Mex Rent A Car Introduce
For residents and travelers in California, securing reliable transportation is often the first step in unlocking the freedom to explore the vast opportunities that Southern California provides. Whether you are planning a drive along the Pacific Coast Highway, attending a major event, or simply require a temporary vehicle for daily commuting in the expansive Los Angeles metropolitan area, a local car rental agency near the primary transit hub offers a convenient starting point. Mex Rent A Car is one such agency, strategically positioned to serve the high volume of traffic flowing through the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) corridor.
Mex Rent A Car presents itself as an affordable and flexible option with a worldwide presence, including a crucial location near LAX. Their promotional materials highlight a diverse fleet and a commitment to competitive, budget-friendly rates, which often make them an appealing option when browsing online travel agencies. However, as with any local or non-major-brand rental choice, prospective renters are advised to look beyond the initial booking price and understand the full scope of policies, procedures, and actual on-the-ground customer experiences. This guide is designed to provide California users with a clear, factual overview of the agency’s services and to contrast its self-described offerings with significant, publicly reported consumer concerns.
The sheer size of Los Angeles and its dependence on vehicular travel makes the location of a car rental pick-up point a key factor. An agency that is easily accessible from the airport but manages to avoid some of the most congested central airport rental facilities often saves time and hassle. Furthermore, for California locals, having a rental option that can accommodate regional travel plans, from San Diego to Long Beach, is essential. Understanding the company's official policies—especially concerning deposits and insurance—is vital to prevent unexpected costs that can significantly alter the perceived value of an 'affordable' online booking.
Location and Accessibility
Mex Rent A Car is conveniently located at 10209 S La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA. This address places the facility just outside the immediate LAX perimeter, in the heart of the area where many off-airport rental agencies operate. This proximity is a major operational feature, designed to cater directly to arriving air travelers as well as residents in the surrounding communities of Westchester and Inglewood.
While not housed within the main terminal's consolidated rental car center, the agency facilitates customer pickup and drop-off via a specific shuttle process. Upon arrival at LAX, customers are instructed to:
- Proceed to the arrivals level and locate a large pink pylon labeled “LAX Shuttles.”
- Board the blue “LAX Economy Parking” shuttle.
- Disembark at the LAX Economy Parking Garage, then follow signs to the “Off-Airport Rental Car Waiting Area” on Level 1.
- Wait for the agency’s own shuttle, which is marked with the Mex Rent A Car logo, to transport them to the office on La Cienega Blvd.
This multi-step process is a key detail for customers to note, as it differs from the more streamlined pickup at major on-airport facilities. The location on La Cienega Boulevard also offers excellent access to major freeways, including the I-405, allowing renters a fast start on their California travels, whether heading north toward the San Fernando Valley or south toward Orange and San Diego counties.
Services Offered
As a professional car rental agency, Mex Rent A Car offers a suite of services typical of the industry, with a focus on competitive pricing and broad availability, though specific local policies apply, particularly for Southern California residents.
- Diverse Rental Fleet: The company promotes a wide variety of vehicles, ranging from fuel-efficient compact cars, which are ideal for city driving and parking, to spacious SUVs and minivans, which are suitable for family adventures throughout California.
- Convenient LAX Proximity: Dedicated shuttle service provides a link between the arrival terminals and the off-airport rental office.
- Flexible Travel: Advertised options include one-way rentals, such as picking up at LAX and dropping off at other California locations, including the Cross Border Xpress (CBX) facility near San Diego.
- Online Booking: Customers are encouraged to book through the website for ease of use and access to exclusive online deals, which may include penalty-free cancellation on many/select car rentals, as available through booking platforms.
- Customer Service Support: The office operates with defined business hours from 8:00 to 19:00, Monday through Sunday, and provides contact numbers for inquiries and assistance.
Features / Highlights
The perceived value proposition of Mex Rent A Car is built on several key features, primarily revolving around accessibility, pricing strategy, and support.
- Affordable Rates: The primary highlight is the company’s stated commitment to offering budget-friendly and competitive rates, which often attract renters browsing third-party travel sites.
- LAX Area Service: The dedicated shuttle and proximity to the airport ensure the service is highly accessible to air travelers.
- Southern California Resident Policies: Specific, published requirements for local renters, which include needing two major credit cards, current proof of insurance, a utility bill, and a refundable deposit of $1000.00 USD on top of the rental fee. This policy highlights a distinct set of procedures for local customers.
- Vehicle Guarantee: The policy to upgrade to the next car category if the booked vehicle is not available provides a level of assurance regarding reservation fulfillment.
- Roadside Assistance & Coverage: The company promotes its own insurance and assistance packages, including optional Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), which can limit the renter’s liability, and Roadside Assistance, covering services like flat tire changes and towing.
These features, particularly the focus on affordability and the specific policy for Southern California residents, are crucial for a local user to understand before booking, especially regarding the strict documentation and deposit requirements for those living in the area.
Contact Information
To ensure a smooth rental process and address any questions regarding required documentation, insurance coverage, or vehicle availability, customers should use the following official contact points:
- Address: 10209 S La Cienega Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045, USA
- Phone: (424) 239-5099
- Mobile Phone: +1 424-239-5099
- LAX Shuttle Assistance: Call (424) 239-5099 for help or shuttle Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA).
- Business Hours: Monday to Sunday 8:00 to 19:00 (7:00 PM).
Direct communication is highly recommended to confirm all rental requirements, especially for policies involving large security deposits and external insurance verification, which are frequently cited points of friction in customer feedback.
