Hertz Car Rental - Philadelphia - Essington Avenue Hle Introduce
For residents and visitors of Philadelphia and the greater Pennsylvania region, securing a reliable rental vehicle outside of the main airport terminals is often a preferred, more convenient option. The Hertz Car Rental location at 6815 Essington Avenue in Philadelphia, PA, serves as a crucial "Home-Link-Express" (HLE) branch for the area. Situated conveniently near the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) complex, this branch offers a comprehensive range of vehicles for local use, business travel, and Pennsylvania road trips, all while aiming to deliver the level of service Hertz customers expect from a major brand.
The Essington Avenue HLE is not located directly at the airport's main rental car facility but operates in the immediate vicinity, making it a viable, less-congested choice for those living in or traveling to South Philadelphia, Delaware County, and surrounding communities. As a key service provider in the 19153 area, this location stocks popular vehicle types ranging from economical compact cars, such as the Ford Focus and Chevrolet Spark, to larger SUVs and vans suitable for family trips or moving purposes. Significantly, the branch is also known to carry Electric Vehicles (EVs), such as the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, positioning it as a modern choice for environmentally conscious renters in Pennsylvania.
Customer experience at any local branch is heavily influenced by the staff, and the Essington Avenue location has received highly polarized but very specific feedback from the local user base. On one hand, glowing reviews highlight the "exceptional service" provided by specific individuals, naming the manager, Samiria, and counter agent, Cierra, who are praised for going "above and beyond" and genuinely enjoying their jobs, which makes customers "feel welcome" and encourages them to return. This dedicated core of professional staff demonstrates that excellent, customer-focused service is certainly achievable and available at this location.
However, potential renters should be aware of a separate body of customer feedback that cites significant issues, including cleanliness concerns, unhelpful staff, and issues with vehicle preparation, particularly for specialty vehicles like EVs. This suggests that service quality may be inconsistent, highlighting the importance of the professional staff in providing a positive experience. While some customers advise choosing the main airport location, the presence of highly-rated staff like Samiria and Cierra offers a strong incentive for local users who prioritize personalized and welcoming service for their Philadelphia car rental needs.
The Hertz Car Rental Essington Avenue HLE location is strategically placed to serve the greater Philadelphia area, particularly those who prefer not to deal with the major, high-traffic volume of the official Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) rental facility, yet still benefit from the proximity.
- Address: 6815 Essington Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19153, USA.
- Proximity to PHL: Though not the on-airport location, it is very close to the airport complex, making it convenient for residents of South and Southwest Philadelphia, as well as those arriving via nearby Interstate 95 or Route 291.
- Local Access: Essington Avenue is a well-known artery in the area, offering straightforward navigation. The HLE designation means it is focused on serving the local community's needs (Home-Link-Express) as opposed to being primarily focused on air travelers.
- Operating Hours: Based on public data, the branch typically operates during standard business hours on weekdays and reduced hours on Saturdays, with an observation that they may be closed on Sundays. Customers should always call ahead to confirm their specific pick-up or drop-off times, especially on weekends.
The Essington Avenue Hertz branch offers a wide array of services and vehicle options to suit varied customer demands within the Pennsylvania community.
- Standard Car Rentals: A full fleet of passenger vehicles, including small sedans (like the Ford Focus), mid-size cars, and larger SUVs (such as the Nissan Rogue and Chevrolet Equinox).
- Electric Vehicle (EV) Rentals: The availability of modern EVs, like the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, for customers interested in an electric driving experience, though customers are advised to check local charging infrastructure for longer trips.
- Specialty Vehicles: Availability of vans and other specialty cars, ensuring options for moving, group travel, or unique vehicle preferences.
- Reservations and Walk-ins: Accepts advance reservations for all vehicle types and services, including those for Hertz Gold members, although availability for walk-ins can vary.
- Customer Service: Dedicated counter service for check-out and check-in procedures, with staff focused on processing rental agreements.
What sets this Essington Avenue location apart for the Pennsylvania renter are the human element and the diversity of the fleet.
- Exceptional Managerial Staff: The branch has received high praise in local customer reviews for its dedicated manager, Samiria, and counter staff like Cierra, who are noted for being "incredibly helpful" and providing service that makes customers feel "welcome."
