had no empathy at all. I have never been been spoken to so rudely in my life.I have been a Retail Manager for 26 years and I was shocked at how unprofessional and condescending they were to me. When I asked for the General Manager's phone #...I was told that he is never in the store and doesn't like talking to people!!?????Very Shady Business