What is Worth Choosing: A Factual Assessment
The choice of Mex Rent A Car for a California trip should be based on a candid evaluation of two contrasting facts: the advertised low rates and the consistently high level of consumer warning. The company officially offers a convenient location near LAX, a diverse fleet, and published policies, making it a viable option on paper for budget-conscious travelers and locals.
However, the public record is dominated by serious and recurring complaints that center on two financial hurdles:
- High Security Deposits: Multiple reports confirm that the agency demands deposits as high as $1000 USD at check-in, often described as "insanely high" compared to competitors. The specific policy for Southern California residents officially states a refundable deposit of $1000.00 USD is required on top of the rental.
- Mandatory Insurance & Fees: Customers consistently report being pressured or required to purchase the company's insurance, even when possessing their own personal liability or credit card collision coverage. The refusal to accept external insurance is frequently tied to the high deposit requirement, a tactic described by customers as a "scam" or "loophole" to impose additional fees. This alleged practice can turn a cheap advertised rate into a final bill hundreds or even thousands of dollars higher than anticipated.
Furthermore, customer service is frequently cited as "HORRID," with allegations of staff ignoring customers and being generally unhelpful, which only exacerbates the frustration of unexpected fees and vehicle issues, such as the reported incident involving a check engine light on a substituted vehicle. The fact that the company, according to a customer, denied a refund request from a booking site after the renter refused the deposit highlights a potential lack of willingness to resolve pre-rental disputes.
In conclusion, what is worth choosing is the affordability and convenience, but only with extreme caution. Renters are choosing the lowest advertised price in a highly competitive market, but should be fully prepared for the confirmed financial demands: a high security deposit ($1000 USD is the published local requirement) and the potential for a mandatory, and costly, insurance purchase at the counter, regardless of external coverage. The documented advice from customers—to secure a signed return document and to "plan to spend about $1500 more than what you pay online initially"—is a factual warning that must be factored into the final decision for a worry-free California travel experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1AVOID!!! TOTAL SCAM. Wanted a $1000 deposit at check in. We said no because that is insanely high compared to all other rental companies. They told us to reach out to the booking site for a refund and when we did that, expedia said the rental company denied the refund. They also had HORRID customer service. They all just stand around talking to each other and ignoring customers. One directed me to use a booth to connect to an agent for help but the booth was broken. Took an additional 20 minutes to get help after that. Would reccoment using rideshare or a bigger name company. They look appealing due to their prices but they are terrible. Also heard from another family there that they added on a ton of fees for small things and cause them about 500 in extra fees. If you go with them just plan to spend about 1500 more than what you pay online initially. Such a scam.
October 09 · Bethany WisniewskiDISHONEST - SCAM ARTIST - Insane hold fees $1000 plus mandatory accepting of their insurance though I have my own personal liability and my credit card covers collision and damage. Horrible customer service(see experience below which I sent to management ...of course no one onsite was available to talk to - no response from TWO EMAILS). IF YOU DO PROCEED DO NOT LEAVE THE PREMISE WITHOUT YOUR SIGNED RETURN DOCUMENT. First they told me I was all set , I asked for paperwork then they said it would be emailed I said I cannot leave as I need it now...then car checked in ...an additional fee on the car that was swapped...THEY JUST TOLD ME I WAS ALL SET IT WAS A ZERO BALANCE....LIE.... WAITED FOR THIS TO BE CORRECTED. I was literally fearful to write this review until ALL holds on my credit card were released.I had an incident that has impacted my vacation.I rented a car that was supposed to be a Volkswagen Jetta or similar. I was given a Kia Forte which is generally in a lowerClass. I asked about the Jetta, all out. Often most rental agencies will then freely upgrade. I accepted the Kia Forte.I needed to extend the rental but was told I had to rebook with another one of your companies since all rentals for Mex were sold out.I did so and this time received a Jetta. Our family travel involved going to San Diego, Long Beach and other areas of California.During the trip the Tire Pressure Monitor came on with the Check Engine Light. I called all day but each time it went straight to voicemail and the voicemailWas full/unable to receive a message. This meant driving all the way back to LAX. This we did and the car was swapped. I knowUnintentional mistakes happen but as you can see this has greatly negatively impacted our trip. The first rental was returned about a day earlier. My current rental is due Tuesday @10:30am but I will be returning Monday afternoon. It has held up well and we feel much better with no warning lights flashing so we are appreciative of this. Please let me know what you feel is fair compensation in view of all the above.
October 17 · DThis rental car place is not in the hotel that it says it is on Priceline. It's actually in a little lot in a shady area. Did not like the location nor the process. Would not recommend using. I'm surprised Priceline uses this company.
October 01 · T McCreightvilleWorst company to rent car from, lack of customer service no one answer the phone their VM is full, waiting time for shuttle is 45 min. Their office is nasty like a drug dealer place, they have only on agent on site very slow we were waiting for another 30 min to be served, their shuttle driver was rude, I will not recommend doing business with them, they offered my a car with accident on
October 14 · Hameed JumaBEWARE! Expedia advertises rates as low $9/day. This is a bait-and-switch. On arrival at the branch to pick up the car, I was told that I'd need to pay another $27.43 for extraneous insurance. I was visiting from another country so had no choice but to pay as it was too late and too much of a hassle to try to book with another company. The following day I needed to extend the rental by 1 day and spent hours calling, trying to get through to a human. Extremely frustrating. I finally connected with an agent and they told me it would cost a whopping $65 per day to extend the rental (for a basic economy car). A total rip-off, but again, my back was against the wall so I paid up. I'm still waiting for the refund of the extraneous insurance. Companies like this deserve to go out of business.
