Hertz Introduce
For residents and visitors of the Twin Cities metro area, securing reliable transportation is often essential, whether for business travel, a weekend getaway exploring Minnesota’s natural beauty, or simply needing a temporary replacement vehicle. The Hertz Car Rental agency stands as one of the leading options in the St. Paul area, known globally for its extensive fleet and decades of experience in the rental industry. Located strategically in the heart of the region, this specific facility serves as a key access point for those looking to rent everything from a compact car for city driving to a spacious SUV or a specialty vehicle.
Hertz, as a car rental agency, typically provides a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet diverse customer needs. The core offering revolves around providing clean, well-maintained vehicles for varying durations. While the brand is widely recognized, local users should note that the experience can often be influenced by the specific location, particularly those situated near major transportation hubs like the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). This location is known for handling a high volume of traffic, catering to both incoming travelers and local clientele from St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs.
A key focus for this location is to ensure a flexible and convenient rental experience. The agency accepts multiple payment methods, including major credit cards, debit cards, and modern NFC mobile payments, providing options for most users. Furthermore, Hertz is dedicated to accessibility, a critical feature for the entire community.
The Hertz Car Rental facility addressed here is located at 4300 Humphrey Dr, St Paul, MN 55111, USA. This address places the agency adjacent to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), specifically near the area historically associated with the airport’s Terminal 2, often referred to as the Humphrey Terminal. This positioning is exceptionally convenient for travelers arriving via this terminal, though proximity can sometimes mean dealing with a fast-paced airport environment.
Accessibility features at this location are a notable positive, demonstrating a commitment to serving all members of the Minnesota community. The facility provides both a wheelchair accessible entrance and a wheelchair accessible parking lot, ensuring that patrons with mobility considerations can navigate the premises comfortably and safely. However, local renters should be prepared for the general traffic flow typical of a large airport area when planning their pick-up or drop-off.
For those living in St. Paul, Mendota Heights, or Eagan, the location is easily reachable via major regional highways. The immediate airport vicinity necessitates navigating structured ramps and signage, but the advantage is a central position in the metro area, perfect for launching trips north to the Duluth area, west across the state, or south towards Rochester.
The core business is the short-term and long-term rental of diverse vehicles, but the agency provides several accompanying services to facilitate the rental process:
- Onsite Services: Providing dedicated assistance and operational support directly at the rental counter, including reservation processing, vehicle key handover, and return inspections.
- Diverse Vehicle Fleet: Access to a wide range of vehicle classes, which typically includes economy and compact cars, mid-size sedans, various SUVs for Minnesota’s changing seasons and family trips, vans for group travel or larger cargo, and specialized vehicles like luxury cars and convertibles, depending on availability. The fleet also features Electric Vehicles (EVs) for an eco-friendly option.
- Payment Flexibility: Acceptance of multiple payment types including Credit cards, Debit cards, and NFC mobile payments for convenience.
- Add-on Options: Standard offerings often include essential extras like GPS navigation systems to assist with travel outside the familiar Twin Cities area, as well as child safety seats for younger passengers. Roadside assistance coverage is also a common offering for peace of mind.
- Reservation Management: The ability to modify, extend, or cancel existing reservations, though users should be aware of any potential fees or policy restrictions, especially concerning prepaid bookings.
Beyond the standard offerings, this Hertz location, like others in the network, provides specific benefits and operational features that stand out:
- Active Military Discounts: A significant highlight is the availability of discounts for active military personnel and their families. This is a valuable feature for service members in Minnesota, often providing substantial savings on base leisure rates when using the appropriate discount code or booking through a program like USAA.
- Accessibility Compliance: As noted, the availability of a Wheelchair accessible entrance and Wheelchair accessible parking lot ensures a broader segment of the community can access rental services without undue difficulty.
- Credit and Debit Card Acceptance: The ability to use both credit and debit cards provides greater financial flexibility for renters. However, customers should be aware that when using a debit card, the agency typically requires a credit check and will place an authorization hold on the card, which can be up to $500 or more, depending on the rental specifics. These funds are temporarily unavailable to the renter.
- Hertz Gold Plus Rewards: Although not explicitly stated for this address, airport-adjacent locations often facilitate benefits for members of the Gold Plus Rewards program, such as expedited service, which can be crucial in a busy airport setting.
- Reputation of Fleet Quality: Hertz maintains a reputation for providing late-model vehicles, ensuring that renters are driving cars with modern safety features and lower mileage.
For direct inquiries, including questions about reservations, specific vehicle availability, or policy details, local users can reach the agency using the following information:
- Address: 4300 Humphrey Dr, St Paul, MN 55111, USA
- Phone: (651) 695-3300
- Mobile Phone: +1 651-695-3300
Deciding whether Hertz is the right choice often comes down to weighing their comprehensive offerings against reported customer experiences. The company provides a strong foundation for reliable car rental, especially for Minnesotans and visitors valuing choice and specialized benefits. The availability of Active military discounts and the clear commitment to accessibility features make it a prime choice for specific demographics who can utilize these benefits. Furthermore, the extensive, well-maintained fleet—ranging from economical compacts to larger SUVs ideal for Minnesota roads—ensures that most travel needs can be met from this central St. Paul location.