- Proximity to PHL: Its location near the airport is ideal for local residents who need an alternative pick-up/drop-off point close to the area without the potential crowds of the main terminal.
- EV Fleet Availability: The inclusion of Electric Vehicles in the rental fleet provides an advanced, modern option for renters in Philadelphia.
- Hertz Gold Member Acknowledgment: While general service is the goal, the excellent service has been extended to Gold members and non-members alike, indicating a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Focus on Local Needs: The HLE (Home-Link-Express) designation confirms this branch is set up to cater to the daily and non-travel-related needs of the local Philadelphia population.
To ensure a smooth rental process, especially when inquiring about specific vehicle types like EVs or confirming staff availability for Gold member service, customers are advised to contact the branch directly.

The decision to rent from the Hertz Essington Avenue HLE comes down to the quality of direct, personalized customer service, despite any reported inconsistencies with general upkeep or preparation. The most compelling reason to choose this location is the presence of the highly praised professional staff, including Manager Samiria and counter agent Cierra. Local reviews consistently indicate that these individuals deliver an "exceptional," welcoming, and helpful experience that goes "above and beyond" what is expected. For a customer in Pennsylvania who values having a friendly, proactive face to handle their rental needs, this branch provides a reliable human connection that can smooth out the complexities of any transaction.
Furthermore, the location is an excellent choice for local Philadelphia residents needing a vehicle for a non-airport related purpose. Its position near the PHL complex, yet separate from the main terminal facility, offers convenient access for the 19153 area and a less stressful experience than navigating the core airport rental center. The fleet is another significant draw, as the availability of Electric Vehicles, like the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, caters to modern driving preferences and offers a chance to test-drive an EV on local roads.
However, potential renters should take a proactive approach, especially when renting specialty vehicles or if cleanliness is a top priority. A quick call to the branch at (215) 365-4070 to confirm the readiness of their reserved car, particularly an EV, can help ensure the experience matches the high standards set by the best employees. Ultimately, by choosing the Essington Avenue HLE, you are banking on the excellent local service provided by the dedicated staff, securing a diverse range of vehicles, and benefiting from a convenient location near, but not inside, the Philadelphia International Airport hub. For a local rental that promises personalized attention, this Hertz branch remains a valuable option in the Philadelphia area.

Hertz Car Rental - Philadelphia - Essington Avenue Hle Reviews
If I could give Hertz zero stars, I would. From start to finish, this location was a nightmare. The young guy checking me out was rude, disheveled, and acted like I was a burden. I asked basic questions about the electric vehicle and charging, but all he did was repeatedly ask if I wanted to cancel the contract 7 to 10 times with no real answers. He never properly charged the car; after 45 minutes, the battery barely increased. His co-worker was just as bad, nasty, often absent, and defensive. The waiting room was filthy: grimy windows, broken blinds, loose ceiling tiles, dirty carpets, and a handful of nasty chairs. The car was a disaster inside and out, water bottle under the seat, cracked screen, scratched steering wheel, missing trunk handle piece, napkins everywhere, and scuffed rims. Outside, they only rinsed it with water to fake a cleaning.I rented this EV for a 2-day trip but had to cancel because the town lacked charging options. The reps never helped me find alternatives and just kept pestering me to cancel all while offering no another options, just Ignorant and frustrating.Drop-off was smooth only because the branch manager, who was upbeat and professional, was there. But one good employee can’t fix terrible, consistent service. The 1-800 customer service was just as bad, rude, dismissive, and condescending, like bill collectors with awful language skills.Hertz clearly doesn’t care about customers or vehicles. Avoid this location at all costs. If you must rent from Hertz, go to Philadelphia airport or Market Street. Anywhere is better than this nightmare.
August 11 · L.I had wonderful experiences at this location, which makes me want to rent a car here. The manager, Samiria, and the counter girl, Cierra, were incredibly helpful. They made me feel welcome and wanted to return multiple times because of their exceptional service. They went above and beyond to assist me, not because I’m a Gold member of Hertz, but because they genuinely love their jobs and strive to provide a great experience for their customers. The only issue I’ve encountered with all Hertz locations is that they seem to have stopped answering calls.
