Yes, the staff could definitely be more professional, and their appearance doesn’t exactly scream "corporate rental agency," but they got the job done.They wanted me to just leave the car and said they'd email the receipt—which you should never do with a rental agency. I asked to wait while they checked in my car, and although the guy at the counter (yes, that guy everyone mentions and posts pictures of) seemed deeply annoyed to put his phone down, he did get up and process the return. I waited, got my confirmation, and was on my way. It was all fairly smooth—especially for 8 AM on a Monday, and I was in a surprisingly good mood, all things considered.One helpful tip: a previous review incorrectly states that the return entrance is through the hotel valet on Hope Street. That’s not correct. You actually enter on Flower Street, through the main parking entrance for the shopping center. Head down toward the shopping center valet—before reaching the valet gate, you’ll see about 20 Avis-marked stalls on the right. If those are full (as they were for me), go left through the gates, grab a parking ticket, and continue a bit further to the valet circle where the Avis counter is located. They’ll let you know where to park. There’s also a 15-minute grace period for the garage, so if you enter by mistake, you can exit without being charged.Overall, not a five-star operation—but also not the disaster I expected.
June 09 · Stephen LI love the ease and convenience of renting with Avis, i have been doing so nationwide for years now. However, of all the locations you can rent fromt, this AVIS DTLA location is the most predatory and unprofessional location that really soured my experience with AVIS as a whole.When i arrived at the location, Ray (their customer representative) had the most disassociated and arrogant attitude anyone could have. It was like pulling teeth just trying to get the car i had rented. BE AWARE that ray will try to tack on additional insurance coverage that can be waived and are not necessary. When i denied any additional coverages outside of the ones i had pre-selected, Ray insisted that he will not release the car to me unless i paid the additional charges (charges that were not necessary to pay). He spent ten minutes berating me about not wanting to pay for these fees and continuously threatened to not release the car unless i agreed to his additional fees. Finally, and at my wits end, i asked that he cancel my reservation on his behalf if he was not to provide the car rental. Staff member Ray escalates the situation and exclaims that he will not cancel the reservation on his side and that if i wanted the car reservation cancelled then i was to do it in the app.To anyone in similar situation: do NOT cancel the reservation in the app if you are being denied the rental as doing so will mean you incur charges for a late cancellation. Ray closed his window and insisted he would not let me rent the car i had reserved - not without first paying for more insurance coverage than required by Avis. Note that this is a scam employed by some at car rentals and all allegations made by Ray were not true.It was not until Ray found out i had been recording our conversation the entire time that he suddenly had a change of heart and issued the car to me. To any district/general manager of Avis, if you are truly inclined to make your customer service experience a better one, you would not hesitate to contact me for these videos so that you may properly reference, discipline, or even fire Ray. I am available and willing to share these horrendous videos of Ray’s berating and degrading demeanor.Terrible employee that really ruins the rental experience at this location.
March 14 · Marc SI’ve rented with Avis for years, and I’ve never had an issue, but this is by far the worst location. Everything that everyone else has said about this place is true. It’s dirty, the staff is careless, and it’s challenging to find the counter.Ultimately, I made a reservation and when I got there I was told there were no cars. I didn’t even know that was possible. The man at the front, I believe his name was Ray, didn’t care at all and had his whole breakfast out, and was very slow to help. He acted like we were interrupting and inconveniencing him, as if he’s not at work. Anyway, rent here at your own risk. Maybe you’ll have a better experience.
March 11 · Emily BAwful lazy and disrespectful staff, i’ve been renting with Avis for uber lots of times but this time it would be the last judging by the poor choices avis is making in people they are hiring. DTLA avis it’s just simply a place to avoid and this one it’s coming from somebody who worked years in the rent a car business. I was greeted there by a dude name Ray which had one of the most unprofessional attitudes, the booking was made for a regular gas car( according to avis they had it availabe) i was informed once i got there that the only available vehicles are the electric ones ( higher class), as a rent a car business you should honor your reservations or offer the next available upper class for the same price as the reserved one, leaving that behind I decide to go with the electric one(increasing my reservation price). Eventually, after signing the paperwork, I went to pick up the car where I was Greeted by another dude who had this big headphones covering his ears and simply ignoring My presence there. As soon as he woke him up from the trance That he was in he was rushing me to sign the damage report paper off the Car without actually Inspecting it, once I called Out that employee for that reason(Of course, I had to tell him that multiple times hence he still had his headphones over his ears all the time) he’s telling me super bored that it’s my duty to do that and he’s he handing me the damage report which was empty of any previous markings, eventually i ended up adding multiple already existing damages that i could’ve been charged for if i wasn’t paying attention ( the cars are parked in a lower level of a parking steucture so the lighting ain’t ideal which makes it harder to spit eventual damages. At the return i was greeted with the same lack of professionalism like my presence there would bother them and i’m letting them know that i’m here to return the car, they grab the key and they tell me that everything it’s alright and i can go ( so later on they can asset the condition of the car by themselves without having you around at the time of inspection) later on in the day i ended up with a 270$ charge on my card with no specification just an internal code that Avis has. I feel generous for giving you guys 1 star, keep it up like this working with this type of people and it’s just a matter of time till such a great international company like Avis will run out of business.

If you enter the mall parking, just go up and take a ticket and exit (they won't charge you) and then go back down and keep turning left once you hit the ground floor until you enter the valet area and that's where you return it.LA COUNTY NEEDS TO SHUT THIS LOCATION DOWN. Impossible to find, rude staff, and dirty inhumane conditions.