However, it is crucial for potential renters to be fully informed about the potential pitfalls, especially concerning the airport environment. Customer feedback has highlighted significant issues, particularly regarding service consistency and operational efficiency. Reports mention experiencing exceptionally long wait times and difficulties with the debit card authorization hold process, where a significant amount, such as $500, is held on funds and can lead to refusal of rental if additional conditions are not met. Renters using a debit card are strongly advised to confirm the exact hold amount and secondary documentation requirements *before* arrival to avoid frustrating delays and complications.
Furthermore, one highly relevant piece of feedback is the perceived difference in service levels between airport terminals. The note that the service at Terminal 2 may adhere to Hertz Local Edition (HLE) standards but is billed at higher airport rates suggests that certain premium services associated with main airport counters (like President's Circle or 5-Star expedited lanes) might not be fully operational or available at this specific location. HLE locations are typically neighborhood branches that offer customer pickup and are geared toward insurance replacement or local leisure use, not the high-speed service expected at a major airport counter.
Ultimately, Hertz at 4300 Humphrey Dr offers the reliability of a major national brand and a diverse fleet necessary for navigating the Twin Cities and beyond. Those who benefit most are individuals who can leverage the military discount or require accessible features. To ensure a smooth experience, local users should consider booking well in advance, utilizing the online check-in process if available, and calling ahead to confirm all debit card and ID requirements, particularly if arriving after normal business hours or at the potentially less-staffed Terminal 2 facility.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Hertz is the most disgusting company I’ve ever encountered. My first encounter was with my friends in Hawaii where we waited in the longest line that didn’t move for almost an hour. Thankfully my friend who made the reservation is anal and made a secondary reservation so we were saved by Enterprise. My friend has boycotted Hertz ever since. This time, I ended up with Hertz due to booking with Priceline. Biggest mistake of my trip. After getting in after two flights, I had to take a bus to terminal one since the light rail was down. Then I had to take the escalator all the way to 4th floor since they were closing the first floor counter. They refused to rent to me after putting a $500 hold on my debit card (and then wanted even more money). I have never heard of such a scam. Now I’m trying to get my money back from Priceline. I already puke every time I see a Hertz commercial with Tom Brady but now I know I’ll NEVER EVER rent with Hertz and will make sure everyone I know never gives Hertz any money.
September 30 · SteveCar was the usual Hertz rental (good). Be advised, the 5-star and President's Circle are not available at Terminal 2, along with less than friendly/professional service. You pay airport car rental rates at Terminal 2, but get Hertz Local Edition (HLE) Standards of service.First time renting at Terminal 2. So disappointed. I'll take the train over to Terminal 1 next time.
June 29 · Tim LuikartNews flash: Hertz customer service is still very bad, All across the country. Aside from myself, I saw two other customers become very irate in the 20 minute span we were waiting in line. Hertz apparently has some kind of class or caste system where if you wait in line for 20 minutes at the gold counter but you are not a gold member, then they send you to the main line to wait even longer.
August 31 · Steve ObeyWow, just wow. Worst experience ever. I made a reservation months in advance. Hertz sent me an email to check-in online before my flight, which I tried to do, but the process would not complete. So, we land at 430, make it to the hertz counter by 455 and the line is super long and THEY ONLY HAVE 1 PERSON WORKING! He was very nice and patient. I noticed a different hertz sign pointing a different way, so my wife stood in line while I checked it out. Followed the signs to the in garage checkout counter, there was nobody in line here. I asked the "lady" behind the counter and she said she couldn't help me because it's for gold members only. I said there's nobody here and the other line is eternity long. TOO Bad. Then I said, well I'll just sign up to be a gold member then, and she said first time gold members have to go to the main counter. So we waited in line until shift change at 6 pm, then the nice employee escorted the entire line up to the Gold member only booth! The lady there promptly got up and left, leaving only one employee left to service everyone. We waited for another 30 minutes, only to find out after checkout that none of the cars are at this location, they'll have to have someone from another location drive them over for all 20+ reservations that have already been waiting for almost 2 hours! The 3rd employee who ended up checking in most of the line, was super rude to everyone, forcing those who already paid to wait outside in the heat, including a 79 year old man with cancer. As I'm writing this the whole line had now checked out and paid, but we are still waiting for our cars! Over 2 hours now. Never again hertz! So much for our dinner plans.
June 22 · Cody BainSlow. No cars. (Had a reservation) in this day with all the tech there is no reason for any of this. You know exactly how many reservations there are. Had to go to multiple desks multiple terminals. This was embarrassing for them.