October 08 · Duaa SalehIf I could give this place a negative rating I would. I went to Hertz this morning and the young lady was very rude, impolite, quick to say no and also smelled terrible. Anyway, I booked my car reservation the night before and was sent an email itinerary confirming everything. When she had asked for my ID and form of payment. She mentioned due to my drivers license mentioning that I am the 3rd (3rd generation of Rich in my family) and my credit card did not have the "3rd" on there. There could not process my payment because the names did not fully match and that this is fraud. I have never heard of this in my life. The young lady then went to the back (thank god because she smelled terrible) to grab a young man and laughed and she "nah we ain't going to help you". I have worked in customer service in a hotel for years and never have I have came across anyone so rude. I then had to call an uber due to them thinking that I am preventing fraud. Very rude, not trained, not willing to trouble shoot problems, and had a horrid smell coming from the female employee
October 09 · RichNo part of this experience is worth your money. I'll start off by saying Dollar, Hertz, and Thrift all operate out of the same counter, so all 3 are the same.We reserved a car a week in advance from this location. Called multiple times the day before to confirm things with the location and just had the phone ring with no answer. We arrived 10 minutes early only to be told on arrival that the car we reserved wasn't available. We were then told we'd have to pay the upgraded price or to go somewhere else. The obvious issue is a day of rental from anywhere else would have cost almost as much as the upgrade. You can say all you want that we were offered a choice, but we absolutely weren't when the choice is pay double or pay double but with extra travel time. The car rental went okay and we were planning on returning it after hours and called to see if that was an option. No answer again. Called every number possible for the shop and the uber Hertz rental next door. No answer. We drove up, found an employee still there and asked about after hours drop off and were told that wasn't an option even with the office next door still open to him.(I understand if he can't do it, it's just quite annoying to see that the office is right there, he has access and they still didn't have after hours drop-off.)It seems like car rental places nowadays want to make the process as uninviting, frustrating, and as expensive as possible.Overall I'd absolutely go anywhere else. This was a miserable experience.
September 02 · Reyna HartIf I could give Hertz zero stars, I would. This place is a complete nightmare from start to finish.Let’s start with the in-person experience: the young guy checking me out looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. Disheveled, rude, and utterly unhelpful, he treated me like I was a huge inconvenience. I asked simple questions about the electric vehicle, how to charge it, battery life, everything and all I got was irritation and the same obnoxious question 7 to 10 times: “Would you like to cancel the contract?” No answers, no guidance, just pure attitude. He clearly never properly charged the car on purpose. I waited nearly 45 minutes and the charge barely increased, only a 4 kW bump! His co-worker was just as bad, nasty, disheveled, and defensive of her lazy colleague, even though she was out of the office 85 to 90% of the time during our interaction. They both acted like customers were a burden. The waiting room looked like a dump: filthy carpets, dim lighting, broken blinds, loose and open ceiling tiles, 4 to 6 filthy chairs, and windows so grimy you couldn’t see out of them. The whole place is a disgrace. The car? A disaster. Inside, there was a water bottle lodged under the driver’s seat, a cracked screen, a scratched steering wheel, a missing piece on the trunk handle, and napkins thrown all over the back seat. The rims were scuffed like they didn’t care about a single detail. Outside, all they did was rinse the SUV with water, didn't clean it, thrown aome water on it just enough to make it look like they cleaned it.I rented the car for a 2-day road trip, which I ended up canceling because it was an electric vehicle, and the town I was going to didn’t have Kia EVOGO charging options, something I would’ve known if the customer reps were actually helpful. When I asked multiple times for a gas vehicle and what that would entail, instead of answering, the representative just sucked his teeth and kept asking if I wanted to cancel my contract. That wasn’t my question at all, just ignorant and frustrating! The drop-off was a breeze but only because the two awful employees I dealt with the day before weren’t there. Instead, the branch manager was on-site. She had a positive, upbeat attitude, but one person alone can’t save a company with such horrendous, consistently terrible customer service. The nightmare extended to the 1-800 customer service, too, rude, dismissive agents who sounded like bill collectors with terrible language skills and zero empathy. Their tone was aggressive and condescending, arguably worse than the staff on-site. It’s clear Hertz doesn’t care about its customers, vehicles, or reputation.Hertz has completely dropped the ball on customer service from the phone lines to the rental desk. This location should be shut down immediately.Do yourself a favor and avoid this disaster. If you must rent from Hertz, stick to the Philadelphia airport or Market Street locations, anywhere is better than this nightmare.
