Hertz Car Rental - Sunnyvale - East El Camino Real Introduce
For residents and visitors in the heart of Silicon Valley, securing reliable and conveniently located transportation is essential. Hertz Car Rental - Sunnyvale - East El Camino Real, a well-established branch of the internationally recognized brand, serves the Sunnyvale, California, community with a range of vehicle options. Located in a central, neighborhood setting, this car rental agency aims to provide solutions for daily commutes, weekend getaways, and business-related travel within the Bay Area and beyond.
As a neighborhood location, this facility specializes in making car rental accessible for those who need a replacement vehicle, a quick upgrade for a special trip, or a commercial-grade van for larger tasks. The company’s long history in the rental market suggests a commitment to maintaining a comprehensive fleet and offering various rental programs to suit different customer needs. However, as noted in customer reviews, the actual experience at the local level can sometimes deviate from the brand's established expectations, particularly concerning vehicle availability and customer service execution.
Potential renters should be aware that, according to multiple recent reports from real users, issues have arisen regarding confirmed reservations not being honored due to lack of available vehicles, unexpected class downgrades (e.g., a mid-size sedan being substituted with a small hatchback), and a lack of proactive communication from the staff. Furthermore, some customers have reported feeling poorly treated and pressured into paying for upgrades to receive a vehicle comparable to their original reservation. It is strongly advised to call and confirm vehicle availability before arrival, even with a confirmed online reservation, to prevent frustration and delays.
The Sunnyvale branch is conveniently situated on a major artery of Silicon Valley, East El Camino Real. This prime location ensures easy access for customers traveling from surrounding cities like Santa Clara, Mountain View, and Cupertino. Its neighborhood placement makes it an excellent option for local residents who need a rental without the hassle of traveling to a major airport.
Address: 510 E El Camino Real Suite D, Sunnyvale, CA 94087, USA
As a modern service provider, the facility is equipped with essential features to ensure accessibility for all members of the community.
- Wheelchair Accessible Entrance: Ensures smooth entry and exit for customers with mobility needs.
- Wheelchair Accessible Parking Lot: Dedicated parking spots provide easy access from the vehicle to the office.
Furthermore, the business offers "Onsite services," which generally means the entire rental process—from key pickup to drop-off—is handled directly at the branch location, providing a focused, dedicated point of service.
Hertz in Sunnyvale operates as a full-service car rental agency, providing a wide array of vehicle classes to meet the diverse needs of the California consumer. The rental categories generally encompass everything from economical city cars to specialty vans.
The core services and typical vehicle offerings (subject to local fleet availability) often include:
- Economy and Compact Car Rentals: Fuel-efficient models ideal for short trips, budget-conscious travelers, or navigating crowded Silicon Valley streets.
- Mid-size and Full-size Sedan Rentals: Vehicles like the Chevrolet Malibu or similar, frequently reserved for business travel or longer, more comfortable drives throughout California.
- SUV and Minivan Rentals: A selection of SUVs and vans for families, groups, or those requiring extra space for luggage and gear for California road trips.
- Specialty Commercial Van Rentals: Specifically offering Cargo Van Rental services, which is a key differentiator for local businesses, small moves, or hauling bulky items.
- Luxury and Prestige Collections: At the broader brand level, Hertz offers high-end vehicles from the Prestige Collection for special occasions or executive needs (availability at this specific location should be confirmed).
- Electric Vehicle (EV) Options: In line with California’s environmental focus, certain locations within the Hertz network, including those in Silicon Valley, typically feature EV models from manufacturers like Kia or Polestar, or similar electric crossovers and sedans.
- Standard Payment Flexibility: Accepting major forms of payment to streamline the check-out process.
This Hertz location distinguishes itself through specific features and corporate programs that provide value and convenience to particular customer groups.
Key features and highlights include:
- Active Military Discounts: A significant highlight is the availability of discounts for active military personnel. This commitment offers financial savings and special benefits to those who serve. Customers are often required to use a specific corporate discount program (CDP) number and present proper identification.
- Multiple Payment Options: Catering to modern payment preferences with acceptance of:
- Credit cards
- Debit cards
- NFC mobile payments
- Commercial Vehicle Availability: The provision of Cargo Van Rental is a critical service highlight, serving the needs of small businesses and residential customers requiring commercial-grade hauling capacity.
- Global Network Benefits: As part of the extensive Hertz network, customers may benefit from programs like the Gold Plus Rewards for faster service and accrual of points, though local execution remains paramount.
For all reservation inquiries, vehicle availability checks, and customer service needs, please use the following direct contact information for the Sunnyvale branch. Given the reported issues with reservation confirmation, a direct call is highly recommended before traveling to the location.

