Hertz Car Rental - Newark - Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For New Jersey travelers arriving at or departing from the Garden State, the ability to secure reliable transportation immediately upon arrival is crucial. Hertz Car Rental at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) provides a key service for both local residents and visitors, operating as a dedicated Car rental agency. Its presence at one of the busiest travel hubs in the region ensures that whether you are flying in for business, starting a family vacation, or need a temporary vehicle while yours is in the shop, a wide range of options is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The facility is located slightly off-site from the main terminals but is an integral part of the airport's infrastructure. Hertz at EWR aims to offer a smooth transition from your flight to the New Jersey roadways. While some customer experiences have noted challenges related to the walk from the airport train station and the need for clear guidance during the pick-up process, the agency's commitment to continuous on-site services and the provision of various payment and accessibility options makes it a significant and high-volume option for car rentals in the Newark area.
Location and Accessibility
The Hertz Car Rental location serving Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is physically located at:
132 Carson Rd, Newark, NJ 07114, USA
Although the physical address is separate from the terminal buildings, the location is strategically placed for airport customers. The entire rental car process is centralized at the consolidated Rental Car Center in the P3 parking garage, which is accessible via the Newark AirTrain. Travelers arriving at any of EWR's terminals are generally directed to take the AirTrain to the P3 Station, where major rental company counters, including Hertz, are situated.
It is important for New Jersey customers, particularly those traveling with significant luggage, mobility issues, or small children, to be aware that accessing the rental center involves transit, including a potential walk from the train station. However, the facility itself is designed to accommodate all users. The location highlights specific accessibility features to assist customers:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot
These features help ensure that the process of obtaining a rental vehicle is manageable for customers with diverse mobility needs, once they have navigated the initial transport from the terminal to the rental car center.

Features / Highlights
Beyond the standard services, the Hertz location at Newark Airport incorporates specific features and highlights that are beneficial to a broad segment of the New Jersey traveler market.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing Hertz Car Rental at Newark Liberty International Airport is best suited for the New Jersey traveler who values the convenience of an on-site airport location and the assurance of a major, national brand. The inclusive features, such as the wheelchair accessible infrastructure and the valuable active military discounts, demonstrate an effort to serve a wide and diverse customer base.
However, it is worth noting the importance of a meticulous pre-rental inspection. Some customer feedback suggests vigilance is required, including thoroughly checking the vehicle for existing damage—taking photos is highly recommended—and verifying the cleanliness of the interior upon pick-up. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It’s been years since I rented from Hertz and this experience suggests there will be a similar interval until the next time I’ll reconsider. Hertz can’t help that the walk from the airport train station is extremely long, which can be a huge problem for people with mobility issues, small children, or baggage to lug. The agent was curt and rude. After thanking her for saying bless you twice after sneezing twice, she said indignantly that it was polite to thank someone after saying bless you, which is not the way I believe customers should be treated. Perhaps she has compromised hearing. I was given hand waving instructions about getting a car without clarification that I was to get any of the cars in a certain area. The lack of Hertz employees in the car pick up area was not helpful in answering questions. Also lack of signage to clarify. The exit area was a bit confusing, going through some sort of scanner and then further along having to stop to provide documentation. Considerably more difficult and impersonal than it should have been.
June 20 · Bill ClevelandThe car rental was smelling like mold. The smell was making us sick. I have to take it to the car wash to be cleaned inside. And I bought all kinds of spray and scent trying to kill the smell. At the end I get rid of it. And then when I returned. They told me that I scratched a rim. And they charge me $150. For the supposedly damage. When before I took the car we took pictures all around the car and when I returned, I did the same.
April 17 · Mike GzHertz dropped the ball again! After emailing and texting me multiple to times beginning 7 days before my scheduled pick up date somehow you managed to not have my vehicle available. So instead of a smooth and seamless pick up / drive off experience I had to wait in line and request an alternate lesser vehicle from your agent. When I requested a smaller vehicle I was told it would cost an additional $50 per day, so I accepted the alternate vehicle. The alternate vehicle was a dated Nissan Armada with 58K miles on it. Upon departing from the airport, once I got on the highway and drove more than 30 MPH I immediately noticed a severely shaky front end and poorly balanced/aligned tires. This car was unsafe to drive and shook all the way on my 47 mile drive to the hotel where I was booked. Unfortunately by the time I got onto the highway it was too late and too distant to turn back around. Today I sought out a local Hertz agency and they swapped out my Armada for a Kia sedan, an even lesser vehicle. When I asked for a refund the agent indicated she was unable to do so but noted my account.I will be writing your executive leadership a very long and detailed letter illustrating all your failures from a very long term previously loyal customer.
October 03 · Adam WintersI am a Gold Hertz Club member. I received a text that my car was ready at 8:30pm. They had my flight info, knew it was delayed and they would keep it for up to 2 hours. When arrived (before the 2-hours) they didn’t not have a vehicle ready for myself or others who had also reserved as Gold Members. The employees were extremely rude and said they “could not provide a time estimate”.. I asked to speak to the manager because I needed to know if I should implement a Plan B. The manager told me “he just works here” he doesn’t know. I travel nearly every week for work. Hertz at Newark definitely has the worst experience for fulfilling vehicles reserved and customer service in general. I waited over 2-1/2 hours to receive a car that I was told (and I have the screenshots) was ready 3-1/2 hours earlier. I do not recommend due to staff unprofessionalism, not giving updates, and nobody, including manager, taking accountability. Also, this is not the first, second or third time with issues at Hertz Newark. If Hertz Corporate addresses this as I’ve requested of them, then I will take down this review.
October 10 · Dive Girl924I went from Turo (going down-hill) to Enterprise to now HERTZ! Rent about twice a month from Newark. Most of the time a smooth pick-up drop-off from Gold. Prices are always spot on - as long as you DO NOT DO ADDITIONAL ADD ONS! I have my own insurance (plus credit card travel insurance) and DO NOT USE PLATE PASS - rip offs. I would give a 4 star for some of the car issues and Plate Pass issues that Hertz refused to help with. However, Hertz is making a come-back and deserve more than a 1 star (consumer) or 2 star (yelp).
