When considering non-emergency medical transportation in the Rochester, NY region, the choice often comes down to specialized capability versus general convenience. Rochester Medical Transportation is worth choosing primarily because of its fundamental and necessary specialization: it is a dedicated Handicapped Transportation Service. Standard car rentals or general taxis cannot provide the proper securement, trained assistance, or accessible vehicle type required for non-ambulatory clients, making RMT an essential service for wheelchair and stretcher transport.
However, potential users, particularly those paying out-of-pocket for private trips, must consider the reported customer experience regarding scheduling and punctuality. The reviews highlight a pattern of significant wait times for post-appointment pick-up and safety concerns related to vehicle securement and driving behavior. For any specialized service in New York, timely and safe delivery is non-negotiable, especially when dealing with elderly or sick loved ones. The documented instances of a 45-minute to 1 hour and 45-minute wait time are serious issues that local users should weigh against the specialized necessity of the service.
When choosing Rochester Medical Transportation, users are opting for a medically-focused vehicle and staff, which is a major benefit for complex transport needs. To mitigate potential frustration, clients are strongly advised to proactively confirm pickup times, inquire about real-time communication protocols, and verify driver credentials and safety procedures upon pickup. Because the service itself is classified as essential (Ambulance Service is also a type listed), the critical role it fills in the healthcare ecosystem for non-ambulatory New Yorkers is undeniable. Users should proceed by demanding the high professional standard that a medical transportation provider is expected to uphold. This means utilizing their dedicated services when necessary, while maintaining vigilant communication to ensure both safety and appropriate punctuality.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1SERIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED !!!Currently waiting over an hour from the time the appointment ended to still waiting for a wheelchair van back to the Nursing Home. I called 3 times, the Nursing Home has called and for an out of pocket fee that we pay to wait this long is inappropriate on so many levels. The dispatch office answered the phone once & lets the rest go to voicemail ( why ? ) how would they like their sick & elderly loved ones to be left in limbo? How about doing unto others & communication !!!Great job Tony Cowerton ( NOT )I HAD TO ASK THE DRIVER TO PULL OVER & SEATBELT THE WHEELCHAIR IN FOR SAFETY OMG !!! No explanation on this incompetence of behavior. This is crazy 5/21/25 @ 3:22pmSpeeding like a crazy person in a pouring down rain storm
May 21 · Cathy AllisonDo rely on them picking you up on time from your appointment, on average I have a 45 minute wait time. My record is a 1 hr. 45 min. wait for pickup
May 23 · YetihitmanCalled to report a drive and dispatch said it was a supervisor. To me it does not matter who you are when you drive a bus you are held to a higher standard. She almost hit me cause she couldn't stay in her lane, driving almost 80 mph on route 104, no turn signal to cross over 2 lane on a 3 lane highway. This is unacceptable along with the response of the dispatcher.
March 24 · Rory WilkinsIt feels like this company overbooks rides with no care to the medically disabled people the wait times are really bad. The people in the office will down talk you that YOU are on Medicaid.while their business would close down if Medicaid did not pay for the rides. In my opion I truly believe that calls to elder abuse would be the best thing for this company to leave a medically disabled person waiting for hours should not be acceptable by any decent human being. The reps that answer the phone can care less they act as if it’s your fault and you are bothering them.i also feel Medicaid should fine them for every late pick up after an hour should be a free of charge ride.overbooking would stop real quick.
January 24 · Esther PappIt's a terrible transportation service. Ruining your medical appointments and then being HOURS late (sometimes over 3 hrs!) to pickup up patients from there is just their "normal" way to function. And when you call them in despair they don't seem even to understand what is wrong. Never heard a word of apologies. Also when they are terribly behind they send awful vehicles that don't meet a bit any requirements even for horses, not to say for elderly medical patients. Will sure change the company.