For users in the California region, choosing Hertz Car Rental in Sunnyvale can be particularly beneficial for specific needs. The most compelling reasons to select this location are its capacity to offer Cargo Van Rentals and its commitment to providing Active Military Discounts. The Cargo Van option is invaluable for residents needing to move furniture or transport business inventory, a service not offered by all neighborhood agencies. The military discount program is a tangible benefit for service members, offering significant savings on leisure travel. Additionally, its central location on East El Camino Real provides high convenience compared to renting solely at major airports like SJC or SFO.
However, the critical factor for prospective renters to consider is the reported inconsistency in service. The detailed customer reviews paint a clear picture of operational challenges, including failure to provide reserved vehicle classes, last-minute cancellations without notice, and an unprofessional attitude from certain staff members at both the local branch and partner airport locations. The necessity of making multiple trips and being advised to pay for an "upgrade" to secure a reserved vehicle highlights a significant flaw in their reservation management system.
Therefore, while the Hertz brand and its offerings—especially the cargo vans and military benefits—are strong attractions, local users must approach their rental with caution and a contingency plan. We strongly advise that customers take the following steps:
- Confirm Availability: Call the branch (408) 524-8700 on the day of pick-up to verbally confirm the reserved vehicle class is physically on site.
- Document Everything: Keep all confirmation emails and note the name of any staff member who provides assistance or makes promises regarding vehicle availability.
- Set Realistic Expectations: Be prepared for a potential substitution or a need to visit an alternative location, as the reviews suggest this is a recurring issue.
By proactively managing the risk of service inconsistency, customers can still access the valuable fleet options and discounts that make Hertz a choice worth considering in the competitive Silicon Valley rental market.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The guy working there was beyond rude from the moment we walked through the door. They didn't have the car we reserved (or a replacement) and he was extremely upset with us (!) for it. I don't know what his deal is, but I would strongly recommend staying away from this Hertz location.
October 17 · Leonid RyzhykI made a reservation for a mid-size sedan on the Hertz website a week in advance, with a scheduled pickup at 2:00 PM. When I arrived on time, I was told there were no cars available and to come back later. I left my number as instructed, but never received a call back. By 4:30 PM (just before their 5:00 PM closing), I had to call them myself — had I not followed up, would I have just been left without a car despite having a confirmed reservation? When I returned, I was given a Kia Soul, a small hatchback, and was told it’s the “same class” as a mid-size sedan. This is misleading — I specifically reserved a sedan for space and comfort reasons. If there’s no guarantee of getting a sedan, why advertise it as an option on the website? To make it worse, when I asked for an actual sedan, I was told I could pay extra for a full-size upgrade — even though the lack of proper car and delay was not my fault. The staff did offer to let me return the next day to exchange for a sedan. On Day 2, I returned, only to be told again that no cars were available. That’s the third time I had to go to this location. I was then advised to go to San Jose International Airport (SJC) where they supposedly had more cars. When I got to SJC, the front desk staff was unfriendly and dismissive, saying again that no mid-size sedans were available, and the only option was to pay for an upgrade. This entire process was frustrating, time-consuming, and completely unprofessional. I never got the vehicle I reserved, was treated poorly at multiple locations, and was made to feel like the inconvenience was my fault. On top of that, the Kia Soul they gave me was too small for my luggage, which made my trip even more difficult.I expected more from Hertz — this experience was extremely disappointing and has made me reconsider renting from them again.
June 17 · Chan Keith4 hours after picking up the car, the car had an electric vehicle system problem. Had to wait 5 hours just to wait for towing to come. Got towed to Hertz San Jose and the office was closed. Was left in the middle of nowhere in an industrial zone at almost 11pm in the evening. We were then told to pay for own Lyft to SFO in order to get an exchange car. Like are you serious??? My whole day's rent got wasted and I couldn't even get dinner cause you told me the estimated time for towing was 61min instead of the actual 5 hours and now I'm freezing and starving in the middle of nowhere. Unbelievable. Successfully wasted a whole day's worth of time, rent, insurance and all other fees.
July 18 · huang leoI was truly surprised how rude the representative was in this location. He was telling us to wait without any estimate , saying that even if a car arrives he will take time to do a service himself, that he did not have LUNCH yesterday, and he is all alone. I do sympathize his issues but we really needed a car and he was not helping at all. Well, we drove a 3 mintues and rent a car form a different provider. The representative name is Hue.
October 17 · Nina NarodytskaHorrible customer experience. The manager told me that I can't return the car because it was PREPAID!And it is my fault that I paid for the car ahead.I have had previously successful examples of moving rent from one location to another. Here they didn't even move a finger!Avoid this location at all cost if you would like to be treated with basic respect
