When I went to Avis, they refused to give me a car because I paid in full with my debit card. It was paid in full for 2 weeks prior to my arrival. I have a debit/credit card that I use for everything. The airport was closing down and they refused my car and left me stranded at Rochester Airport. This was the WORST experience I’ve ever had with a car rental company. The counter person was rude and made no suggestions on how to help me. The Budget 800 customer service made no apologies and cancelled my reservation. They transferred me to another department to request a refund. The $950 refund will take 30 days. COMPLETE NIGHTMARE! My entire first day of vacation has been spent on the phone dealing with this.
September 14 · Erich WinklerI rented a car on Aug 29 2025 my birthday we was in town for a wedding we rented a car from budget the car smell like smoke which we find a wrapper of a black and mile under seat call a budget 1855 empire blvd Webster she advised me to go back to the airport but I had no time busy weekend when I returned the car explained to lady she say someone would be in touch that was on Sept 1 2025 to is Sept 5 2025 also this not the 1st time with budget with bad experience two is two many I will not rent again from budget Rochester airport never again. they say that not recognize of me calling lol then afford me $82 which the rental was $233.08 I will contact my credit card company please be aware of your rental with budget make sure they document ever call
September 05 · Bernard WhitesideI have rented from Budget 2 times prior to my last rental and have not had an issue. This time when i went to pick up my car, the 2 people in front of me got free upgrades because they oversold the car that they rented and paid for. When i get up there its the same story. The car i rented and prepaid for months ago, they did not have available, so the guy told me i will get a free upgrade. I originally rented a ford expedition, but got upgraded to a chevy suburban. When i opened the car door, i was immediately smacked in the face with a musty smell of body odor and weed. When i did my video walk around i documented multiple scratches and dings around the car. On the interior, there were blunt/cigarette burns on arm rest console and one of the back window buttons was messed up and wouldnt work half the time. Other than that the car was not terrible and in my opinion, definitely an upgrade, as it was much larger than the expedition. When i returned the car i took a video walk around of the exterior and interior, & pictures of the fuel gauge documenting that it was in the same condition as when i picked it up. About an hour later i get an email of the receipt andi see that they added on almost $300 for gas, when the tank was as full as it could get when i dropped it off. I know i am not the only person that this happened to, but how many customers have they done this too who didnt have pictures/videos/receipts to back it up? If i would of not had video/picture proof, there would of been no way to prove i did fill the gas tank. You cannot trust companies like this and you need to document EVERYTHING!!! In my opinion, it seems like they are throwing in extra charges to try to make back some of the loss they took from all of the "free" upgrades. I just cant understand how a company can just take the money you prepaid for a car and then when you pick it up they say that they dont have it? Whats even crazier is the guy i turned the keys into stood there waiting and watching me take videos and documenting the condition of the car during dropoff, than thought to themself, lets say the tank was empty upon dropoff. How about you stop allowing customers to rent a car if it will not be available when they request to pick it up?!! Shady business practice and i will no longer use them for rentals after this experience.
July 17 · Jake MillardI would never rent from or return to this Budget again. Upon returning a car at 4:30 pm there was no attendant so went inside to find someone. A sign at budget referred to the Avis desk. The Avis staff said to drop keys into the drop box without mentioning that the box is checked the following morning. Hence the surprise extra day charge this morning. Called customer service was handed off multiple times to only get a 30% refund. NEVER using this or any other Budget rental again. Seriously considering shifting my corporate Avis over to Hertz as well.
August 24 · Joe KlaiberExtremely Disappointed with Budget Car RentalI made a luxury car reservation over a month in advance to ensure I had an elegant vehicle to take my daughter to her prom. Budget advertised a non-SUV luxury car like a Genesis G70 or similar (2 or 4-door). Instead, when I arrived, they gave me a Volvo SUV that looked and felt nothing like a luxury vehicle — not inside or out.I clearly did not want an SUV, and I booked early to avoid exactly this situation. When I asked why they didn’t hold a luxury car for me, they simply said, “That’s all we have.” No apology, no solution, nothing.To make matters worse, the employee had an arrogant attitude, completely indifferent to the fact that customers were upset for not getting what they paid for. I wasn’t the only one — the person ahead of me was also frustrated.Terrible customer service. They don’t try to understand the customer’s perspective. We make plans based on what we reserve, and it’s unacceptable to be treated like this and given something totally different at the last minute.False advertising, poor service, and zero accountability. I will never rent from Budget again and do not recommend them to anyone.
